Is this the silk road dude?

It's unconscionable. How do they live knowing they ruined an innocent life?

He deserved it. Also he tried to order a hit on someone. That's not cool.

>two life sentences for creating a black market for substances that are illegal in the country he resides. He also could have maybe ordered the assassination of various individuals. Maybe.

I don't agree with it and honestly find it sickening, but at least be factual for what he was put in jail for.
>>
>>62421612

yeah, he posted his personal Gmail account when he advertised his new site (silk road) back in the day kek
>>

he was threatening to leak all his info online, there was a lot at stake then

No evidence for the case except the website. He facilitated with the website and it became popular. Nothing more. Yet he gets two life sentences. Absurd.
>>
>>62421598
Since the only 'acceptable' means of prejudice theses days is of sexual aesthetic.. I say GUILTY! GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!
>>
>>62421598
lmao that dude is 100% getting railed every day by bbc in prison
>>
>>62421709
>He facilitated with the website and it became popular. Nothing more. Yet he gets two life sentences. Absurd.

He was a party to a crime, if this is your argument then he is essentially like a 'look out' for a break in. He knew that a crime was being committed and he profited from this action be that directly or indirectly.
>>
>>62421716
He's in a supermax so no he isn't
>>

Google is party to and actively facilitates crimes every day. Yet their lawyers argues they are just an indexer of crime. Billion dollar company. Sorry, Billions.

I don't see how his service was so good that it was all that worth going to prison for.

People in my area sell drugs through fucking whatsapp and telegram groups, and nobody catches them.
>>
>>62421846
The only service he had was a platform for people to sell illicit things. He didn't really do anything illegal himself.
>>
>>62421829
Manning was given an exorbitant sentence in order "send a message" to other potential leakers. They did nothing wrong. Also he/she is becoming a pretty good trap.

Google takes steps to remove and prevent the facilitation of a crime. They also dutifully comply with all legal requests for information. Google is a party to a crime everyday but they acknowledge this and meet their obligations under law to comply with all lawful requests for information.

Ross Ulbricht in my country would need to at the minimum create reasonable doubt that he was not aware of what was on the website and create reasonable doubt that he did not profit directly or indirectly from the managing the website. Reasonable doubt could be that codes were used to describe the items sold that were non-descriptive based on his access to the website as a manager, which he was paid to manage for a set fee among a range of other websites he was managing.
>>
>>62421907
Google complies with what they have to comply with to skirt justice. They still profit from anything they can get away with and claim ignorance. I'm sorry, how does someone profit from a tor site? But the real message is clear... principles are punishable by the toughest means, profit is ignored.
>>
>>62421907
yeah, no, absolutely not. Google is above the law because of good old fashioned corruption

But if the G word triggers you, think Craigslist. Same thing
>>
>>62421998
>Google complies with what they have to comply with to skirt justice. They still profit from anything they can get away with and claim ignorance.

Correct, if you were operating a multi-billion company would you hire hundreds of thousands possibly even millions of staff to check the content of your content daily? Google does not win many if not any points for taking the moral high ground, but under law they are compliant with the law of the countries they operate in.

>I'm sorry, how does someone profit from a tor site?

It could be in the same way that Visa and Mastercard operate, by skimming a small percentage off the money the seller makes or through a subscription based service.

You can also profit from a crime by having insider knowledge of the market, which you can use to undercut other sellers and or prevent other sellers from going below your price.

He was also 'managing' the site and it could be reasonable expected that somehow along his journey he may have encounter some of the material that could have been a thumbail that is an image representing drug use. A reasonable person who puts together enough of the clues could reasonable expect that he would understand what was on the website, which at this point he became a party to the crime if he did not report it to the authorities.

>>62422048

Craiglist is very similar to Google in following the law to the letter it needs to be compliant. They also love to reduce their responsibility of damages against them by clearly outlining the sexual health risks of meeting strangers online.
>>
>>62422112
>along his journey he may have encounter some of the material that could have been a thumbail that is an image representing drug use. What nigger?

> multi-billion company would you hire hundreds of thousands possibly even millions of staff

Reasonably? Yes.

> minimum create reasonable doubt
>>
>>62421998

Sorry if he became aware of what on the website he could open to profiting from the website, as my introducing to other people on referral to gain a benefit. Earning a profit can be seen as a benefit that can be monetary, receiving a service (i.e. blowjob) or even a good.

at the peak of silk road, drug related street crime declined in the us. let that sink in.

That was pointless when his sentence was commuted.

silk road was about free market and anarchocapitalism. they never intended it to be a drug market, it just happened.

>Go to prison for making a certain frequency
>>
>>62422281

I could imagine that a very similar trend was with pornography industry that overcame its regulatory hurdles, which from memory resulted in a decrease sex crimes.

I really could give no fuck if someone wants to use drugs as long as it has no impact on a child, young person or elderly person in their care. Your choice is your choice, which results in a reduction in crime without adverse effects on people who do not want to use drugs then go for it. Adults should be able to make these choices as long as they are aware of any potential risks.
>>
>>62422345

The claim is a judge needs to issue a warrant and if it turns up nothing it can risk his career.

Isn't a pulling a trigger and shooting someone pushing some atoms into some other atoms? Or clubbing/beating someone to death?

Very plausible.

I would love to see some actual stats on that though.
