So, for the past many years, AMD was stagnant to the point of irrelevancy. Now with their latest platform, they are again a viable CPU for performance and gaming enthusiasts. I had switched off to Intel after the Phenom II became too old for me, so I am a bit unversed on the new AMD stuff.

What is /g/'s take?
Is AMD value king now?
What are the benefits of the AMD CPUs?
What are the benefits of the Intel CPUs?

I have recently recommended a seventh gen i7 to a colleague, but I'm curious now in retrospect if I should have looked at the new AMD stuff before blindly telling someone to get the 7700k

I know you guys keep up on hardware a lot more than I do, so looking for some feedback, discussion, arguments, etc

AMD has less botnet iirc

we still dont know how psp works sounds like a botnet free but who the fuck knows

Best thing to do is look for benchmarks and review articles already out there on the subject.
AMD and Intel enthusiast chips are fairly even, but they vary slightly in different areas.

Basically, what I am saying is, just fucking google it.

Intel chips still hold the performance crown in all workloads. AMD remains the option for people who can't afford the best.

sure it does gibbo sure it does

I always try and root for the underdog and Ryzen is my first AMD CPU since bulldozer was just really bad overall.

AMD of course moar coars, cheaper mobos, and a socket that will be used more extensively than intel. Better price to performance.

intel better single coar performance. thats all that intel really has. Intel overclocks better than ryzen but ryzen 2 will be better at OC

>Buy first gen 1151 board+i3 thinking Intel will launch 6 core chip before they change sockets.
>they finally do
>same socket new chipset

Now I guess it's just waiting to buy a 6700k/7700k used down the road.

if you want to play gay gayms then buy intel
if you want to do anything else buy amd
>>
there is no reason to buy intel
games 1600 is practicly on par with LEL 4 cores MHU OC 7700K
1700 and the rest really just shits on intel in general
r3 literally made g450 obsolete

the new JEWRIPPER processor is your best bet for pretty much everything.

16 BBC sized cores puts intel's cores to shame.

>The best
If you are not already preordering 4 Xeon Platinums, you cannot afford the best. 'The best' can only be the highest performers which is way out of reach to those 18-core i9 buyers. An entire brand range cannot be 'the best' since there are always SKUs that performs worse than others at a cheaper price point. No way the 7980XE can hold the 'performance crown' when there are multiple-socket Xeons that have significantly more cores and similar clock speeds as the i9.

AMD is 95% of the performance for considerably cheaper

The 1600x isnt even cheaper than the 7600k, they are about even.

Maybe its just my location.

choose amd if
>you benefit from multicore performance
>you don't want to sacrifice 50-70% better multicore performance for 5-20% single core performance at the same pricepoint
>you want good temps
>you want an upgrade path on the same motherboard

choose intel if
>you need that extra ST performance
>you need low-latency (not so sure about this one)
>you want a space heater (i9 or OC'd 7700k)

pick your poison
