What did they change again?
>>
>>62385466
It was changed from a flag to a float. Set it to 1.0 to get the old behavior of “yes”
>>
>>62385217
What happened? Do you mean the Mesa 17.2 issue?
>>
>>62387051
No, that one is at least just a cosmetic bug. (Although it's also funny - the AMD guy thinks it's okay to violate the spec because he thinks it “feels sort of silly”). I'm talking about the 5+ other issues I have (broken vsync, vblank_mode ignored, --opengl-swapinterval does nothing, random monitor flashing after idling overnight, GPU power state flapping, no 10 bit support, error spam in dmesg, etc.)

It's like we're back to 2014-era nvidia drivers, back when everything was similarly broken.

Anyone here has experience programming video/audio synchronization using PTS with ffmpeg?

I am trying to play video and audio tracks in sync by adjusting them with external timer, however am struggling with some conceptual visualization of how exactly to keep them synchronized and dranger's synchronization tutorial just makes it worse by adding bunch of things to keep track of that go unused.
>>
>>62390839
If in doubt, mpv's source code could provide an example of how you could write code to implement this sort of stuff.

But I think in general, it boils down to a question of what clock source you want to be using, latency measurements, and how you want to compensate for rate mismatch?

Why you people do that? =_= The most important things except video-sync and interpolation are already included into opengl-hq profile. Copying some retarded settings from others without thinking is... retarded.
profile=opengl-hq
cscale=ewa_lanczos
scale=ewa_lanczossharp
video-sync=display-resample
interpolation
tsacle=oversample

Config above is pretty much all you need for very high quality playback. You can change scalers or add shaders according to your taste. Also add
icc-profile-auto
if you have an ICC profile for your display.

Feature level 9 cards should work with ra_d3d11, as long as you have the Direct3D 11 runtime (eg. Windows 7 or Vista SP2.) If/when ra_d3d11 is ever finished and released, it should work on a Radeon R300 series or newer, GeForce 5000 series or newer, or GMA 950 or newer. These are all feature level 9_1 cards that support the Direct3D 11 runtime.

Whether it will be fast enough to be useful is a different question (I have no idea.)

mpv-build compiles the latest git version of ffmpeg and libass but you can use an older version from your package manager instead of compiling it. you will probably need to install the development libraries (ffmpeg-dev, libass-dev, lua-dev etc) with apt-get or whatever it is on ubuntu nowadays. the list of dependencies are in the readme on github.

Exactly the same as before. --vo=opengl is just getting renamed.
>Does it select the appropriate renderer based on platform and hardware?
vo=opengl already does that (see --opengl-backend); opengl-backend is just getting expanded to include native d3d11 and vulkan. This is why `opengl` is getting renamed, probably to `gpu` by the looks of it. (So it would be --gpu-backend instead of --opengl-backend, and --vo=gpu instead of --vo=opengl)

It's such a clusterfuck.

The most stable is the open source driver. However, it doesn't support digital audio through HDMI.

The amdgpu-pro hybrid driver supports digital passthrough however it doesn't support later kernels 4.10+. BUT, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS upgrades the kernel to 4.10 through the normal upgrades.

So, the only way to have digital passthrough audio is to flash an older version of Ubuntu 16.04 and ignore kernel upgrades.

Such a hidpi screen is good for reading text but bad for video. Higher resolution -> needs stronger GPU for decent algorithms.
>>
>>62427002
On the other hand, the difference between each scaling algorithm is harder to see when you can't discern individual display pixels.
>>
>>62427021
No that's unrelated because e.g. a line that would span 1 pixel on a "normal" resolution will span multiple on a higher-dpi display.
Relative sizes (of elements in the video) stay the same. Elements will just take up more pixels at once and introduced artifacts, smoothness (unsharpness) of these elements will too.

4K display owner here, I don't think that's true. Do you actually have a 4K display?

On my 4K display, even bilinear looks way better than any scaling algorithm on a 1080p display, even for 1080p content. On my 4K display, the different scaling algorithms are very difficult to tell apart - on the 1080p display, they're clear as day.

>>
>>62427107
CRT display owner here. Even my 512x384 resolution .avi's from back in the 90s look great, and the new 1080p content downscaled looks amazing too.

Imho displays are just getting worse and worse. The screens might get bigger but everything else looks objectively worse.
>>
>>62427224
>I'm saying that your upscaled image will not look any smoother or sharper on a HiDPI screen than on a low DPI one.
I'm pretty sure that's bullshit. Just think about it: Smaller pixels means the scaler can more accurately reconstruct the image (less aliasing). Also remember that a 2160p display is needed to display 1080p worth of data with band-limited scalers (AKA almost all of them). So the effective precision of a 1080p display is not 1080p but 540p.

Well for one the way scaling is done makes mpv (and about any video player) render to ridiculously huge textures. Too big to make neat things possible with this iGPU. iGPUs itself aren't that dogshit anymore but combined with huge textures they are. It's inefficient but looks good.
Another story are OSX's graphic drivers which are old and shitty. You can dodge this one with another OS but a big screen being bad for small iGPUs stays as a constant.
