Alright lads, where should I start for learning this language
>>62302313
Coursera courses and Oderskys book
Why use Scala? Convince me.
>>62302414
because my employer wants me to
>>62302523
What's your job?
>>62302569

>>62302585
>i don't know

What is the job title
>>62302803
scala developer
>>62303217
correct

It runs on the JVM and has good two way compatibility with Java
In a week or two a good developer can be competent in Scala as a more succinct Java and use both Java and Scala libraries
Sophisticated production ready libraries such as Akka and Play
It's not quite Haskell but it does come very close in terms of being usable as a purely functional language
Enough oop to keep oop comfortable
It's fun to learn and has an active and welcoming community (almost always)
High paying jobs in finance and big data

"Scala for Java refugees" is good intro.
Oderskys book it's a must have reference.
For Functional Programming, "Functional Programming in scala" (the red book) is probably the best FP book in existence, let alone for Scala.
