Mobile operating systems are good for content consumption, but not for creating content. Try doing productive work on a mobile device, it's not that easy to do. Termux is probably the best thing around that makes mobile devices usable.

It's getting worse with attempts to dumb down mobile devices. Android tries to make sd cards pretty much useless since kitkat unless you can root your device, which is getting harder. It also tries to hide away the file system, most devices don't even come with a pre-installed file manager, and they just have a "documents" app.

Tablets are comfy bed techs, I have Nexus 7 that I use to read books, and sometimes watch a movie, the social media apps with push notification are handy.

Laptops however have replaced desktop since you can get all-in-one system that will help with your daily needs, unless you're pro-gamer, or you use resources intensive applications then you'd get a desktop anyway.

Tablets will replace paper. I have a Galaxy Tab A 9.7" with Stylus support and it is fast and easy to write and draw with it, especially equations.

I'm using my Nexus 7 (2012) fpr almost 5 years now to browse internet, read comics or books and watch movies in bed, that's about it. If I need any serious work done I will either use a laptop or a desktop PC, nothing beats those in productivity.

Mine lagged a lot too after the 5.0 update, downgrading to 4.4.4 helps a lot. It's not ideal but if you don't use a lot of newer apps that require newer versions of Android it's worth a try.
