If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor
Fuck miners

What PSU should I get with this? The one that's listed is a stand-in for the one I have right now (be quiet system power 7, 80+ bronze 350W), and I think it could just about do for this build, but probably not with an overclock.
Also if I fucked something up, feel free to tell me. I just ordered all of it but I could always cancel the orders. The storage I already had from before.

>Ncase
Literally why. Such a waste of money. You're paying premium price for less case. Just get a Corsair or cooler master case for 1/4th the price. The CM elite 130 case is like $40 and does all of what the Ncase can.
>>62185716
Get the 1200 and overclock. Take that saved $30 and invest into an aftermarket cooler. Or faster RAM.

And let's be honest. A year from now a Ryzen 1600/1700 will probably be below $150 used. You'll be able to upgrade on the cheap easily. Just make sure to invest into a good B350 board.
>>
>>62185594
depends on how much money you have and how much storage you need.

>>62185716
you get better performance before OC, and identical performance after OC. if you don't plan to OC, or not right away, the 1300x will be a bit faster. i'm going to overclock it so i went for the 1200.
>>
What do you guys think of this build. I have already bought the cpu, mobo, case, and psu. Is there anything I should change on it before I buy the rest?

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Ayz/saved/XXzHxr
>>
>>62185750
>>62186051
I don't plan to OC, I guess the 30 was worth it if I don't feel like messing around. I know it's easy but I'm not worried about it on a build like this. I went with a msi b350 tomahawk arctic on sale, will that board last me a decent amount of time? My asus board was similarly priced and I squeezed 6.5 years out of it, I literally just made the switch from ddr3 to 4, and from windows 7 to 10
>>
>>62186076
Everything looks fine. I think you could have done better for the case but it's bought already.
Maybe consider a larger SSD if you want to have several different games on it at the same time. I'm running a 120GB right now and it gets a little tight.
>>
>>62186132
>will that board last me a decent amount of time?
it should. and it allows OC so in a few years if you feel like your cpu is running out of breath, you will be able to get more performance in a few minutes.

>>62186263

>>
>>62186138
I'm planning on just using the SSD as a boot drive. As for the case it is surprisingly well built. I have every thing wired up that i bought and there is more than enough room for all the wires. Build quality is fine too. I prefer to have no window so the small one on this case works well for me. It is all aluminum, all the edges seem smooth and I haven't gotten cut on it yet so I don't have any complaints.
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tCJCRG
Here is my build, I am mostly happy with all the parts of it but I wanted to specifically ask about the monitor if it seems like a decent one in performance vs cost. As well as the speakers. I really want to get a good speaker set up and just felt like asking in here if anyone has some favorite speakers they get for their PC if concerned about music quality.

Biggest regret about lastest builds?

I built one last year and I'm happy with everything performance-wise, but all I want now is something smaller. I got a mid-tower ATX case and it's fucking huge! Next build will definitely be mITX.

SPEND SOME FUCKING TIME RESEARCHING A CASE!
it's what you have to see everyday and lug around if you want to take it places.
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cH9YxY

My biggest focus on this build is going to be gaming/VR, although I will be using 3D software on the occasion and rendering. My budget is about $1500 USD, and let it be known this is my first build. Does it look good, am I missing anything in particular?
>>
>>62187282
Full ATX and full tower or go home imo. Less bullshit all around. No researching to see if your case is big enough to handle that new 3 slot monster video card. No looking to see if your case is deep/tall enough to handle that new air cooler you just bought or if you have the room for a radiator.

Just werks. My main PC is built inside a CM trooper and my server inside a fractal Design R5.

I can only speak from pondering at work and I haven't researched anything but how successful would you be with a mATX board and case and using a r5 and the integrated graphics? You can't skip getting a GPU since Ryzen CPUs don't have integrated GPUs, so you either have to buy a graphics card, wait until you can buy a Raven Ridge APU, or buy a Bristol Ridge APU

New build I just threw together, upgrading after 5 years on a 300USD budget build in a salvaged case. I plan on gaming, mapping said games, and some light rendering/photoshop bull. Kinda want something that will last a little bit, i'm a poorfag.
A few things to ignore: I have the r9 270x already, second-hand from a friend. Gonna ride that until this GPU fiasco dies down, or until I save enough to cash out. Also, I am reusing 2 HDDs from my current build, along with one more on the part list.
I've heard the stock cooler for the ryzen 5 is good enough for overclocking to 3.8GHz, but I wouldn't mind buying something aftermarket if it's just better. The sound card is because I have speakers fresh off craigslist I want to set up, and the WIFI adapter is because reasons.
I have the meta nzxt case selected, but I really like this coolermaster case even if it's a bit long.

you should really try to get a b350 motherboard for the overclock. also that psu isn't very good, but the less expensive good one i can find on pcpartpicker uk is https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/nB3RsY/seasonic-power-supply-s12ii620bronze which is £15 more, but I would still spend that to get a good PSU.

The budget for the whole build? I'd like to stay between 1.6-1.8k if at all possible but I can manage 2k if someone convinces me its worth futureproofing.

Life story TLDR: I have been using the same PC for like 6 years and am tired of playing modern games on low at 30 FPS. I wanna max modern games at 60 FPS at 1080 or 1440p and hopefully not have to replace anything for 3-4 years at least. I don't really have any plans for editing or streaming. I'd prefer also a case with a focus on airflow over looking pretty if it comes down to it.

oh shit I didn't expect that. uh...
you probably could yeah, i did a quick test with a typical PC with a R7 1700 and R9 190 and pcpartpicker shows an estimate of 454W. And 620*80% is 496. But that doesn't leave a ton of headroom for a big OC.
But if you find something that's 750W that's not a Corsair CX, you should be fine for any and all builds you can dream of (short of multi-GPU but that's retarded).

I know it doesn't make sense but I can't seem to successfully use an ssd. Last time I tried I got tons of memory access errors, is there ANY reason why my computer would shit itself at the thought of running windows on one and running steam on another?

psu is a little overkill but it's not too much more expensive than a reasonable alternative.
You can get better $/GB on a 3TB or 4TB drive but if you aren't going to use that much that's fine too
>>
>>62194863
Well try a port you know works first, at least narrows down what could be going on

Already have 1 1080. I'm buying a 1080Ti a second card for CUDA 3D rendering. Consensus on the forums is FE is the way to go unless you want to do custom water cooling.
>>
So how long until LED bullshit becomes mandatory via optical transfer becoming an economical reality and LEDs becoming the next step in cooling tech?
>>
Recommend me a PC built around a i7 7700k or its equivalent AMD shill CPU. I will get a 1080Ti too. I plan on overclocking. Everything else is up to you.

I'm from Australia if that matters for PC part availability or costs and I tried using Logical Increments but its recommendations vary between the country options you select so I'm getting cold feet with their default selections.

Anyone have hard drive recommendations?

I need to get a single 2TB drive for my rig, my current drive went down the tubes and I had to scramble to salvage my data because I'm fucking stupid and never backed up my shit.

Because I want to stop being so fucking stupid, I am going to get a USB 3.0 enclosure and am going to do regular backups of my shit. This drive also only needs to be 2TB.

So basically: I need a 2TB drive for my rig, a 2TB drive for an external backup, and an enclosure for my backup drive.

I just ordered that exact card.
From the reviews, it looks like you can OC to 1500MHz but not much more (which is what some other cards come from out of the factory). But it stays cool at that frequency.
>>
>>62196725
This is what I already built last year, looking to upgrade it a little now. I am sharing this information so that others may give their opinions on my proposed upgrades.

I've been told I should consider holding off on the i5 and pickup a ryzen later, but that seems a little silly as I'd have to get a new mobo as well, don't think the cost is justified.

Monitor for GTX 1080, budget around €600 (can stretch depending on value/price plateaus)?

Current ideas:
AOC-s 1440p144Hz IPS for ~620
Acer 1440p144Hz IPS for €540
or 34" LG 1080p ultrawide 60Hz ~€400
or 29" LG 1080p ultrawide 75Hz ~€250
or 27" LG 1080p 75 Hz ~€220?

Schoolwork, gaming, mostly "muh cinematic" WoW, AAA games, bit of overwatch, no csgo, no dota, no lol (i.e. not interested in hertz for competitive advantage, but if it really looks better for AAA games too, then why not)
>>
>>62196832
Oh ok. So does the i3 or the 8GB actually limit you in what you're doing?
An SSD would be a relatively cheap and easy upgrade that makes a world of difference to everyday usability, I'd definitely go for that at least.

I've had a few problems in some games with ram because I like to leave a lot of things going at once. Hoping the ram will give some more freedom.
I think the i3 has caused a few problems with games. I've gotten a lot into Arma the past year and I think that's been impacting it. Worried I might see that impacting more newer games in the next year, but I'm debating whether if its worth or if I can hold out for another year. atm the only newer game I'm looking at is Destiny 2, which has the i3 as the minimal requirements.

Definitely going to pickup a ssd. Just a 250 gb one should be enough for me as I don't keep a lot of games installed at one time.

You can get a 1060 6GB for ~$250 I think. Or a 3GB for ~$200 or a bit less, which is worth it at that price point.
