Hey so I don't get the controversy around the purism librems.
I know when they first came out they were just expensive laptops with linux support, but now that their ME is removed and they support coreboot OOTB doesn't that mean they're just as free as any libreboot laptop?

Dude, as far as freedom goes, they're EXACTLY THE SMAE
Get a librem tho, it's 10000x faster

Yes. Although I couldn't bring myself to buy anything of theirs given how scummy they are. I'm also vaguely aware the touchpad driver that ships in their distribution wasn't upstream at one point, although that might be fixed now.Honestly, they came across as disingenuous when they started, and that hasn't changed.
Even now their site produly advertises
>We are pushing the most ambitious hardware+software liberation effort ever undertaken, with a strong focus on security.
What the fuck is that. All they've done is use money they got by pretending they had the means to remove Intel's management engine to get coreboot ported to their hardware. Then they go and change their site turn 'remove' into 'neutralize' where the management engine is mentioned so they can get away with running a tool someone else made.
