Windows rot is a meme, but a fresh install is the best placebo.

My go to placebo solution is:
Malwarebytes scan
Clean up autorun, uninstall redundant programs through control panel
Use some kind of registry, cache and temp folder cleaning utility. They're all proprietary adware, but you only have to use it once in a couple of months. I personally use wise registry.
Defrag.

Windows fucked up when they let everyone and their dog provide installation wizards for their software, windows rot is largely the result of software having the privilege of installing adware, putting themselves into autostart and doing other shady shit willy nilly.

That said, been using the same W7 install for 7 years with no issues until a HDD failure.

Of course i will never do another way for my stuff but the thing is some wintards around me want a functional computer and I don't want to go into normieweb to find the right peace of software between all the bloatwares.

Note : Was using ccleaner years ago, but it has gone payware.

It also helps to manually search through the registry and delete entries if you have programs with broken registries clogging up the "programs" list in control panel. Sometimes programs fuck up their own registry and you can't even uninstall them, just delete the files.

Registry cleaning doesn't actually improve performance, but it's fucking annoying seeing deleted software icons and shit in your panels.

Take out old wood. Gather mesurments via tape measure or 6ft ruler. Pick out treated wood from lows or home depo. Buy a table saw or handheld, get some nice deck screws. Cut wood to length and install. Nail/seal with wood glue or silicone type substance. Prime and paint desired color. Can be done in different ways. Sometimes you got to get creative
