Has anyone bought one of these and installed Linux on it?
I know "botnet" but they aren't that pricey, can run linux, and have nice 3:2 displays
I'm actually typing this on an old c720. Is there a Linux distro that mimics Chrome OS
>>62179172
chromium os
why 3:2
>>62179792
Why not? 3:2's better than 16:9 and 16:10

I just didn't know that was even a res. Wouldn't 4:3 be the more common non-widescreen choice?
Not complaining anyway the aspect ratio in the OP looks good.

Sure but it doesn't really need to be a common aspect ratio, it's a first party device intended to run a first party OS. As long as they can source a panel it doesn't matter.

Holy shit are you me?
Been using this piece of shit C720 because I couldn't be bothered to ship my desktop across the world (studying abroad for a year) and I got it at a garage sale for $40. The 2gb of RAM really fucking shows. I've gotten used to not being able to have anything running in the background while I browse the web. Luckily it runs OpenMorrowind fine.
I suggest flashing the BIOS and getting GalliumOS. It's based on Xubuntu and specifically made for the Chromebook hardware, literally just werks.
I have a really cheap chromebook (pic related) running arch linux on it. It runs completely off a microSD. It has an rk3288 SoC. I haven't gotten the gpu to work correctly yet, so X is still software rendered. 720p h264 high videos can be played with almost no frames dropped in mpv. Overall I can do about 80-90% of what I do on my normal Laptop on this one.

This looks comfy. I want a 3:2 laptop.

you can not overwrite the eMMC flash of a chromebook

I think this would be a great laptop to fit my inferiority complex.
