My macbook Pro is 6 years old and dying. I need a new one. Are the new Macs worth it? The price tag looks disgusting and the specs don't seem much better than my 2.4Ghz i7 from 6 years ago.

Priorities.

Low fan noise and sleek looks are more important than performance.
Also throttling helps with the battery life.

>fast enough for most tasks
>best size/weight/performance ratio

That's just the objective things before going into details. Also where the fuck did you see 1.9k? Got mine for just 1300 two years ago, and still haven't seen anything better at any price point.

Surface Pro is interesting and I'd love some pen input for sketches and notes but it appears crappy at being a laptop. Besides Windows is getting more horrible every day. iPad Pro got all the same pros and cons, and while the OS isn't as crappy, it's very, very limited.

>>62319966
Air is overpriced trash these days and MBP much heavier, larger and got a fan. Most people won't notice the performance difference either way.

Loonix is useless for most people having a job, unless your job is IT stuff of course. Besides, it's ugly as death if you're not willing to waste some time to fix the mess.

I am talking from the perspective of your average customer, if you need some specific shit, the entire discussion is moot, since you know what you need best. The question was, why people buy it.
>>
>>62320164
If you kill ports, there are other better technologies. Bluetooth deprecated headphone jack. Wi-Fi deprecated things plebs need adapters for. There are sd cards and usb devices with wifi nowadays.

Would it shock you to learn that you - as a manual laborer - who, doesn't need a computer at all for his job, might be not the target audience for a portable computer n the price range of an used car with MacOS? It's great for freelance journalists/writers, doctors, mangers and so on. People who need a sleek system with enough performance for basic software, compatibility with their phones, minimal weight and enough battery to last through an intercontinental flight.

Wireless headphones still suck due the battery life. Apple fucked up by keeping headphone jack and going with lighting on their phones instead of just pushing USB C headphones.

Macbook 12 with two usb c ports and usb c headphones included plus adapter for headphone jack luddites would be absolute perfection. Instead they created a bizarre mess inside their own eco system.

No I'm not baiting. You think everything about laptops is about them being a huge pile of plastic junk with monster power-hungry CPUs and GPUs but real life doesn't work like that. A laptop is meant to be carried around without trouble.

I also have no idea why you keep bringing that dongle thing up. What the fuck are you even plugging to a laptop outdoors besides the charger? Everything else is handled via wifi, bluetooth, headphone jack.

Yeah the mouse isn't great, the right click area seems small so I often left click when I mean to right click. I've been impressed with the keyboard actually and I usually dislike flat keyboards.

The 27" screen really is beautiful - I don't think I could drop down to 21.5". The one at work has all the bells and whistles (16gb RAM, 512gb ssd, 4.2gb i7) but I don't think I'd need all that.

How many times will you pretend those arguments were invalidated to try and cover up the fact that you can't refute any of them?

I've been using a 2009 unibody MacBook since I bought it shortly after it's original release. It's never crashed, I've never had to reinstall the main os, I can boot it into Windows 7 and Linux, it still has a solid 5 hours of battery life using OS X, fans hardly ever spin up, good amount of ports... I can't speak for the newer MacBooks but I can say that the one I'm using has been hands down the best, most reliable and most versatile computer I've ever owned.

It could stand to be a bit lighter, have and sd card slot and I'm going to swap the hdd for an ssd eventually but apart from that I have no complaints.

linux needs less space, my OS with every program uses 10GB.
Also I have a home server and I stream every content I need.
My desktop needs 120GB (on my 240GB ssd), but it's not surprising. It has games and Visual Studio itself is bigger than my full linux system

"no".

Have a 2016 space grey one, costed me 1300€. Best computer I've ever owned. The 12" form factor is perfect, the screen is gorgeous, the force touch trackpad is great, the keyboard is the best I've ever used, the processor and graphics handle everything fine with no lag –and no fan. I don't use the USB ports so I don't care about them (I don't even own an adapter). Keep hating about electronic devices you don't own on an anonymous Japanese imageboard though if that's the best thing you can do with your time.

The Air also has a fan, every Mac aside from the 12" MacBook has a fan.
>>
>>62331202
Yes, although it's still limited a bit by CPU. MBP uses the same SSD but it's even faster there.
>>

"Lemme just wait for it to upload."
Also, I hope you don't intend to send anything bigger than a PPT file. Wifi isn't that bad for speed anymore but it'll still be slower than a physical connection.
>>
>>62331348
Air also got a joke resolution, making you overlook the other downsides. It would be a decent entry option for half the price but asking 1k for it is insanity.

MBP got it's uses and is generally a great laptop but the performance benefit (hence the need for fan) won't be noticed by most.

Even if you have a horrible connection, it won't take much longer than sticking in an usb drive, copying it to it and sticking it into another laptop.

For larger files, one probably would think ahead and bring a portable HDD. Just what kind of large files would you even handle on a passively cooled laptop with 12" screen?

A lot modern ones do actually, besides adapters exist and if you're already carrying a portable drive, you'd survive carrying an adapter too.

Which is like the opposite of what MB is either way. You're a completely different market.

>OH GOD WHY DID EVERYONE ON THE SUBWAY SEND ME DICKS"

The trackpad is just fine for it, at least it was for me when using one external monitor. It takes a bit time getting used to but it's way more efficient than moving around with your hands from the keyboard.

What the fuck even is that piece of garbage? I'm a tech enthusiast and I have the faintest clue as to what that's supposed to be. And LG? They are not in any shape or form a famed laptop manufacturer. Apple fucking built the modern computer and literally brought it to the masses.

The MacBook has incredibly long battery life in such a small package, the display is second to none and the software is literally years ahead of anything on Earth. Your shitty Linux remix distro or the latest Service Pack of Windows 10 cannot dream of comparing to it at all. Get it in your heads.

Honest to god /g/ why are you so fucking stupid? Idiots.
