Thoughts on Scala and the Play Framework?
The "better Java" argument sounds tempting, but I wonder if it's just meme tier and I'm better off using something more common/simple.
Anyone here toyed with it?

I tried it and didn't like it.
If you want an alternative JVM langauge, take Clojure, it's way better designed IMHO. Or just plain Java, you don't need this memey wannabe Haskell fuckery that Scala offers.

I use Scala and Spring every day at work, all our backend is in Scala/Spring. Love it. It's a much better Java.

"Better Java" my ass. It's a complete mess, thousands of ways to do the same thing, and not in a good way.
The syntax is horrible and inconsistent, and
semantics are bizarre at best. Java may be
less powerful, more verbose, but in the end it's a much better designed language.

Agree with this anon, you can't go wrong with a Lisp dialect.
