I didn't see one of these on the first many pages, so I figured I'd start one up.

>First PC buildd a couple weeks back

Am I missing something? I realized I forgot the audio driver, so I'm installing that now. But it's taking 15-20 minutes to do something my much less powerful laptop could do in < 5. Is there some compression driver I need to install to bump this up, or what gives?

I want a dedicated >gayming server for some friends and I, and I'm contemplating going for an LGA1366 motherboard & X5650.
Would it be better to just get an i7 Dell optiplex to use as a dedicated machine for that? Do the 2 cores matter for hosting a >gayming server?
Also, does the core count matter much for my own dedicated storage box attached over the network? It'll be only me that uses it, so would there be a benefit in using something like an i7 optiplex for that too?

This is everything I have on my laptop right now, do I really need all of this? There are like a dozen MVC++ versions, which other programms use them all? Also if I remove the two asus things, my laptop gets buggy, but shouldn't it be possible to make Windows 10 install a proper driver for the mousepad instead of having to rely on the asus stuff? Or the Visual Studio C++ for tomtom (I don't even have a tomtom anymore), how can I check if any other programm needs it or if I can just deinstall that shit?
>>
>>62217019
No, you can tell because when file explorer crashes the background doesn't reset.

So I'm looking at stands for a desktop mic setup because I don't want to deafen my friends with keyboard noises. A good few of them clip onto the desk. These should be avoided right? I mean logic would dictate that you'd still key keyboard typing vibrations. Or am I overestimating it?

>>62217185
It's mainly an issue of: I can't get it close enough to me so they can hear me without also getting it near the keyboard. No amount of sensitivity waggling is going to be able to deal with the fact it has to sit on the same surface as the keyboard about 1 foot away. I plan on getting a new microphone that's XLR and the audio interface and everything but I can't afford it right now. I just need a stop-gap in the mean time.
>>
>>62217251
Why not go cheaper and get a USB headset?
it'll increase the distance to the keyboard and close the distance to you. also USB allows good control of the device. just saying you can go cheaper and achieve the same thing perhaps

USB noise can be an issue and I really like the headphones I have now. It might be a good stop-gap but I'd really just like to move away from USB. I could get a little jack microphone but I have hobbies I enjoy that require recording and such, so I'd like to step up really.

for x in ["abc", "abcde", "abc"]:
sys.stdout.write("\r"+x)
sys.stdout.flush()
time.sleep(2)

This code first prints out abc. Then it jumps back to the beginning of the line and overwrites the line with abcde. Then it jumps back to the beginning and overwrites the line with abc, BUT it doesn't erase the "de" part at the end, so the line will still say "abcde".
How do i clear the line after each print? Using Python 2 if that matters.

If it fits it can work. With that in mind, you should find out where the wall outlet actually leads. Use pic related to do so.

If it doesn't go to your router, it's hooked up to a phone line. It can easily be cut, crimped, and plugged into your router to make it work.

Not hard, just sounds complex. I've run dozens of these in a few hours.

I have an asus laptop that's about 4-5 years old, I left on a trip for 2 weeks, and came back to it running extremely slow, it's been having 100% disk usage on and off for the last few days, and finally it just will barely boot at all.

I left it running for 2 hours this morning while I ran some errands, and came back to it still not having loaded the desktop entirely.

I tried to boot it into safe mode only to get put into a boot to BSOD loop until auto repair kicks in, says it can fix the problem and brings me back to the boot options menu.

I don't have anything set up for a windows recovery to perform a full wipe, so it won't let me do that, and apparently I'm not the admin of my own machine so I can't even try a "refresh", and now I'm just stuck in a reboot cycle at a black scrren. Anyone have any advice?

If I want to control an arduino nano with a potentiometer and I need 100 values (percent), does the resistance matter?
I'd have to measure current and according to ohm's law it'd be 5V/resistance.
Essentially what's the minimal interval that the arduino nano can emasure current? Can I use 1MegaOhm potentiometers to get the numbers from 0 to 100? Or can't the arduino measure such small currents (*10^-6A) and I have to buy slightly more expensive potentiometers with lower resistances?

Essentially: Can I measure the resistance of a 1MegaOhm potentiometer and get 100 different values (%) or do I need to get smaller resistance potentiometers
>>
>>62220756
Or am I too stupid to understand something fundamental here?
Does the ardunion measure the Voltage or the current?
If it's Voltage I could essentially use any resistance, if it's current I'm afraid the current is too little to be detected.
It has a resolution of 1024 bit -> 4.88mV/state. If I only need 100 states I only need a resolution of 0,05V = 50mV. Unless it measures current.

So far I've only been writing console programs (I'm only starting) in C#. What is the name of the most default GUI style for Windows apps? If I took a Windows 95-era program and executed it in Windows 10 what would be used to render it?

There seem to be too many options of making your software eye-catching nowadays. I just want to make simple, Windows 98-like software for modern systems.

Hey gang. I want to do a fresh install of Windows on my hard drive, and in order to prepare for that I want to back up my current drive (only 120gb), but I want to do it in a way so that I can just go in there and fetch files and such as I need them, with no permissions bullshit. I'd also like to delete things from the backup as I transfer them over, with the goal being to eventually sort through and remove all of the files that are unneeded (probably most of them, but I want to back everything up, including registry stuff, just to be safe). What software would you use for this and why?

freefilesync for most of what you're talking about. "registry stuff" is useless to you independent of the rest of the install. If you're trying to backup your entire drive- windows settings, program files and all, then do a system image with macrium reflect. If you're considering restoring it to a different mobo then run a sysprep first (will remove windows activation)

They're usually not. But if you're sending super high quantities of data then interference can slow you down, like how dsl's capacity gets reduced with line interference/distance. So they're potentially more reliable at gigabit+ speeds. For almost everything on the market now 5e is plenty.

Anyone else use staxrip? instead of manually changing the destination folder (default is to put new video file in the source's folder), what is the syntax for changing this automatically?

example: source video is C:\input\video.mp4
output automatically is C:\input\video.mkv (lets say I use different container for output).

instead I want:
C:\input\x265\video.mkv , as my output. Such that I can do this in batch and it will automatically create a folder (in this case named x265) in the source folder, to place all output video.

2560x1440 and a 99% chance it will run at 96Hz, and a decent chance it will run at 120Hz. Also, its a PVA panel, which is on par with IPS. Further, because there is no scaler, the input lag is extraordinarily low.

Please note that the HDMI (aka multi) version does not have low input lag and most likely will not run at 96hz)

Thanks! It looks pretty good and it's at around or even below 200$ now AND it's matte.

actually searching for something works? The main page works fine, but I cant get past the homepage

>>62224342
Yeah just search for t420s

My biggest complaint with it: the stand. It takes VESA mounts, but to remove the neck from the original stand involves disassembling the back panel. I didnt even bother, I mounted it on a VESA stand and left the neck from the original stand. it prevents from tilting down a bit, but one day I plan on properly removing it

You're being a stubborn faggot. I told you it's on your end.

What would you like me to search to prove it to you.

Open up command line and ping ebay. Try a different browser. Fuck if I know. Whatever issue you're having is really vague.
>>
ftp dd wrt seems to be down can anyone find a mirror of the image for the WRT 160N v3. It's the same as the E1000, supposedly.
>>
>>62224420
the ebay home page loads and works fine for me. pinging it isnt going to show anything there. If I search for literally anything, the page turns white, and it just continuously tries to load

fyi, youre the stubborn one here.
>>
>>62216898
What's a really lightweight browser for windows that I can use to browse youtube and 4chan. I'm tired of using chrome and firefox and want to try something different
>>
>>62224463
Nah dude. Another guy here. 10/10 it's shit on your end. If it's really fucking with you, try reinstalling your browser.

>>62224484
all I wanted was ONE other person to try. Once they did, I was satisfied that the issue is on my end.

its a lot easier for one other person to try to confirm than it is for me to trouble shoot some obscure problem. But I got accused of being stubborn because I wanted one person to spend 5 seconds to do an ebay search before I do potentially MINUTES of trouble shooting

anyway, Im obviously not going to reinstall my browser, but open to other suggestions. I cleared cookies, cache, and offline website data; should I clear something else?
>>
>>62224503
I dunno man... Shit's fucked. Try scanning for virus.
>>
>>62224553
You should always assume it's on your end, though.
>>

>Im obviously not going to reinstall my browser
Then use a different browser or computer. If you're not willing to reinstall a browser to fix your issue, that's on you.
>>
>>62224155
Any chance it's a UEFI vs. BIOS issue?

>>62224553
Have you confirmed it's the browser's fault? Does it work in a different browser?

I used malwarebytes. adwcleaner, and avast, none detected anything. I'm probably going to just try reinstalling windows at this point

There's any motive I should use a linux distro instead of making a hackintosh? Keep in mind that I don't care about the "le proprietary meme".

Sure. /g/. Otherwise known as the place that's not your technical support. You're not entitled to anything, but you sure as hell seem to think you are. Learn to solve your own shit, show a little gratitude, and realize that nobody owes you.
>>
>>62224844
Whichever one fits the job. Just back up your profile and start over. If it works, then put your addons and shit back on one at a time until you run into a problem. It's the way that most shit without an obvious answer gets solved.
>>

Lets make this simple. If you're not a dick, and you're a little more open minded, you get more help. This is true basically everywhere. Learn to value other people's time. There were at least 2 anons here that probably could have helped you more, and your attitude basically shut that down. Some people learn that shit eventually, others don't. Good luck.

Some people come into the thread just wanting help for stupid questions.
Some people come into the thread just wanting to help.
Some people come into the thread just wanting to feel better about themselves by insulting people asking questions and throwing a fit when they get called on it.

It seems stupid questions attract stupider people.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I did not fix the problem.
Luckily, it decided to start working on its own..

I think it might be the motherboard itself or the SATA, neither of which are easy fixes for me, but would not be surprising because the machine is 10 years old and been tossed around.

if you can, try running a SMART test on the drive. it sounds to me like its failing. I have a drive that would randomly disconnect and reconnect. It would constantly get read errors, but it would work fine for a while between errors.

get a t440p on ebay and put one of those nice 1080p ips screens in it and the t450p touchpad. the processor isnt soldered in those so you can upgrade to the i7 4900mq later too if u want

Fuck, that's awful. I was really hoping there would be an easy solution.

I need to somehow display text from multiple files interactively on a PHP page. If I could somehow read the files with PHP and pass the text as an argument to the JS, that would work, but I do not really see a way to do that without breaking the page.

Just plugged in an audio unit to a powerboard and either the powerboard or the AC adapter started humming. I turned it off almost immediately but now the AC adapter is warm and smells like its burnt.. How the fuck does that happen? Is there a chance it fucked up my audio unit? I'm too scared to try and plug it in again.

So I'm aware that the Microsoft® Xbox One™ has "special" apps on it, ones which seem innocuous at first but have the main feature buried in some hidden menus. For example, there was a pretty standard "music player" that was actually a N64 Emulator once you navigated through its hamburger menu and clicked some things in the settings screen.

My question is this: Ignoring the impracticality and reasons why someone would want it... Is there a 4chan browser embedded in a "normal" app for Xbox?
