>it's still programming and has nothing to do with computers or wafer fabrication

Why would you think you'd learn anything than basic electronics in CE? Are you mentally challenged? I'm assuming since you followed /g/'s sage advice on your future...
>>
should've done EE you brainlet

the STEM meme was flying around too and everyone said to do a SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING or MATHETMATICS degree...
Computer science is both science and technology so I'd thought I'd do 2 and get the best of both worlds in addition to /g/'s advice.
I thought I'd be interesting in TECHNOLOGY since I post on /g/.

>not realizing that most people here are memeing half the time and not telling you the truth
>>
>>62293168
CS is actually really fucking boring. The first two years are great though. The problem is that in most programs it is still primarily a math degree with some programming tossed in. The math isn't even the cool engineering kind either. It's the autistic hyper theoretical, value-phobic kind that no one likes.
>>
>>62293168
that's the dumbest fucking reason to pick a major I've ever heard
>>
>>62292945
That's what you get by getting advice from /g/ manchildren instead of /sci/

The only people who are into CS in /sci/ are /g/ outcasts and they are spit on.
>>
You only need to put up with actual coding for as long as it takes you to make middle management or PM though
>>
>>62293241
see
>>62293181
the exact same thing applies to the autistic STEMfags on /sci/, too. You're literally on the same level as OP
>>
>>62293292
I'm not though, I finished highschool and got a job instead of wasting my life with a meme degree.

But if you are going to do something, CS is the worst possible choice by far, autistic stuff like PhD in Physics is also useless of course, but the average sane /sci/ poster will recommend you to do CE or EE at least.
>>
>>62292945
My problem is that I wanna be a prograamer and computer science is apparently not really about that.
>>
>>62293421
If you want to be a codemonkey only, why not do some shitty certification instead
>>
>>62293421
A CS degree teaches you how to think like someone who designs entire languages or systems. Programming is part of it but it is not the whole thing.
>>
>>62293465
>>62293467
but if everyone has a CS degree but no one knows how to program then what?
>>
>>62293502
CS fags are expected to learn programming as a hobby anyway
Just like they don't teach people how to use computers, they also expect you to learn for yourself and be able to apply the concepts they teach you
>>
>>62293502
This problem already exists.
Tech companies cope with it by screening people through HackerRank.
>>
Comp sci with a major in security or straight Software Eng.?
Any opinions? University doesnt offer majors for SW

>major materials science
>take a CS minor
>get paid to do cool shit with expensive equipment while developing cutting edge electronics
>everyone assumes that you can program anyway so a CS degree would have been useless

Physics wins
>>
>>62293584
security. It's more interesting and you wont want to kill yourself after a few years.
>>
>>62293241
>they are spit on.
envy is a sin
>>
So it's either a meme degree like CS/CE autistic degree like physics/math and a cuck degree like businness
Great choice we have
>>
>>62293001
This. I fell for the compsci meme on my first year then switched to coen for second year but it's still almost all programming so finally switched to EE. I'm one year behind but don't regret my decision at all.
>>
What's a good major for someone who enjoys programming, but would rather work a 9 to 5 helpdesk IT job at some boring company than be a dev?
>>
>>62294700
Ce/s and be a tester instead
>>
>>62294700
Major in South Asian studies, minor is CS.
>>
>>62294699
Whats EE?
>>
>>62294893
Electrical Engineering. Conceptually it's a level below CS but above/beside physics.
>>
>>62294961
What jobs do you get with that?
>>
>>62293197
only a brainlet would think of that as a problem.

You done goofed. What did you even plan on doing after school anyway? Almost every job you could get with your degree would involve at least some programming. Try getting some IT certs instead

Took me three weeks to get Pascal's Triangle.

>major in cs because interested in tech
>can't program for shit.
>do well in science and math courses
>Can't
>program
>anything

At this point I'm hoping to graduate and nobody notices how fucking inept I am.

God it feels hopeless
I'm doing cs and I don't know what else I'd do instead anything else would add years into my college career and I don't want that

Fuck me
>>
>>62295214
>>62295438
I thought programming was something you could learn and get good at... NOPE!
You have to constantly google and take advice from pajeets on stackexchange and never be able to code on your own. Now that's BULLSHIT!
>>
>>62295467
If you're having this much trouble coming up with solutions to basic problems, then programming probably isn't for you. That's fine, not everyone has an inclination for it, but trust me when I say that it's not typical to have to consult stackoverflow that much. If you're copying code from there without actually understanding exactly what it does then you're doing it wrong and that's probably why you're not learning
>>
>>62295517
I can't even remember hot to start writing code from scratch without looking up the examples they give in the slides, textbooks or past work.
>>
Programming is shit as a job
>>
>>62294699
Heard it's hard as balls though. My roommate started in EE but transferred to Aerospace after two years of it.
>>
>>62295036
an electrical engineering job my breh

Idk if it's the same. I live in a third world shithole, but I'm studying a course called Computer Science & Engineering and I'm loving it so far. We've learnt Calc 1/2 the discreete maths and a shit ton of programing.
