I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition in 2013. Google Edition was one of like 4 or 5 abortive efforts on Google's part to signal better support and longevity. Within a year or 2 they basically stopped supporting it. Meanwhile, the iPhone from the same year has been getting all of the updates Apple has put out since then.

It's one thing for a phone to get slower with each major release. It's another to be running an old operating system with unpatched vulnerabilities because I'm waiting for Samsung or Google to get around to porting their latest update to my device.

And this is saying nothing of the poor signaling for when a device will *stop* getting updates. Maybe someone who hasn't given up on Android has a better sense of this, but from my view there's no device in Android land that I'm more than 80% confident will still be supported 4 years after launch. And if I'm buying a phone at launch, I'm essentially making a bet on that. That's horse shit.

Long time Android user here, I'm making the switch to the iPhone 8

I've used phones from Sansung to LG to HTC and sitting on my Nexus 6P since launch has been nothing but absolute headaches and searching forums for how to fix bug X,Y or Z.

I'm sick of these battery draining bugs, lagginess and this phone is running latest and greatest pure stock android (So over-rated). I'm sick of not being part of iMessage group chats, failing MMS messages, having to rely on 3rd party apps because the stock clock app or reminder (Keep) are just hideous. No continuity with my Macbook Pro, No first party accessories, no customer service, no store I can just walk in with a problem (Have you tried dealing with Huawei or Google? What a joke).

I can't wait till the iPhone 8 launches, I left them the same reason you did - I just simply got bored and outgrew it a while ago, I liked tweaking Android devices but now I'm a grown up with a full time job I don't care nor have the time to spend staring at my phone home screen and making it as "miniamlist" as possible. I just had to factory reset my 6P and left everything stock because I'm not bothered anymore. I just want a phone that is reliable, does the job and won't eat away at my battery making the phone obsolete after just one year of ownership.

All of this is to say that it should be pretty uncontroversial that people prefer iPhones over Android phones given that Android phones are relatively unpredictable about support going forward. Some of this is unfairly associated with them based on the history of chintzy Android devices that were unsupported 6 months after launch and which were never really supported in the first place (or which were numerous differently supported phones at once, like the Samsung Galaxy S aka the Captivate aka the Vibrant aka the Fascinate aka the Epic aka the Stratosphere aka the Indulge aka the Galaxy Proclaim aka the Infuse aka the Aviator aka a dozen asian variants).
