We are making a web browser!
PREVIOUSLY: >>62065895

In the face of recent changes in Firefox and Chrome some anons were asking for a /g/'s perfect web browser, we collected the most wanted here and plan on continuing with the creation.

To contribute follow the WORK PLAN, join the IRC to ask developers for a repo, and get to programming!

No that was referring just to this indentation clusterfuck.

The parser is going to stay shit because the whole design is just wrong.
They tried to do both lexing and parsing at the same time because apparently nobody has any idea how to write that kind of thing.
>>
>>62089611
Nobody said it was going to be perfect the first time.
>>
>>62089674
It doesn't need to be perfect. But I'd expect anyone who wants to write a parser to first learn something about formal language theory.
This is what incompetence looks like.

In case people aren't aware, moonman is an actual honest to god neo-nazi symbol (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UzVqZdK1tw). Not like Pepe, not a haha joke but actually exclusively paired with messages to smash non-white skulls.

>>
>>62090521
Applications that draw directly on the framebuffer can't be used inside of screen or tmux or fbterm. You'll have to dedicate a separate TTY for the browser and one for your terminals.
>>
>>62090705
I had other impression after using ranger under screen
>>
>>62090705
I was able to successfully run elinks in tmux, it looked kinda funny, but I think I can fix it by adjusting config file.

That's fbterm using image support, not ranger using the framebuffer directly.
>>
>>62091029
Where can I get more information on this? I mean keywords to put into google, sounds interesting
>>
>>62091082
Some terminals like xterm, libvte/termite/gnome-terminal, urxvt, or certain framebuffer terminals support an extension for displaying static jpg/png/gif images instead of text in a set of cells. The most popular program for doing this is w3m.

>>
>>62099270
We're aiming for 2 weeks. Right now you can control placement, colors, images (pnm only to start). Tabs are bit harder to break up, what beyond the colors of the tabs would you want to change?
>>
>>62099296
>what beyond the colors of the tabs would you want to change?
The shape of the outline, how close they stand together. Something I've really taken a liking to in firefox is how you can disable/enable sound from tabs with the icon in it's title. So perhaps a way to customize what kind of buttons (along with their functions) a tab can have would be nice too. Of course, that's not exactly something that should be prioritized.

Wasn't one of the features the fact that you'd need external programs for most things (so no built-in video player/pdf viewer/other memes)? And no system comes without a text editor, except maybe some hyper-light embedded installation but then you wouldn't run a browser on it.

If it's incredibly complex though then of course.

What is this browser going to have over other browsers is my question. ICANN is now in the hands of the (((United Nations))) ever since obama gave it to them. Is this browser going to be for accessing decentralized server domains blockchain technology (similar to that of BitCoin) which can be found here:

https://peername.com/

Decentralized systems make information nearly impossible to take down. Is this browser just for the normies web?

>>
>>62102000
Retard question: what would make a browser able or unable to access this non-normie web?

As far as I'm aware, these usually take the shape of either alternative/additional DNS records (e.g. the .bit TLD), or utilise completely separate protocols (e.g. IPFS). The former can be accessed using an appropriate DNS server (e.g. using OpenNIC), which is normally a browser-independent machine setting, and the latter has nothing to do with HTTP and needs an implementation of the special protocol to browse.
Are you asking whether this will be an HTTP browser? The answer to that is yes, I don't think anybody here is setting out to reimplement all the alternative protocols out there.

No thanks, I don't give a shit about your project, desu. I just can't stand seeing such horrible design.
To whoever made the current website:
The CSS code isn't badly written. You clearly know some good practices.
The problem is that your eye for design is so bad I LITERALLY am not sure if I'm being baited with this design or not. Either way, doesn't matter if I'm falling for bait. It's nice to write some simple CSS.

body
{
margin: 0;
background: #111;
color: #777;
font-family: 'Open Sans', Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
a
{
color: #eee;
text-decoration: none;
transition: .1s all;
}
a:hover
{
color: #aaa;
}

#headBar
{
background: #222;
padding: 1em;
}
.logo
{
color: #eee;
display: inline-block;
margin: 0 .5em;
}
#content
{
padding: 1em;
max-width: 98%;
box-sizing: border-box;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 77em;
}
.irc
{
font-weight: bold;
}
.contentBox
{
margin: 1em 0;
border-radius: 2px;
overflow: hidden;
}
.boxHeader
{
background: #234;
padding: 1em;
color: #eee;
font-weight: bold;
text-transform: uppercase;
font-size: 1.3em;
}
.boxContent
{
background: #222;
overflow: hidden;
padding: 1em;
}

Here's a replacement for basic.css. Your HTML skills could use a bit of honing, and if you'd have done a bit better job at it, I could've made some definite improvements (in the header, for example). But now I cba. I seriously suggest you use this, at least until (lel, never gonna happen) you get an actual designer.

P.S. Remove that absolutely awful background from the logo. And maybe add some meme-styling to it, like the "R" part being gray instead of black.

If the retrotech one is original, then yes, the original's colorscheme absolutely sucks ass.
And so does the current one's too.

The original is so bare - (and I say this with the knowledge that you /g/-autists "like" bare websites because you can't understand/handle the more extravagant ones) - that it doesn't really have a theme. It doesn't convey that your browser/project has a face. It's just a bit of plain text with some awful colors.

I'm not saying you need to add Bootstrap and jQuery to it, I'm saying that even with just pure self-made HTML & CSS, you could at least have a website that builds an imago. That shows what your project is about, through visual means, instead of purely literary means.

>>62114841
This design I whipped up in 15mins is still very unoriginal and plain, but it's at least closer to what a project's website should optimally be like.

It's not

enough, but at least it's not eyerape. Somebody should make something that's both retro and good-looking, but until then, I think the grey one is better.

But in the end it really doesn't matter as the website is not essential to the project. As long as it's usable, the kind of people who would download or contribute to netrunner are unlikely to also be the kind of people who would care too much about the design of its website.
