How likely will an i5-3320m x230 be able to last me through 4 years of college. I'm thinking of a sturdy but inexpensive laptop to use, but I'm unsure about the longevity of a laptop that's already 4 years old.

the x220 keyboard works with the x230 but will cause some problems

the only reason i would choose the x230 over the x220 is usb 3.0
the i7 version of the x220 has one usb 3.0 port but it hasn't been tested with coreboot

the x220 will get libreboot support soon

Anything not 1366x768. I know people think that is fine for a laptop of this size but I hate it.

Maybe it's because I have to switch back and forth daily between an x230 and an old 13" macbook air for work, but the screen res on the not-much-larger mba always makes me disgusted going back to the x230.

If I could perform that 1080p mod more easily it'd be my perfect device.

In general no, for me yes. Lots of people here don't care though.

Yes but only to a certain extent and it depends what you are doing. If you're web browsing it's annoying, if you're mostly in the terminal I don't think you'll care.
