Swen vs compsci
Hey /g/ do i graduate next year with comp sci (already got a years and a half work experience so finding a job wont be hard at all) or do another years and a half and get a software engineering degree? Doesnt seem like the extra work will make that much of a difference where i live (new zealand). Anyone been in the same situation? Getting annoyed with being a poor student and not having my weekends to go do skitz shit

get it now, you'll have extra sklls and will be more marketable. You can fuck off later.

Not OP.
I want to go SE instead of CS because I think there's less useless shit and more time at home where I can focus on my skills and read programming books. Is this a good idea?

I don't know what software engineering is like outside of Canada but here the majority of the first 2/4 years is general engineering knowledge that's not programming related.

Alright op.
A Swen course code means you're looking at Vic.
Vic is not a reputable uni for either of those subjects, 5 years ago they tried to shitcan their CS and Swen courses.
Vic is not in the hiring pool for any of the large NZ or international companies (Google, MS et al).
UofA or UC are you best choices for either.
Fuck or even Massey.
If you want to be a Software Engineer -> Swen
If you want to be a Computer Scientist -> CS

CS and SE in Australasia share about 60% of their material.
SE usually does an engineering fundamentals year then you move into software development during your professional years.
CS you'll be doing CS papers, SE papers, Math Papers, Comp Eng papers and whatever fillers you pick.
