Go to work trying to keep the US Military communicating.

The nice thing about living in Colorado Springs is that you have a 100% chance of being instantly killed in a nuclear strike.
Not really sure I'd like to live in a post apocalyptic world. I'm perfectly fine with not existing.

I'm a radio ham and have backup power of my own. I can generate more than I would use in an emergency. I would shitpost on RTTY and PSK31, listen for news and information broadcasts and public safety, etc.

>Generator

Uh, pretty sure the electronics in a generator would also be fried, so...

Personally would probably just go out and get a boyfriend finally. Or spend more time at my university because they would probably get power back faster.
>>
>>62326205
It totally depends on the scale of the outage.

If it's localized to a region, do your best to survive until parts come in from the rest of the world to get shit unfucked.
Mains power would probably be back up in 3 weeks max, the biggest concern would be food and fresh water to wait it out.
Half the state? I'll kick on the generator and help neighbors/friends make it through.
1/4 the country? GTFO to friends/family far away.

If it's on the scale of, say, all of North America or Europe, prepare for IRL Mad Max roleplay. For extended periods without power, society is *fucked*. All of our food relies on real-time supply chains, and in a situation like that, those supply chains will break down hard. People would begin starving within a week or two, especially in urban settings that are very depending on daily deliveries. Shit would get real ugly, likely with roving gangs that kill and loot.
The military would be able to operate for quite a while, but without the industrial power of the country to back it up, would deplete its stores of materiel and probably fracture.
I'd probably stand the best chance out in the woods, and see if I could join up with some like-minded people. It might take a few years, but eventually things would get back to normal.

The whole world? Die in a nuclear fire.

Not necessarily.

A lot of the risk in EMP/Solar Flares is the massive currents that are induced in long power lines. They burn out the specialty transformers that the grid uses, and wouldn't be able to be easily replaced.

Anything powerful enough to roast all electronics would probably be powerful enough to roast you.

>>62326205

Would an EMP actually fry something small and simple like an ECU? My car is 17 years old now, I don't think it has a lot of important electronics aside from that.
>>
>>62327400
>simple
oh boy

>tldr
yes
>>
>>62327400
It's all about capture area, modern electronics are more immune to EMP because they're so small.
>>
>>62327400
also, car electronics are built to withstand a lot
>>
Start figuring out if gear-based mechanisms can be turing-complete, I guess.
>>
>>62327367
You're not thinking of a prepper.

You're thinking of being prepared, which is something that every responsible person should be. There's no excuse for people being fucked when they lose power for 5 days or have to evacuate.

Preppers are the retards who hoard pallets of non-perishible food and 1000s of gallons of water, preparing for the end of society. They ignore the basic fact that to live beyond the few months that their stores would provide, they would have to integrate into the new world. These people are also usually paranoid and probably would not do well trying to make it in a "post-doomsday" world.

>>62327400
It's possible, but probably not.
If you google it, tests were performed on vehicles, and a significantly strong pulse would stall a vehicle that was running, but could often be fixed by just starting it again, or removing the battery cable to reset the ECU.
The ECU crashes mostly resulted from memory getting flipped, and ROM isn't very vulnerable to that.
>>
>>62327367
>camping gear
first of all you must have enough water and food for months

water purification and pumps require a lot of electricity so forget about that

assuming you only use 2-3 liters/day and have no family or fiends to take care of (extremely rare) we're talking about a shitton of water
>>
>>62327295
How EMP blast destruction works is basically modern LSI thin film chips are equivalent to microwaving a cd - we all knows what happens there

Larger scale coils / windings have a huge amount of capacitance and inductance. You can microwave a starter motor or transformer - it just absorbs it.

So old cars, generators, transformers are mostly fine. It's the bloody chips and transistors in the controll circuits that go open civility and brick the device

So you can still have electricity... It's just your back to 1920s technology for a while.

Also re: smartphones buried in a thick metal box. Should be fine. But useless without network. That being I have my first 16gb iPad in a fireproof safe with an offline copy of Wikipedia on it. That would get me through a lot of dark nights desu.
>>
>>62327467
>You can microwave a starter motor or transformer - it just absorbs it.

Sure, but what about when you have that transformer connected to miles of wire acting as an antenna?
The currents induced will be enough to short out its internals and kill it.

You don't need a reverse osmosis device for your drinking water if it's not chock full of radioactive particles. Sand and ceramic filters can use gravity without much hassle. Also a ton of water really isn't that much, you could even buy that bottled without taking too much of a financial hit, retarded as that may be.

I got a generator, ill probably get some housework done, ive got to powerwash the concrete and a side of my house.

Realistically, my town is practically owned by homeland security because "muh priority railway" so in the case of large scale disaster, the town is basically instantly under martial law. It gives me about 1 hour before the national guard shows up, before that its just edgy overfunded police. So the AR gets loaded up, I get on my bike and fuck off away from the tracks. has the EMP fried my laptop ? if not, play old vidya on laptop and hook it up to spare battery for charging. Also hook the aforementioned batery to solar panels I have. If laptop and all electronic devices are fried, i'd sit outside in a reallly fucking comfy chair, pour myself some whiskey I have and contemplate life. Then wear my gym clothes, go to the gym and then go on a long cycling route. Then I'd come back and read some books, and cook some food. A life I have always wished for.
About water,if the pumping station is also down my water reserve tank would run out in about a week, but by then I'd have assistance of my neighbour who has a well so that I don't have to spend much money on water. Food stores would close after a few weeks because without power they can't preserve shit, so I'd have to rely on neighbours farm again, but I already live on ramen so I have quite some packets of instant noodles .

Anon you seriously believe your laptop would survive that? What do you think an EMP is?
>>
>>62337844
>I'm sure he's taken proper precautions
Goes on to show that hipsters do not really know what the fuck are they talking about. Given the size of the tanks , it is not possible to create a steam powerful enough to drive at acceptable speeds, if safe at all. Please do research steam engines, people think they know about it, but they do not. Steam engines used to blow up all the time, and the thickness of boilers is nothing to be underestimated, not to mention how hot and heavy it'd be, to be able to call itself a motorcycle.
Steampunks are hipster normalfags with just pressure gauges attached. Please do elaborate how is it fully functional. Does it go at least acceptable speeds ? It is light enough to be handled by a single man in real life scenarios and not just photoshoots ? Does it run cool enough to not give the rider severe burns and testicular cancer ?

>Anon you seriously believe your laptop would survive that? What do you think an EMP is?
