It's not more secure for general use, it's just a placebo at this point.
>>
Linux is more secure because it's mostly used by non-retarded people. If it ever becomes popular, it can be considered only slightly more secure than faildows.
>>
>>62138279
o no /g/ on suicide watch!!!!
>>
Linux isn't secure as much as it's not insecure. Most operating systems aren't as insanely designed as Windows is, even nonfree ones.
If you need real time security analysis software running on your home computer, something is wrong. Very, very wrong.
>>
It makes my peepee more feminine when I use a tiling window manager
>>
>>62138340
What do people exactly mean when they say it's more secure? Is it because niggerware devs don't invest time developing malware for Linux? Is it because it's harder to develop malware for Linux? Is it because no one uses Linux so no one develops malware for it? Is it because Linux users are so smart that none of them get infected?
A mix of everything?
>>
>>62138386
Linux already gets tons of attention, it is also the main OS for servers pretty much everywhere. Even Microsofts own pages run on Linux.

As to why there is less malware i think one big point is in how you actually get it. Trying to get malware upstream to big repos past maintainers can really be a difficult one.
>>
>>62138386
The main reason is that most users never have to steer away from the official repos, which supply tested and (mostly) safe software.
>>
win10 glitched out on my laptop, win7 works fine but im not about to pay for that shit. currently running ubuntu, it's aight.
>>
>>62138279
Windows has literal spyware bundled with it at this point.

Fucking shills.

Try to get a virus in linux. It's possible but see if you can do it. If you're a windows user, you're familiar with malware and viruses. Try to get a linux desktop infected. It'll take some work and some study for the novice. You'll have to be better adept at linux than just installing and using mint or ubuntu.
>>
>>62138279
It's not more secure for illegal use.
>>
>>62138800
You are spreading b.s.. if you really want to look at malware go look at the recent news on threatpost. Generally I have seen more issues with Linux in the past couple of months than any other.
>>
>>62138800
Just because test operating system is free doesn't mean it will have the same support for patching and maintaining it in a quick manner. You see exploits go around for months without being handled by various distros.
>>
>>62138800
At this point it is a given fact that no operating system is completely secure. It doesn't really matter. It is more so important how your network is setup and who connects what and how. The main vector for these threats mostly come from routers, satellite c n cs, or third party government interception with basically all isps. Speaking of that how do you feel knowning that everyone vulnerable.
>>
>>62138279
Not resource intensive and don't have to pay for licensing
>>
>>62138800
>If you're a windows user, you're familiar with malware and viruses.
I think the last experience I had with malware on windows was blaster
>>
>>62138279

It's about market share. If only .05% of computers are running Linux, why would a sottomite take the time to write a virus for it? More efficient to target an OS with a large share.

Linux is mostly used in servers, you'd typically attack a server through holes in it's security. Malware is more about tricking people into downloading and installing stuff.

>Don't invest time making malware for linux
Yes, but there are reasons for that.
>Harder to develop malware for?
Yes. The basic structure of Linux is that it requires user permission to install software that originated somewhere else. This means that drive-by downloads aren't really a thing.
>No one uses linux
Very true. Smaller userbase means smaller potential profits
>Linux users are so smart that none get infected
More that they tend to know more about computers, so they're harder to trick with fake AV, less likely to pay money to ransomware, and more likely to just re-install everything whenever they suspect a rootkit or worm.

The other thing that nobody's mentioned is that Linux distros are normally free/open source. Users are more likely to shy away from any proprietary software. Good luck tricking people to install your open source malware. Hell, even the vulnerabilities LInux has are more likely to be patched faster than Microsoft or Apple, which makes it even harder. Linux malware is too much of a hassle to code when you can just target Windows users, or try to gain unauthorized access into poorly configured linux servers.

>>62138520
Also this.

Can't get any malware on Temple OS anon.

the fuck
>>
>>62138279
Linux distros are so diverse that malware would work on some and not in others, contrary to Windows that is same shit since 2000/2001 with things added on top.
>>
>>62138279
Depends on how you define security. Safe from Viruses compared to Chromebooks or Windows 10? Arguably. Safe from prying eyes of the government/corporations that own the OS? Linux wins, hands down.
>>
>>62143795
It isn't much harder to trick an idiot into running malicious program on linux than it is on windows. And no, something like wannacry wouldn't require you to provide root password since it would work without it. And yes, even if it did it would be easy to trick the idiot into actually typing the password.
>>
>>62144134
>implying chromeos and windows aren't viruses themselves
>>
>>62138279
>It's not more secure for general use
You could make an operating system deliberately designed to be as insecure as possible, and it would STILL be more secure than Windows for general use.
>>
>>62144158
Care to elaborate?
>>
>>62143497
You are constantly downloading random shit off the internet and running it. It's called web pages, surprise-surprise.
>>
>>62144134
How would you get a virus on linux tho?
I mean 99% of porn websites target windows users.
Majority of linux users get their software compiled from trusted repositories or compile stuff themselves.

I can only it can happen and will rise with Linux gamers as the library develops and more poor fags will pirate, it'll end up mixed in these cracked games.
>>
>>62138279

This is what wincucks actually believe.
>>
>>62144158
you could make any OS and it will be more secure, because people who target desktop users will never choose OS with 2% market share, and you will never hear about linux getting hacked because its always happen with servers and no one cares about that
>>
Good
>>
>>62144322

I know you wincucks actually believe that bullshit, but the reality is there are fundamental flaws in the design of windaids that are now ingrained into the usage patterns of it's idiot users.

True but it suffers from mental instability.

Linux has huge security holes only discovered years after they've been exploited by hackers and governments.

There have been several examples in recent years. IT'S NOT SECURE AT ALL.
>>
>>62145207
Do you actually think nobody knows any zero day vulnerabilities for Windows that don't get revealed?
Just look at stuxnet. Four zero day vulnerabilities.
