>buy refurbished Elitebook
>order a new battery along with it
>turns out the original battery still has about 5-6 hours of life left

So what now? Can I just keep the battery until the original one dies? Or is it better if I just swap them anyway?

You can store the weaker battery at 40-50~% charge in a cool, dry place for long periods of time.

Keep it as a backup, don't throw it away or anything on principle. Make sure to charge it back up every few months or so.

This. Batteries are expensive. You might consider using the old one as a backup or something if you're willing to lug it and frequently can't access an outlet.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
