They have a much more powerful transmitter in them (regular ones are limited by law so you don't shit up the spectrum).

You can put a signal much, MUCH further away, with a directional antenna to boost your gain, you can 'see' wap's from much further away too.

Best I've done with one of these was connect to a router 3km away through a concrete wall (rebar eats signal like crazy) and a few trees.

I've seen the FCC try to triangulate signals to shut them down. One guy was really crafty about it, and would make their cover and shut off his equipment before the could locate it, went on that way for weeks before they finally found him and shut it down. Not sure if he got in any trouble though.

Juss joshin broham. Yeah i knew a guy that had an amplified antenna on his roof for the wifis, and the FCC came to "chat" with him about it. Just told him to take it down no biggie. Theyre srs about that kinda stuff, i guess if youre just playing ariund they wont hit ya with shit, nothing like signal jamming. Dont think 2w jammys would matter too much.
