>About routers and openwrt:

openwrt doesn't get security updates much, don't do anything other than using it as a dumb router. set up another pc for unbound.
>>
>>62296947
It seems like kind of a waste to dedicate a whole x86 system to routing. So you think the only way to have up to date routers is to buy one that's still receiving updates to the stock firmware? Is there any line of capable routers known for getting long term support?

Just switched from doing WinForms with VB to C#

Why does it give me an error in the Design tab when I remove an event handler in the codes? Does this mean that I cannot remove the handler once it's been placed? That's fucking retarded holy shit.
>>
>>62297185
Bah. You'd think there'd be one half decent manufacturer that would appeal to a niche market by making the router equivalent of the Nexus line. I guess if something is too complex for a kickstarter and too useful for the industry to allow, we're all just fucked.
>>
>>62297232
My point was unbound doesn't do routing, nor does your DNS server need to be on the same box as your router. Nor does your DHCP server.
Also a simple search for "pfsense box" came up with https://www.pfsense.org/products/
Also I think ubiquity does what you want.

Why does VeraCrypt take so damn long to verify my password in the boot loader? Is this actually a good sign or did i do something wrong during the encryption process? It basically just sits there for 15-20 seconds or so, truecrypt never did this

The encryption itself also took only like an hour or so for 150gb worth of files, is this normal with a brand spanking new SSD?

Basically what i want to know is whether my shit is secure now or not, i even used a longer password than my previous one with no avenues left open for any dictionary/brute force attacks and such

(I used standard encryption settings, left the PIM empty and moved my mouse around for like 3-4 minutes in that window, which is overkill i know but better safe than sorry)

There's a couple ways you can do it. Either unplug the ssd during install and have them be 100% separate installations (Your boot menue chooses you os) or let linux/grub control what you boot to. You can also let window be in charge, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Heh, apparently to the chief dev it's a feature and not a bug

https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/tickets/46/

I just hope it won't take longer and longer to verify as time goes on/the ssd fills up and just stays at those 10-15 secs, otherwise i'm going to decrypt and throw on good old truecrypt again

A few possible causes, in order of most likely to least likely:
>The outlet you're using is bad. Try a new one.
>Something in the chain of outlet plug->transformer{the box you plug the cord into}->input to PC is broken
>The female port on the board is broken or damaged; maybe the pin is bent. I don't know exactly what kind it is.
>The battery is broken in some way; no simple or worthwhile way to fix this.
>OS level issue somewhere in shitdows. Try reinstall/factory reset.

I'm installing two 2TB HDDs in my desktop. I haven't defragged in over a year.

Should I defrag my old drives first, then copy files, or transfer part of my files to the new drive and defrag afterwards?

pic related
>>
>>62298285
transfer then defrag
copying over the files will defrag them.. in theory, ntfs makes little attempt to keep things unfragmented, so chances are the new copies won't be completely unfragmented
however, the fragmentation in the source has no effect on the fragmentation of the target, the files are always read in their logically sequentially, even if they aren't physically sequential (fragmented)
so defragging the source then moving everything off of it won't affect the end result, the copy might be faster, but the defrag will make the whole process slower
>>
>>62297961
Things like gigabyte, nvidia and all those other normie brands tend to have a 3 years to 5 year warranty. So i can't really see how I get screwed? and it's acting funny I can just rma it. But I remember alot of people were doing that before and it was cutting into like companies profits so i'm wondering if maybe they can refuse a refund if they can some how prove it was used for mining. The same way they can refuse refund if you use it for unintended use like scratch my balls or ice hockey.
>>
>>62298337

thanks dood.
>>
>>62298346
Oh dude, you have way more fucking faith in warrantys than I do. Companies will put conditions and limits on those things out the ass. The default thing to do is assume that any warranty won't cover you, and if you need it to, you better read the terms or talk to someone who understands them, because that shit is meant to fuck you over whenever legally possible. Now there are limits to what companies can get away with and what kind of a hit they're willing to take to their image, but don't count on that to save you.
>>
>>62298364
np
worth noting that this only applies for file-level copies, that is, by drag+drop or copy+paste, etc
a volume/disk clone will have the same fragmentation as the source, as you are simply making a copy of the entire volume as-is, without affecting the structure of the filesystem(s) therein

this is one reason why clones can be faster in some cases, as a clone is always done sequentially, you completely ignore any filesystems

if your source is only lightly fragmented, cloning might end up being faster, but otherwise it won't be, a file-level copy operation has the advantage of naturally defragmenting files as they're being copied, while with a clone, you either need to defrag before or after, and the level of fragmentation will not have changed

Cheap tablet with HDMI port would be good. You could use it as a laptop screen without external power or just use the tablet by itself if you don't want to hassle with cables.
>>
>>62299533
Forget that, I'm retarded. Most tablets have a HDMI output, not input.

So I suppose you could lug around a monitor and plug that into a wall socket every time you want to use your laptop. Not really the best option for a traveler. If you find monitors in hotels you could ask for permission to temporarily connect one to your laptop.

Nvidia and AMD are having to adjust to the fact that desktops are now niche hardware, and with only two companies capable of producing HBM2 ram, we may be facing an era where current gen graphics cost way more to make, regardless of demand. Suddenly those price tier charts from last year start looking like a glorious prehistoric dream.

Because you change system colors like COLOR_MENUTEXT etc. If application is not using system colors for its UI elements then changing them will have no effect. In this case look for customization options in the program options. If there is nothing then the only way is to hex edit your application binary.

Anyone using this package?

I have it installed and working but have a conflict issue with gtk-update-icon-cache. Only ways I can find to successfully install that package on my system is to either:

1. pacman -Rdd gtk-update-icon-cache and then install the patched gtk3

Problem here is that even though gtk-update-icon-cache is installed with the patched gtk3 (although not in a separate package), so I get complaints from packages that depend on gtk-update-icon-cache.

2. Install the patched gtk3 in yaourt with --force. This prevents the above dependency issue, but doing pacman -Dk gives me

>error: file owned by 'gtk-update-icon-cache' and 'gtk3-patched-filechooser-icon-view': 'usr/bin/gtk-update-icon-cache'

Hey, stupid question here, but I can't get kodi addons to install on libreelec 16.1 for orange pi one (by jernej) and all the guides for installing it only state that other, unsupported, addons should be structured in a similair way with a file with info (addon version, site, description, etc.). Now after trying a few addons and structuring them the same as supported ones they still wont install.
So long story short; Will I need to find what dependencies every addon requires as well or is adding other addons a lost cause?

Alright guys i need a bit of help here. So my comp had a bunch of bsods, so i decided to try loading lubuntu, the installer failed about 15 times, 16th it went tbrough. But it still has errors internally, is this a hard drive issue, cause im thinking of replacing it. Its not a gpu thing yeah? Before it freezes some small lines appear and disapears

Check the smart data of your hard drive.
>>
>Want to restore backup
>Wait around an hour or so for files to be copied over
>Then suddenly over 3k instances of "file name too long"

What to do? Do i start again from scratch? Do it all manually after shortening the file names? I'm on win7 ultimate btw

Should i install this hotfix?

How do I share an iTunes library among multiple users on a mac?
>>
>>62305557
FUCK and of course it says "not compatible with your computer"

I fucking knew it would say this

There must be some fucking way to disable this annoying bullshit 256 char limit for file paths/destinations in win7... In win10 there's a registry fix or something, there's gotta be one for win7 too
>>
>>62305436
Fml yeah i did a memtest on it, 90624 errors that is definitely the problem

I have a headless server running Ubuntu and virtualbox with a couple of VMs.

The server has some shitty matrix g200 GPU. Is that why the VMs have sluggish UI? I've played around with the most of the settings butnits still like 3-4 FPS using rdp and Gbit Ethernet. Wat do?
>>
>>62305788
Has anyone here used robocopy GUI? It seems to have been last updated 10 years ago lel

Basically i just need to copy over the desktop folder with all those long path names from the target hdd to my current one
>>

*from the source hdd

Fucking migraine fucking up my spelling fuck

How to you access them?
>>

>>62305855
RichCopy seems to be a decent GUI alternative, going to give this a go now instead
>>
>>62305886
I use the virtualbox remote desktop feature and log in from my winblows desktop or my 2007 macbook using an rdp client. Shouldn't it be close to bare metal nowadays, apart from 3d accelerated shit which I have no interest in?

I can't decide between 1070 or 1080.

The most "taxing" game Id play with on ultra would be PUBG. I want the TI to future proof but it'd be a complete waste in my system.

ASUS Strix or FTW2 is what I'm looking at. Thoughts? Has EVGA fixed the problem with fires?
>>
>>62305969
Fuck off fag

Why do I get better picture off a sd card than using a hdmi cable?
>>
>>62305969
Always be future proofing. Get the better card it should be useful for longer. Also get better taste.
>>
>>62305895
Nvm that one's bullshit too and refuses to copy over long file paths aswell;

Fastcopy seems to have solved my problem, going to compare the two folders later on when it has done its job but i think i'm good and if not i'll keep the backup around anyways so no worries there heh

Weird, I can't post my question.
Cloudflare stops me then 4chan stops me.
Let me try to replace my code with links.

So, I have this service that returns solved captchas to me.
I'm trying to use 4chan x's API to add captchas. It almost works, so far I have this:
https://a.uguu.se/trtwvz87R2wI.txt
When I looked directly at 4chan x's database I can see normal saved captchas like this:
https://a.uguu.se/LH8rkPybDbMD.txt

But when I add one using my script it is:
https://a.uguu.se/S5SvqCxtaCgh.txt
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
https://github.com/ccd0/4chan-x/wiki/4chan-X-API#savecaptcha
Never done anything in javascript before this by the way.

Never mind. Figured it out.
This is pretty neat.

does spotify pay musicians money, if i go to sleep and keep music playing for 5 hours? nobody is actually hearing the music, so the musicians should get $0.00 for monetary compensation?!

what are the safe temperatures for CPUs and GPUs?
>>
>>62306565
Spotify does pay musicians (or, more often, record labels) money to license the songs for set contracts. It's not like a royalty system where they get paid more for more times played.

Room temperature.
>>
>>62306646
General rule of thumb is 80 C for core temps. Really depends on type/setup.

I assume plugging the SD Card directly into a TV vs. plugging the camera into the TV via HDMI?

Might be that the camera throttles the HDMI output, or that the raw image saved to the SD card is higher quality than a default HDMI output, or both.

I was taping a fan to the motherboard VRM heatsink so I put my hand over the CPU heatsink to reach a certain position
