I saw that you could force disable RAID controllers and set them to JBOD only mode using BSD kernel params.
Not sure what trickery they pull to make it work.

What is the advantage if I was to go for BSD instead of gnu/linux? Practical sense, I mostly read stuff and write stuff, so I do not require some oddly specific software to run on it.

Is anyone using the pfSense 2.4 release candidates yet? I'm eager for that to come out because it's based on FreeBSD 11 (instead of 10) and is supposed to have much better wireless support. How stable is it?
