Probably not in the way you're imagining, normalfags aren't deciding they're sick of Windows and downloading Arch or anything. The biggest driving force behind an OS' market share is its' adoption by OEMs, and because of the Chromebook there is finally a cheap, mass marketable device that runs GNU/Linux by default. Chromebook sales have been surging because of students, even surpassing macbooks, which amounts to millions of new GNU/Linux users. That's probably what I would probably attribute the market share increase to. I would be wary though, trading MS dominance for Google is not necessarily a good thing. At least if it continues to get more popular software developers will start making more software for Linux as a whole, so there's some benefits there.
