>>
The amount of brainlets on this board amazes me.

Why do people still want headphone jacks? Because bluetooth sucks ass and theres no viable alternative thats why. The wireless headphone space blows. They've grown complacent and haven't been driven to innovate. Apple removing the headphone jack puts a fire up companies asses to innovate and fill the space. Inevitably other companies will copy Apple and the motivation will be higher.

Companies realize that phones have already hit their pinnacle and less people are buying new phones for what are minimal upgrades. So companies are trying stupid shit and hoping in vain that something catches.
>>
>>62098349
Exactly my point. That's why we need another standard.
>>
>>62099424

we do its called apt x and it does wireless 16bit lossless and sony has ldac which does wireless 24bit lossless

its just apple didnt invent it or want to pay to licence it with their billions of dollars so no standard for (You)

apple are real cunts with audio standards: see the great flac dis (alac)
>>
>>62098349
The other thing I don't like is how companies are removing the headphone ports in favor of Bluetooth headphones. It either forces you to buy a Bluetooth headset or it forces you to buy a stupid adaptor wire to use regular headphones which looks like shit.

Give consumers the option of either or right out of the box. It's not like you'd can't have both Bluetooth capabilities and a headphone port.

Xiaomi: Mi5, Redmi Note 3, Mi4i, Redmi 2

seriously, whenever i'm home my phone stays on my desk, and it keeps plugged in charging while i sleep. i would listen to music on the way to college or while i have nothing to do there but i mostly don't use my headphones. whenever i need to transfer data to/from pc i use an app called "sharelink" that allows you to transfer stuff without cables. for me it's a good thing to have only one port for both data and headphone because it is one less component that might need repairs. the only problems seems to be that most headphones, at least here in brazil, are P2 plug because that used to be the standard, but as soon as phones with only usb c port and no P2 start to get popular we'll find usb c headphones in every corner.

Good luck doing this next year. I'm willing to bet that after this year, there will be no phones on the market that offer a headphone jack. Also, can we talk about how ridiculous the prices are getting for smartphones? The Note 8 is upwards of $900, the projected starting price for the new iPhone is $999, and the Essential Phone is $700. This is the real current state of smartphones.

I don't think that will be the case. There will always be phones that have a 3.5mm port. The flagships from the main companies though? that's a maybe.

Prices are fucking ridiculous now. They're just seeing how far they can push it and retarded consumers are telling them $1000 for a phone is A-OK.

I would be interested in the Note 8 but I won't support that kind of shit. Redmi Note 4 it is.

I just ordered an Xperia XZ Premium. $672 AUD on ebay using some discount code.

I had considered buying a Pixel XL at one point, the lack of a MicroSD card reader made me a bit apprehensive, but as soon as I saw the price there was no way I'd buy it. Phones that cost about half as much had similar specs.

http://www.gsmarena.com/justin_meizu_pro_7_plus_handson-news-26867.php

Quick tldr from what I've seen so far though. Helio X30 has faster CPU than SD821, Slower GPU,
The second screen serves always on display or as a camera or music control.
Pretty good camera.
Average battery life.
Good audio quality.
Etc.

If you want a good Meizu that's not too expensive there's the Pro 6 plus which is using the Exynos 8890 instead of Snapdragon or Helio.
>>
>>62097099
In Apple ecosystem it's even more ridiculous. Their new Macbook Pros are better suited with Android phones than iPhones because of usb c & headphone jack.

macbook
>headphone jack
>usb c

iphone
>no headphone jack
>proprietary lightning

google pixel
>headphone jack
>usb c
>>
>>62097099

what phone is that?!
>>
>>62107296
USB-C supports analog output, so you can use passice usb-c on jack adapters, or just buy usb-c headphones.
It's different for lightning, which doesn't support analog output, so you'll always need active adapters with a DAC built in.

USB-C is vastly superior to headphone jack.
>>
>>62111457
>USB C is superior to 3.5mm
Then why don't phones have 2 of them? Could it be because it's not superior for audio and it's just cost cutting? With extra profit on the side from proprietary adapters like HTC is doing.
>>
>>62111555
Not him, but I would say partly cost cutting, partly space saving. They'd rather you pick up a splitter than pay for 2 USB-C ports.
>>
>>62111555
I'm sure there are scumbag companies will try to rip you off with this, but the fact that usb-c is a vastly superior standard to the headphone jack still stands.
You get twice the plug cycles, a smaller port that's less of a dust magnet and it supports way more stuff than the jack, while fulfilling the purpose of the jack perfectly.

My phone does have 2 USB-C Ports btw., it's a Moto Z with turbopower mod. One for charging, other one for whatever you like.

What exactly did htc do?
>>
>>62111641
HTC made their u11 and ultra phone with no 3.5mm port and you need to use their proprietary adapter or it refuses to put out audio through any third party adapter.

Also only a single type c port.

>>62113228
well apparently it won't work because HTC fucked up and doesn't output analog over the type-c port, but digital and there's the DAC inside the dongle.

In short they simply fucked up, like HTC usually does. Their motive was most likely that of a merchant though.

For example the Moto Z puts out analog audio.
>>
>>62111457
>vastly superior
Not really.
>>
>>62113355
name one thing the headphone jack can do better than the analog pins of USB-C
muh dongle is not an argument, as there'll be only USB-C headphones in the future, you won't need a dongle and there'll be new cables for your Ultimate Ears with USB-C plug.
>>
>>62106040
>Honestly, I would be okay with losing the 3.5mm jack if they packaged the phone with a type C jack headphone instead of trying to shill bluetooth.
This.
You wanna phase out 3.5 on phones, because usbs are universal and better?
Then give us universal headphones, and youll see that shit explode.

>>
>>62113614
The jack/port is such a minor cost factor, that it isn't even worth considering.
Of course it's nice that you can still use a 50 year old headphone, but you can just solder a USB-C port on those as well, if you can't be bothered with adapters.
It'd be also nice if I could use an old DIN 5 connector keyboard on my PC, but I can't. I have to convert it first, even if it still speaks the PS2 protocol.
Old standards die eventually and when they do, one side has to start.
>>62113667
Well, since all headphones can be converted easily on USB-C I don't get why you would be unable to use them as of now.
>>62114433
>you fucking wish, applefag.
Apple uses Lightning, which doesn't support analog out, which makes it a horrible standard for replacing the headphone jack. USB-C however supports it.
>it will be a goddamn horrible adapter era from now on
For the next three years, sure. Then you'll get nothing but USB-C headphones and if you want to use your old AMP/DAC you'll have to get an adapter from USB to headphone jack.

And it'll be a good thing, as the USB-C port is vastly superior to the headphone jack as it has literally the same functionality, while having many, many more as well.

Frankly, I hope so

>3.5mm isn't a dying standard. It's alive and well and still being used in everything that's NOT a smartphone.
for now that's true. But why do you think this won't change in the near future. Once manufacturers produce usb-c headphones, why shouldn't onboard sound switch to USB-C plugs as well, or at least support them.
It'll take longer to replace the jack on products that aren't very small like smartphones, but it will eventually happen.

And it wouldn't be a bad thing either. Imagine buying a Mainboard with 12 USB-C ports (two doubling as Thunderbolt), each one can be used for whatever you like. Monitor, audio, data, power supply, whatever.

And you won't have USB-C just on the mainboard, but on your monitors, speakers, headphones, harddrives, keyboards, mice, etc. as well.

You fucked up your mousecable? Just unplug a harddrive and you can switch.
You want to use an external harddrive, a keyboard and some headphones on the go? All you need is one cable.
You need to use a legacy device? No problem, as nearly every old standard can be passivly converted.
Also charging your phone, powerbank and laptop with the same power supply is possible

Does that really sound like something not desireable to you?
Because to me it sounds great and like a serious improvement over current standards.

Sure it'll be weird at first, especially on products with only one port, but maybe that'll change in the future as well. With continuum and shit, a Smartphone with 2 or more ports would make a lot of and this might very well become the next big thing. A smartphone powered PC would be enough for like 85% of people, if not more.

I'm not saying the 1/8" and 1/4" jacks won't ever go away. But not in the near future, either.A/V equipment have no need to change a standard standard that has served them well for decades.

And yes, having one port for everything would be great. But again, you're focusing too much on computers, where that almost already exists with current USB technology. A/V equipment have their own standards. Every field has their own standards, and they aren't all going to switch to a computer one just because it's trendy at the moment.

I don't even understand this mentality honestly. I prefer a thicker phone, too thin and it feels oddly flimsy.
I had an Xperia Play before and that was a brick, but shit was it comfortable to hold. It never bothered me

Then don't buy the newest good goy model? Chinkphones are great and older models are perfectly fine as long as you can unlock the bootloader.

At the sacrifice of some sort of internal component or the battery. Have you not seen the internal comparison shots between the iPhone 6s and the 7?

Bullshit, it's the male headphones-end that always breaks. Just like real life, the female end can usually take a pounding.

MicroUSB is the socket that breaks from normal use.
