Asking again since I didn't get an answer last time:

I've read online that the Bose QuietComfort 25 leak a lot of sound to the outside world... How bad is it, really?
I really want good sound-isolating headphones, but I don't want anyone else to hear my shitty anime music and think I'm a pedophile or something.

The latter have far better isolation, but worse sound (more bass-centric, less flat midrange). They do regardless sound very good (I do own them)

Nopes, but they do have really good noise isolation, which is what matters regarding leaking.
As for outside noises disturbing your listening, with the HD380 Pro, listening via fulla 2 at 8 o'clock volume (pretty much the minimum), I couldn't hear the fire alarm at the office, a workmate had to tap my shoulder for me to notice. That's good good.
And re: ANC, my brief experience with somebody's bose QC35 was instant headache + nausea + almost vomiting. Can't say I am a fan.

In any case, you don't seem to understand what kind of noise air/train travel generates. It's not enough to block out the crowds of fat moms and screaming children, you also have to contend with the ever-present awful engine noise.
Also, these Sennheiser recs look absolutely ridiculously large. I don't want to look like a tool.

>But that's pleasant? Do you hate trains or something? People are THE annoyance.
they are, but you can't actually enjoy music with a constant BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT of the engines or the gooddamn screeching of the train tracks. Blocking out humans is a huge plus, but it's pointless if you still can't hear shit without turning up the volume to 50%+. In other words, a "general" noise-reducing pair of headsphones that does a decent job at canceling out humans and engines is good, but ANC that does a superb job at canceling engines but only a "subpar" job at cancelling human noises is better.
Have you ever even been in an airplane in your short underage life? I begin to suspect you're only recommending these HD380 because they are the first and only headphones you ever bought, and you're moderately satisfied with them.

>I begin to suspect you're only recommending these HD380 because they are the first and only headphones you ever bought, and you're moderately satisfied with them.
I also own HD600. I'm actually quite satisfied with those.
>you can't actually enjoy music with a constant BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT of the engines or the gooddamn screeching of the train tracks.
Never been annoyed by train sounds, only people talking and being annoying in general. As for music, I've enjoyed music on somewhat long (~6h) train trips before, with mere earbuds (not even IEMs).
As for the HD380, I've enjoyed them with actual loud and annoying construction work going on. Even with music at low volume, the outside sounds do effectively disappear.

I'm planning on getting a portable amp/dac to be used with my headphones and my mac book. I'm debating if I should get the Oppo H2SE or the Chord Mojo.

I know the Mojo is nearly $200 more and will require an apple camera kit but if it's significantly better than the oppo I can wait a bit longer and get the mojo instead.

Uh no, they are not. They're fucking dongles, which means unless you've got some usb extension cable, it's attached directly to the laptop, protruding and annoying if you are trying to use a mouse or something else on that side of the laptop.
>>
>>62448727
I know it's crazy expensive but this is a reenlistment gift to myself so I want to get something nice, not $1000 nice but $500 nice.

>>62448756
My only thing with the Chord is you need the apple camera kit and looks like other sorts of cables. I don't want to have to spend another $150 just buying cables and adapters.

I'm really liking the look of the RHA L1 but I'm going to have to do more research on it
>>
>>62448789
>They're fucking dongles, which means unless you've got some usb extension cable
relax. I prefer those and I'm sure it depends on preference. Having multiple devices and wires everywhere is a pain for me for travel and I would rather just use a dongle
>>

Ok, fair enough. I'm the opposite, I drag my fulla 2 along and it's bliss to have it as something more "separate".

>>
>>62448863
I'd say $500 is insane for a portable DAC (which will no doubt get abused), and that $99 fulla2 is more than enough (as in audibly transparent) for that sort of use, but what do I know.

The fulla2 has a separate usb port that's just for power, so it can be powered by a phone charger, your laptop or whatever, while using the main port with a OTG or newfag cable on the phone as DAC.
I do use mine to play deresute and such at work, but I just use the line in. Power does of course come from the laptop.
>>
>>62449205
>The chip in the fulla 2 costs the same
the same applies to the fulla 2 and all the other budget dacs being overpriced memes. Do you have a noisy system or your noise floor isn't low enough? No? Then the only reason you need a fulla 2 is for the power, which you can get with amps

It needs to be manually optimized because C code lends to more undefined behavior which makes it hard for the compiler to do optimizations. It's specifically the reason distro's never use -O3, things crash far too often.

All code needs to be manually optimized, but if you've ever written assembly you know that manually optimizing assembly is very different from optimizing a high level language like C.
>why are a lot of things in enterprise programmed in java over python?
Because it's easy. A lot of enterprise software is terrible. Take it from someone who works with it almost every day.
>>
>>62449400
>It sounds better even if I make the laptop's output louder
that's an amp related issue, not dac. If it's noisy or has a high noise floor then it's a dac problem, or other problems like groundloop
>>62449500
>I'm still waiting for you to back that up.
lmao. You made the claim that C is "very fast code". Faster than what? interpreted or JIT languages? the only comparison you should be making is C vs other system languages. >>
>>62449589
a clipping amp / underpowered amp is going to sound worse than a lineout from a dac which is fixed. that being said the argument is pointless anyways, a shitty dac is a shitty dac and it can happen. good motherboards do just fine and just because your laptop had a shit dac doesn't mean all laptops, and all motherboards, have shit dacs

>lmao. You made the claim that C is "very fast code". Faster than what? interpreted or JIT languages? the only comparison you should be making is C vs other system languages. So prove to me that C is faster than other low level languages (C++, rust, etc). go fuck yourself if you're going to tell me disprove something you haven't proved yourself.
I'm drunk now and not willing to go through a whole lot of effort to prove you wrong, but I've made comparisons between different C compilers and a few different languages.
GCC with optimization won by far when it comes to speed, TCC won at size, CLANG was mediocre at both.
All other languages were worse at both, the ones i tested include C++, D, python and more.
I'd probably prefer to write my code in D just in general, but C is faster. even when D uses C functions.
I've never used Rust, but if it has native UTF-8 support it's by definition slower than C at handling ASCII text.

Correct. And yet, with a fulla2's DAC, I don't have to give a fuck about that. That's the point.
>>
>>62449640
>I've never used Rust, but if it has native UTF-8 support it's by definition slower than C at handling ASCII text.
that's a stupid distinction to make, considering rust is designed for safe multithreading and has the ability to easily make multithreaded code which will be quicker and safer C, but you're concerned about ascii text

and then you compare C benchmarks to D and python which are obviously languages not designed with pure speed in mind. these are meaningless comparisons

I'm done arguing programming, we are shitting up this thread

Depends on the model, AD900x is recommended from time to time, usually when people want large stage on and easy to drive headphone, the original AD700 is a classic, many also like the M40X.
M50 used to be very popular here back in the day, we actually had a Lot of V6 vs M50 shitposting too.
With the M50X it lost popularity on the /hpg/ due to being far to expensive for the sound delivered.

Fakes of HD598 do exist. They're poorly made. Usually in fakes the headband is attached with a single screw rather than 2, they break easily and ofc the sound is shit. Did read an article back in the day about the fakes.
If you can afford it, it's best if you go HD579 instead, which is basically identical to HD599 and an improvement over HD598. Else, for HD598, just get HD598se/sr from amazon. These are amazon-exclusive versions, black instead of beige, otherwise identical.

Is there any other indicator besides dbSPL to know if a certain amplifer is good or not for a certain pair of headphones?

For instance the E10K is capable of 111.5dbSPL on the HD650. Is that good or are there any other numbers that I should be looking at?
>>

>>62461974
Get something that can't be faked.
>>
>>62461971
The e10k is known to distort and be generally shitty. Get a fulla 2 if you can at all afford it.
>111.5db SPL
That seems a little too high an estimate for a e10k on that load, where did you get that from?
Anyway, if you're looking at effective max SPL with an amp for shopping amps, you probably want to buy something that can reach 115dB. See: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-power.html
Other than that, re: your question, you should be looking at output impedance. It should be smaller than 1/10th of the impedance of the actual load (the headphones). When it's not, it might affect frequency response, as depending on the headphone, the impedance can vary a lot throughout frequency. The HD598 is infamous in that sense, since it has a massive peak (think 7 times) somewhere in impedance vs frequency.
>HD650
The fulla 2 can handle it but only as long as you don't go near max volume; it'll distort there due to lack of power. Do not even think about e10k for that one, as that's way weaker than the fulla 2.
For a HD650, it's worth considering the magni 2. A popular option is to get the fulla2 and upgrade at some point by attaching a magni2 via the preamp aux output of the fulla2. Some anons that hang around here have such a setup.

I see. Well, the max output of an amp generally depends on the impedance of the load, and the *how* it behaves vs impedance depends on the actual amp. It can't be estimated from one value, but you generally need a table to interpolate from.
Here's one for the e10.
Another similar result based on using 32ohm output to approximate. Unfortunately, no other values to interpolate from. I'm sure it doesn't output anywhere near that much power to a 300ohm load.
>where can I see measurements
https://www.headfonia.com/fiio-e10k-classic-reborn/2/
It's not flat, regardless of bass boost on or off. Some anons here own the e10k and other amps such as the magni2 and fulla2, and have reported the e10k does just sound bad compared to these.

One time this happened to a cheapo set of computer speakers I had. I fixed it by splicing the connector from an aux cable I had onto the wire. I just stripped the wire and twisted the wires onto each other and used electrical tape to seal it all up. Looked terrible but it kept the speakers going for about a year.

I had a pair of HD 280s that I threw away after 3 years of use because the earpads got so nasty and torn up that I didn't want people to even see them sitting on my computer, much less take them out in public. Only found out today that you can buy replacement earpads. Lmao I'm a dummy.

Just ordered a pair of HD 558s, my first pair of open back headphones. Reviews look great and I'm not a musician or anything so it looks like a good value for the price ($96 with free shipping).

Not exaaaactly a headphone related question, but you guys seem to know audio shit. What would be the best way of connecting speakers with stripped cables to a pc's 3.5mm port? I'm guessing I need an amp of some sort? What would be a good choice considering the speakers are fairly large, but not really top quality?

DAC-X6 is about the one choice you get, if you want to go that cheap on a dac+amp and still drive HD600 well.
That device's flaw is its high output impedance, but it's many times as low as necessary for the high impedance HD600.

For 200 more you can have an Aeon that have both bass and are neutral, also closed comfy and light playnars. I feel like I am an unpaid shill for them but they look so nice and their FR looks smooth but with bass, didn't listen to them have HD600 WANT to try Aeon. Otherwise HD600/650 are a good choice, you will finally hear vocals with them after X2, try to find a store to hear both of them but as a warning after X2 you might want to EQ down 3K bump by 1-2 db in case it's too forward for you.

Different anon.

i just checked the frequency graph for these out of curiosity. Went to check the 569, 599 and other 5XXs too and it made me realize something. Did Sennheiser simply abandon the 600s/650s sound signature? Ignoring the more bassy and cheaper cans like the 518, all of these higher priced mid range have some treble peaks (some more pronounced, others barely) and as you go along the range line the treble peaks start to go higher like the hd700 and hd800

This makes me wonder if the 600s and 650s will forever remain without any further evolution in their sound. They're very good for sure but sennheiser haven't tried improving them at all and instead opted to go for the more brighter sound. I've only seen the AT R70x trying to compete with the HD650s
>>
>>62469049
Never heard the M6, jumped on these because the sound signature is dark and I'm loving them so far.
The bass is easily the best I've heard on IEMs, although I haven't tried many super expensive models (MA750, Momentum 2 IE)
Easily my favorites, but I'm not sure if they're worth 100 extra over the M6 unless you're specifically looking for a dark signature
>>
>>62469811
Do you feel they're too bright or an actual improvement or something else? Did they completely replace the M50s for you or do you miss the bass for more fun stuff like electronic music, movies, games or whatever
