I liked the design shown here quite a while ago with a moon watch using the profile of Saturn 5 for the hands. Elegant.

Anyone here have new design ideas? Or complications?

Let's make this a more appreciating thread.

I don't hate Swatch at all. I just don't like the self destructing co-axial meme moment that needs exactly the right amount of lubrication or it kills itself. Give it another decade and it might be alright but it seems to be a flaw in the core design.

Omega is probably my favorite watch brand and if you can live with the horizontal clutch 1861 the speed-master is a great watch. There is a lot you can get for the same money however. I shit on grand seiko's all the time but honestly if it were my money i would seriously consider the SBGH005 as well. It is not a chronograph but it is a very good watch in a similar price range. IF you can get a speed master for under 3500 new i would probably go for that.

You know what, /wt/ I thought that instead of hunting a good-condition 3133 Sturmanskie or cashing out 6 million shekels for a NOS one I'll just build one from NOS parts. I know frankens are looked down upon, but that's mainly because of scammers, so what's the harm if I'm the one building a watch for myself?

Also opinions on this dial? Supposedly NOS, but the seller is Ukrainian, I don't trust those animals.

Okay so I checked a 3133 guide on WUS, and of course the DIRTY, LIAR, UKRAINIAN piece of shit scammer is selling is either a replica dial or a rework. The subdials are supposed to be recessed and have some form of machining. Now it looks like it's barely there, so the dial might have been repainted so thick the details filled up.

Knowing is half the battle against these animals.

It's not that bad. The other benefits the 1861 offers are things like being tough as fuck and providing superb accuracy.

Also fairly easy to service.

Good-condition Sturmanskies are in high demand, since they're the cheapest non-shit mechanical chronograph. No point in faking NOS Daytona dials.

Still I might have overreacted, maybe it's just a very late post-Soviet example with the dial manufacturing tools all blown out. Hard to tell for certain, so I'm not pulling the trigger until I'm 110% sure it's legit.

Anyone here have a Sturmi with the same/similar, but certainly genuine dial for comparison?

I own it. It's a great watch but not worth $3k.

You should purchase it at no more than 50% or 60% of MSRP.

It's amazingly thin, has a 70 hour power reserve, and is quite accurate.

It fits well within the wrist and you barely notice that you have it on.

One annoying drawback- no quick date change setting. So you have to move back and forth between 9 and 1 to change the date. It sucks if you have to go beyond 5 days or more.

Hey /wt/, I was browsing my local Kijiji and noticed this had come up a few days ago: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-jewelry-watch/city-of-toronto/seiko-king-quartz-mens-vintage-1977-jdm-wristwatch/1294401909?siteLocale=en_CA

I've been looking for this exact type of Penisquartz for quite a long time with not much luck or success. Personally I think the listing is a bit overpriced, but I think it is common to overprice stuff on Kijiji to give yourself some negotiating room. What do you guys think? Worth a shot?

The camera angle I use to minimize reflections off the crystal and in-car lighting that I use for most wrist shots tend to obscure my wrist bone. This shot makes my wrist bone much more obvious.

So yes, I am fat, but it's not primarily because I'm fat that you usually can't clearly see my wrist bone in the pictures I post here.

First of all, that is way overpriced for a penisquartz. Just use a proxy bidding service to buy one off Yahoo! Japan Auctions.

Secondly, since you are in Toronto you are morally obligated to start collecting vintage mechanical watches as we in Southern Ontario are immensely spoiled for access to gifted vintage watchmakers.
>>

>>
What's a good and fairly cheap digital watch?
>>
>>62253284
It really depends, all over the place quality is sort of a mixed bag between Japanese and Swiss. Something like an ETA 2824 is basically not going to have any problems whatsoever (frequent hand winding aside) and is the closest thing to a universal movement currently in production. Not considering beat rate, there is nothing that makes the Seiko 6R15 inferior in any way. I would also say that the shit based off the old 52 Caliber Seikos is just as good as any Rolex movement you can get for under $40k, and the Seiko Hi-Beats seem to be less picky and unreliable than the equivalent Swiss movements (eg Zenith).

I personally have had horrible experiences with 7S26 movements while my Amphibia seems to be happy being worn while playing golf or chopping wood, so I'd put Slav ahead of Malaysian. Chinese shit, in my opinion, is not worth considering unless you want to give a gift to someone you don't really care about. Unlike the Russians, the Chinese do not understand their limitations, and try to make shit that is too complex for too little money. The best way to describe Russian watches is "crude, but effective". Chinese watches are initially impressive but quickly disappoint due to poor QC and poor material quality. Indians are just worthless at everything they do, and this extends to watches.

>>
>>62253428
The unfortunate truth is that good, cheap steel bands don't really exist, they're just differing degrees of shittiness. You're not going to find an 18 millimeter steel band with solid end links and a good clasp for cheap, and I can only assume cheap is what you want, considering it's for a Seiko 5. I would stick to high-quality leather, or even rubber. You can get some dope ass Italian leather or silicone rubber straps for like 25 bucks.
>>
>>62253177
The guy is located in Southern Ontario and is selling a Penisquartz? I would not be surprised if he browses or previously browsed /wt/. Maybe include "fuck Ninefag" in your email.

Anyways $300 CAD is too much for a Penisquartz, even if it is one of the nicer versions. I would say this is about $100 overpriced. Offer him $200 and see what he says. Like this is just way too much "negotiating room" , I suspect he may very well have spent $300 on this originally and is just trying to get his money back.

>>62253321
Yahoo Auctions comes with its own host of risks. I haven't used it for watches, but I have tried buying games, consoles and even computers off there before, and received units that either did not work or were vastly different from what was described. After my scam transaction ratio reached 50% I stopped using that shit. In my view, it is probably better to overpay a bit in a local market where you can physically inspect the product than to expose yourself to the bullshit system that is Y! Auctions. Think of it as an insurance policy.

>>62253354
Or eBay works too
>>
>>62253592
Honestly, there are some Chinese steel bands of surprising quality for the price, but it's a bit of a crapshoot as to weather they're going to be branded as Rolex or something because Chinese sellers routinely shop out such branding in product pictures.

I have to say I've had nothing but great experiences in buying watches off Y! Japan Auctions, actually. Every vintage watch I've purchased from there arrived in as pictured condition and working.

To be fair, you are correct that you have essentially zero buyer protection buying from there, but the discounts vs. eBay pricing are often large enough to make it well worth the risk.

Back and grey is "specter" or Craig Bond and black, red and green is "commander" or Connery Bond and to do it right you have to do it 2+mm narrower than your lug width.
Which is why I laugh when LARPers say Bond NATO and have Connery's one and have it the same width as their watch because he didn't do that.

I get Miyota 2035's from my part supplier for about $2 a piece, prob less if I buy in bulk. Though these probably would use even cheaper SII PC-21 movements (pic).

However the Chink Wellingtons I changed batteries in so far all had the Chinese SL68. Looks like they weren't one of those "high-quality" reps :^).

That's a Miyota 20something (can't remember the exact model number of the two-handed version). The 2035 is what Casio puts in their entry-level MTP line.

This is truly a standard in the watch movement field: cheap, reliable, small size; still packs a serious punch, COSC accuracy.
Do i have to keep going?
This is the perfect movement for a not so enthusiastic watch wearer.
Amazing what Japanese engineering can do!

The only Seamaster to my knowledge that has a patterned dial like that has a different case and arguably an uglier Invicta tier bezel.
>>
>>62269176
It's not a PO homage, it's a regular Seamaster homage. Although the hands, indices & bezel are different. Really it just shares the dial texture.

>Not wanting a more accurate watch when you're diving
>>
>>62269415
Care to explain why?
>>
>>62269497
>thinking that the accuracy matters on your watch while diving when you don't use it to time anything longer than a handfull of minuted
>not using a dive computer
>not using a cool mechanical dive watch on the side to time other things you do while diving because it's fun
Any watch while diving is irrelevant to tell the truth so you may as well have fun with your watch either mechanical like old school divers or big as fuck G-shock with all the sides.
