Intel is done for.
>The entry right above Threadripper funnily enough belongs to the 1950X’s most direct competitor from Intel, the 10 core i9 7900X. Although notably, when looking at the details of the entry, the 7900X was overclocked all the way to 4.7GHz and paired with four TItan Xp cards to achieve this feat. Which, surprisingly, considering the GPU advantage and Intel’s significantly IPC advantage only netted it a 7 point lead..

Yes. Really. Not even 7900X, but POS that is 7820X. This was so goddamn hilarious I'll never forget that shit. Unfortunately thread was deleted before I've had the chance to take a screenshot of that.

Threadripper is surprisingly efficient stone even when at max default Turbo clocks, with consideration of all cores & threads. Nowhere even remotely near temps and power consumption that are on JewFail's side currently.

Maybe its because Threadripper doesnt have fuckhuge vectors for AVX.

>>62304823
>which is Intel-compiled as fuck
That's what makes this whole thing even funnier to me. The benchmark is suited more for Intel as others have been in the past at one point or another. And even with this, AMD's pure brute force and compute power allows it to keep pace.

What's going to happen when everything is just as optimized for AMD as it is Intel?
>>

But I'm sure there will be enough optimisation in actual software used for work and productivity. But for the end user and shit like games/benchmarks it's going to be a long time and an uphill struggle. I once went to a game dev on a business trip who were sponsored by radeon for their upcoming release and the marketing director laughed at the notion of amd graphics cards. At least their software stack was in openCL, they had just never tested it on radeon cards outside of end employee machines.

ah I see. That's something that anon has to work on now. Their image, and actually delivering with software/driver packages that work. Raja either needs to step up his game, or fuck off. I was an early adopter for the 290X. Regret. Then the R9 Fury after selling the 290X. Regret. Then I said fuck this, bought a 980ti, and haven't looked back. Nice to see AMD got their shit together with their CPU division, but the GPU section is just abysmal.

>>
>>62311718
Easily. We already know that core for core, thread for thread, Skylake-X is faster than Threadripper. AMD is on top right now because they fell back on their MAEK MOAR COARS strategy from all the way back in the Phenom II days. At the top end, you're comparing a 10 core Intel to a 16 core AMD. What you're forgetting is that Intel still has an 18 core model that hasn't been launched yet.

Did you buy that cistern of LN2 for your home already? Good goy.

It's EXACTLY BECAUSE Intel's garbage can't overclock for jack shit and is a literal Auschwitz oven that they have such low stock frequencies in comparison to Threadripper. They CAN'T go high unless you LN2 or FCWCL. i9 is absolute and utter effing TRASH binning.

The best pro-intel argument i can come with is "if they survived the 6502, Ryzen won't kill em".
It was a much weaker intel back then, the 6502 did cost literally 7 times less than the intel 8080 and was generally twice as fast, so ryzen will not kill em either.

But at the moment, time to go back and draw something better.

t. Pajeet
>>62329499
No, Intel also scales decently now. But it's bretty hot, yes.
>>
>>62329499
The IPC is only 5% lower, Intel just clocks 20% higher. 7nm will make Ryzens run at 5 ghz stock
>>
>>62329499
Depending on application, the IPC is pretty much identical. The problem is clockrate, where Skylake/kaby lake is mainly limited by thermals(and thus can hit 5 GHz on low core counts) while Zen is mainly limited by voltage(which means the clockrates stay more or less same as the core count increases).
>>
>>62329499
>Ryzen's IPC is less than Intel's
It's not. It's literally OverClocked Haswell. And Kaby Lake is a rebadge of Skylake, which is a rebadge of Broadwell, which is a rebadge of Haswell. So RyZen = Kaby Lake.

>it has nearly perfect scaling
Exactly. The yields and their quality are also insanely good, ESPECIALLY if you consider that this is an absolutely raw IP made from scratch. Zen 2 will be one hell of a great stone.

>while Zen is mainly limited by voltage

>>
>>62329587
He's a retard. Zen is limited by the node. 14LPP was never intended to clock high, it's a SoC process.
>>
>>62329536
>5% lower
~2% with best binning. Literal margin of error.

And, people, stop mistaking IPC with PPC. Zen has slightly lower PPC, but not IPC. These are not same things. If anything, gen1 Zen actually has greater IPC than Intel currently is able to output even it's most expensive and """""(((better)))""""" CPUs.
>>

>instructions per clock are different from performance per clock
?
>>
>>62329631
It's just sarcastic remarks, don't feed him.
>>
>>62329642
There can be many instructions performed in second, but performance per core can still be shitty due to many different factors (like tech-process restrictions and power envelope, temps, and etc). And gen1 Zen's IPC is greater than Intel's currently top offerings on the market, it does more instructions per tact, "losing" only by a margin-of-error slightly lower PPC. Just like that other anon already said - gen1 Zen has slightly lower PPC than Intel simply and ONLY due to restrictions caused by the old tech-process. And even then, considering this, it's absolutely AMAZING what they were able to pull off with such of a restrictive platform as 14LPP nm. Downright voodoo magic, no less. And it's all thanks to Keller's vision and ideas. There will be enough stuff to go on for at least two generations more.
>>
>>62329642
PPC is not "performance per clock", it's "performance per core". I guess they can be interchangeable for some, but I usually mean full performance with one single core (non-parallelized).
>>
>>62329691
