why do so many linux programs think they can just dump files all over my home directory its very rude desu
That's how linux works. All configuration is done in home directory. It's a pro, not a con.
>>62286262
why dont they use the .config folder or something, its my home!
>>62286274
That folder does exist and is hidden, as well as most config files and folders in /home. I just keep them invisible during normal session in order not to distract me or erroneously delete them.

>he fell for the loonix meme
>>62286274
The application writer wrote it to use your ~/
>>62286236
yes its super rude... and the thing is that when you desinstall them they dont ask you if you want those files gone
>>62286274
dotfiles are supposed to be hidden so that they don't interfere with your work.
>>62286411
wtf i hate that guy
>>62286532
litteraly hide a problem and pretend it went away
is this the power of linux??
>>62286580
It's not a problem. Using simple flat text configuration files in a homedir means that I can reimage my system, or buy a completely new computer and literally just copy my homedir over to the new system and have all of my configuration files ready to go. I am sorry that the simplicity and elegance of such a long-standing solution triggers you so hard.
>>62286580
>a problem
That's where you're wrong kiddo.
>>62286620
Yeah, i get that, i feel like it would be more sensible to store them in a separate folder in my home directory however.
great i wonder which program made this '.tweets' file which is entirely empty. i guess i have no way of knowing if deleting it will break something so im held hostage and forced to keep it there advertisign twitter
freedom aint free
>>62286652
It exists. Look up $XDG_CONFIG_HOME
>>62286652
yeah, how hard is it to put config files in /home/config/?
>>62286652
Maybe, but the logistical hassle of making that change is far, far greater than any possible payoff since the dotfile solution is already in place.
>>62286705
dotfile is such an annoying word
>>62286720
Your concerns are irrelevant.
>>62286262
>all configuration is done the home directory
except when it isn't
files were a mistake
>>62286652
>>62286691
Make your own distro that does that. :^)
>>62286689
Now I understand why people hate systemd so much. I didn't really get it until right now.
>>62286746
Your protest has been noted.
>>62286236
This is the main reason I can't stand Linux. It's so messy, files just all over the place. Half a dozen different directories for libraries and binaries dumped all over the place with multiple different programs all jumped up together.
>>62286844
isnt there a distro that forces all packages to use the right place for files
i cant remember what its called though
>>62286777
kek
>>62286483
purge them
dconf registry is kinda fucky but I also hate how Plasma and KDE apps spew these config files everywhere. I don't even have a full KDE desktop suite (no Akonadi,Baloo,KDE PIM etc). I can't imagine what it's like for Kubuntu, Mint KDE etc.
>>62286892
macOS?
>>62286236
Learn how to quit vim.
It's not that hard.
>>62290706
should learn how to uninstall linux instead
>>62286752
please enlighten us
>>62290759
don't do this ur computer no work
