You brain cancer moron, package management in Linux is fucking incredible. The variety of package managers offer you exactly what you want and are super configurable assuming you aren't an illiterate. Not to mention the hundreds of front end tools usable for any cuckdows like you. Why do some shills think Windows software installation is so wonderful, it is a lazy piece of NT Kernel garbage. Mac software management is worse, you have to jump through hoops to get anything to custom install and even then the security system doesn't speak to itself and just ends up a tangled spaghetti bowl.

When I started to mess with Linux I tried debian for future (now actual) NAS and Void for a REALLY old laptop.

Debian is just comfy and from default is very stable, although you can go all unstable you wish with it.

For Void beside the lightness on it (at least last time I tried it) I wanted some arch/gentoo distro alike, so I don't know why I just went Void. Comfy too, good packet manager and no systemD

People complaining about the "feel" of Linux are retarded. Linux is a kernel, it has nothing to do with the feel. Just switch your fucking desktop environment if you don't like the look.

Currently using Gentoo Linux with Awesome WM, but I'll give an honorable mention to my previous Arch install with OpenBox.

Why? Portage, Portage, and Portage. Use flags are the fucking greatest. Awesome is also just damn fun. I write all my own widgets just because it's a good way to kill time when you're bored.
>>
>>62321289
It's build server and DE configs. It's unnecessary to disable it.
>>
>>62321500
>>62310561
To be fair, Antergos being an arch install for the lazy and a simple setup is a pretty good sell for it.
>>
>>62313113
Only the very first install was a bit of a pain for me, and even then following instructions thoroughly on the arch wiki I was able to get the basic installation done within a few hours. Takes significantly less time afterwards since you are already familiar with the process.
It is where you go after there that is time consuming if you do not know what software you want from the get go since there is a lot of choice.

What you do is install it in a VM prior since it is more forgiving if you were to fuck up and have to start over.
As for arch breaking it depends on what you have installed on there, I haven't had any major issues for 6 months and counting now. Even if it should break I have daily scheduled backups so I just mount my backup drive and roll back then resolve the issue.

>>62310298
That is where I started since it is a lot easier for a beginner to grasp, I was hesitant about arch since I was worried about the rolling release model being unstable and that it would be far too time consuming to maintain and use. After messing around with it in a VM for a while I came to like it since I don't have to worry about reinstalling the OS when a new major version rolls out since it is always up to date.
By simply setting it up I got to learn a fair amount about configuring and maintaining the OS without delving too much into its inner workings or constantly spending an exorbitant amount of time managing it just to get basic tasks done.

I know that there's telemetry, but I like the idea someone cares enough to spy on me while I blog and program useless stuff for my clients.

Windows on my desktop because muh games
Slackware on my laptop because it comes with most everything I need and I don't have to worry about updates or things breaking almost ever.

Wish they made a decent chromebook desu. I've always loved the concept, but the hardware is cheap and shitty.
>>
>>62326566
If you don't care about Android apps, try CloudReady. It's based off Chromium OS but has great hardware support.

why does anyone still support gentoo after finding this out

The correct term for what you were doing is "fucking retarded".

No wonder it didn't work.

It's a source based distro, of course you're gonna have to compile, there's nothing weird about it.

Ubuntu mate zesty
It's not windows 10, and it's better than manjaro so far
>>
Manjaro
I don't have to add repository every 12 seconds to have a specific program.

I use Debian for CS and it's good too, but not as comfy as Manjaro

There is literally no reason for anyone to use loonix unless you are running a server or you have severe autism

There are many reasons to use linux and they're stated in every single thread that windows shills reply to, so you probably already know them.

just don't use arch

If this was the case, you'd have an argument.

How come it shits its pants when you bring your presentation on an ext4/btrfs/zfs formatted stick?

why would I use any of those formats when FAT and NTFS exist?

The OpenGL renderer on both is just terrible. Would rather deal with Wine and somehow get better FPS through the translator.

Not only that, Windows installs popular apps automatically if you don't disable it.

Setting default programs back to microsoft's crap after updates is worth mentioning as well.

I thought windows 10 was bad when I gave up on it and switched to arch, but it's getting worse and worse. I mean, the technical preview was far from being ready to be shipped around launch time (start menu wouldn't work for me and I wasn't able to shut down the computer properly.)

Nowadays even the login screen can break (I've seen cases where it would think one key on the keyboard is held down.)

Oh, there's also the fact that they didn't offer updates from vista even for money, and that they charge $100 for an operating system that datamines you and shoves ads down your throat.

I still don't get why there are people who defend it.
>>
>>62310235
How does this work? I've used alpine but docker seems confusing.
>>
>>62323668
>Antergos
That's my rationale. I've got a constantly updated system but I didn't have to prove I can slog through a fucking wiki to get my system up and running.
