Anything with a Wacom digitiser. Recent N-Trig ones ain't bad either, but do need a battery in the stylus.

>Also, is it possible to use a tablet with a desktop computer for input the way you might use a wacom or whatever?

For a regular windows/android/iOS tablet not really. There are remote desktop solutions that kinda work, or if you don't mind spending a huge amount there's the Wacom MobileStudio Pro which does work nicely as it turns into a monitor+proper graphics tablet when plugged into a desktop.

DO NOT activate it using KMS. You are trying to escape the American botnet by... joining the Russian botnet? Yeah, nah.
Go to eBay and search Windows LTSB key, price is like 15 dollars but if you are like you can get it for 12. If you just want a key for pro you can get it for like 2 dollars.
Do not use any anti-win10 saying tools, that shit breaks the OS. 99% of people complaining they have issues with windows 10 is because they install that crap. If needed, install a Ubuntu on a secondary partition for "muh privacy" stuff like checking your bank account and leave w10 for games.

Job is having me set up the security cameras they got in but I've never done anything like this before and I'm supposed to just "figure it out" because I mentioned I had an interest in computers once upon a time. Lol. Hoping someone here has some experience doing this and can give me some advice.

They're PoE IP cameras which all need to be connected back to the central NVR which is located over 100m away from almost all the cameras so I figure I'll use about 90m of CAT5e cable coming out from the NVR's PoE ports, and then use a PoE media converter kit which switches over to coax and will let me go for another 500m (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing the distance differs based on the manufacturer) before then having to take the second part of the media converter in order to go from coax back to CAT5e (up to 90m more if necessary) and power the cameras from the NVR.
Can someone just double check my logic here? Also, if everything seems correct, could someone recommend me a high quality PoE to coax media converter? All the ones on Amazon have terrible or no reviews or look like cheap junk and the "official" looking ones on big manufacturer's sites don't list prices and don't have reviews either.

>Inb4 use fiber
Too expensive and doesn't deliver power over the medium. Can't be bothered to run electrical cords to each individual camera.
>Inb4 using a switch
Even if I put a switch at the halfway point between the NVR and the furthest camera, the distance between the switch and devices would still be too much to use just CAT5e by itself. I'd have to use three or maybe four switches in order to use CAT5e exclusively but that's not really feasible as the switches would need to be placed in an inconspicuous location and unfortunately the space for that just isn't there.

What are the main factors in how long it takes a video game to load? Assuming you have an SSD (which I'd assume means you completely remove the storage bottleneck), is it just RAM and CPU speed that determines it?

Having an SSD doesn't completely remove the storage bottleneck, it is still the limiting factor. If you were to put your game on a RAMdisk instead, then yes, it would be just RAM and CPU speed determining your load times. As well as whether your RAMdisk driver is multithreaded or not.

Webm for Retards is registering frames and times at a different point than MPC. Anyone with a clue why?

This makes it a bitch to trim videos, since I've always used MPC to find the frame easier.

I would get a second opinion from other video players (VLC, mpv, etc) and see where the "majority vote" falls on frame interpretation. Jumping to a very specific frame # should always yield the same result, after all.

On another note, if the videos in question use Matroska with OP/ED videos stored separately, it could be that webm for retards isn't supporting that feature properly. In that case, you would need to take the frame count from for example the OP and subtract it to get the frame # for the video you're ripping from.

Depends what's provided on the port anything more than just a basic USB 2.0 interface is optional.

On a laptop DisplayPort mode is often supported for hooking up a monitor. On some Alienware machines PCIe mode is supported for external GPU.

On cellphones you often don't even get faster transfers.

Depends what platform you're talking about.

AMD Bristol Ridge is the only current one with 12 PCIe from the CPU, which is 8 going to the main PCIe slot, 4 going to the chipset which provides 4, 6 or 8 PCIe out.

There are no 12 lane cards.

Is dual channel ram a meme?

Like I get that there is a *slight* performance boost when using dual channel, but I've been told on multiple forms that it's better to run 2x8GB's in dual channel rather than 2x8GB's in dual channel + a single 4GB ram card. No matter the status of dual channel, 20GB should be better than 16GB, right?

Am I retarded, or is dual channel just a meme?
>>
>>62077242
I was just using a hypothetical.
So, i use a real example. I plan to get a 1080ti that uses 16 and i was thinking of the 1600 which has 16.
By what you said, the main lane wouldn't get 16 so i could easily still add a 1 labe expansion card or whatever and wouldn't be losing anything over what was already lost?

Yes I considered this and offsetting it from the OP frames, it was still inconsistent.

Well whatever, I just converted a large chunk into a webm and then used that webm as a basis for the trim. I think that particular video file is just fucked somehow.

I do this A LOT with unsorted porn pictures.

First, I would download Visipics and run that to get rid of duplicates.

Then, in order to add tags, preview them, etc, you can do this through Windows file explorer by enabling the "Details pane". To edit the name, F2 is the hotkey to rename the actual file.

To sort them to other folders, I would create a tagging system so when you're done, you can search for "specific tag" in the search and then just move all of them to the correct folder.

I'm not sure of an "all in one" program, but that's how I sort through thousands of pictures monthly and I haven't had a problem in years.

Can anyone explain why smaller resolutions can run at higher-refresh rates?

I'm running one of those Korean monitors with no scaler, it's native resolution is 2560x1440 at 60Hz. It can be overclocked to 110Hz without issue at 2560x1440, but if I try to get it to run at 3820x2160 above about 80Hz, I just get a black screen with flickering. At about 5120x2880 the best it will do is 45Hz I think. If I go significantly higher than either of those the Nvidia control panel just says it's not supported. The card is a 1080Ti if it matters.

I don't really understand why? Since I have no scaler, the GPU is performing the scaling I'd have thought. Doesn't that mean that all the images leaving the card are downsampled/upsampled ones that end up 2560x1440 as they leave the card? Thus, it shouldn't be limited by the bandwidth of the DVI-D interface, or the capabilities of the monitor? Or maybe I'm not understanding how image scaling works.
>>
>>62077587

It's Windows 10 Creators Update and the tagging system works. Tagging system works and I use it to give the picture a tag that's just the model name and when I'm done I just search for said models name in the folder search and then move them to the applicable folder.
>>
>>62077627

Vista had it, it was just janky as fuck.
>>
>>62077278
Ryzen 1600 has 24 PCIe lanes on the CPU, 16 go to the main GPU slot, or if a SLI capable board can go 8 to each GPU slot. The rest of the slots are connected via the chipset, which uses 4 lanes back to the CPU.

>By what you said, the main lane wouldn't get 16 so i could easily still add a 1 labe expansion card or whatever and wouldn't be losing anything over what was already lost?

Correct. Adding a card into an x1 slot won't affect the GPU slot on any current mobo.
>>
>>62077627
Try it. The tagging system in 7 is garbage.

Some file you just can't tag. It's not clear what decides this, file type or what. You can't tag multiple files at once either iirc. And it certainly isn't a quick or easy process. I remember trying it and hating it a long time ago.

>>62077640
Data rate = resolution * refresh rate. The limiting factor is how well the receiver can decode the incoming data.

Qnix QX2710.

I've took it apart before and there's nothing in there bar a PCB for the brightness controls and the panel itself, I'm not sure what a 'receiver' is, I'm not super knowledgeable on monitors. If I disable GPU scaling at any resolution other than 2560x1440 it just runs a bunch of test screens, and it won't accept anything other than DVI-D.
>>
>>62077228

Bumping this.
>>
>>62077745
The DVI to panel interface chip.

If the scaling is for sure happening in the GPU it may be the GPU's display engine that's the limiting factor.

video thumbnails are typically generated by rendering a frame part way into the file
you can do this with ffmpeg, for example, to generate a jpeg of the frame at the 10 second mark, do;
ffmpeg -ss 10 -i file.mkv -vframes 1 cover.jpg

well I was looking for a humor thread or a fuck my shit thread but non seem to be on this board, so ill post it here.

this image is of an OLD old computer, the image is of a hdd that wanted to die.

so, if anyone is interested, the sata cable that came with the drive was fucked, and when it fucked itself it went into pio mode, and this is the performance, outside of pio mode it would be going 120~ mb read. The drive itself wasn't long for the world as it also failed on me, click of death that I was able to thankfully pull all the data off it before it gave up the ghost, but the cable through testing on 2 different drives was the culprit in performing so fucking bad.

Just a fun bit of history I came across when going through old images.

No matter the status of dual channel, 20GB should be better than 16GB, right?
It's literally double the bandwidth. So if at any point you're bottlenecked by RAM, it should be a SIGNIFICANT performance boost.

And more RAM only improves performance noticeably if you would run out otherwise.

I want to make an Android client app for my no-name carrier that shows my data usage in pretty bars with percentages.
I know Java, but I'm not sure how I'm going to handle logging in. I don't know how to word it, but I think want to make a POST request to their login page and handle it that way. I'm not sure how to do this though, and I'm even less sure what to do if the login is accepted. Is there some kind of HTML parser I could use to basically grab the information I want? I feel less confident the more I type so I'll stop here.

I know ultimately it's not very different to just logging in through a browser but that's not the point.
Any advice is appreciated

i don't know enough to tell you everything you might need to know, but i do know how "logging in" works
you post your login details, and the server gives you[r browser, typically] a cookie, which identifies your session. with the cookie, you can then access things on the server which require you to be "logged in" (or more accurately, require you to posess a valid session cookie)

if it can only get into recovery, it at least means something is wrong with /system, perhaps an interrupted rom update
it doesn't mean it's unfixable, it might just need a new rom flashed to it
assuming that is the case, then installing something like lineageos is done as per normal, there's no need to have a functional rom already installed

put in in circuit,
understand the circuit
does it produce switching?
easiest just to look on the back side of it when powered up (the side you expect to allow the current to flow) and see if it matches another pin but at a different voltage.

both high is good, both low is good, and switching together is good

or it could be of inverse and one high one low always is good as long as they swap. also check the ground pad reference is good, it might be on a higher voltage like between a 12 and 24 because that way when either rail fails in the system you drop everything

often recovery and system are both on the same physical flash memory chip, so recovery being functional is a good sign, but it doesn't prove anything on it's own
i'm assuming it's being sold cheaply as the owner is assuming it's broken, so installing a rom before buying it probably isn't a good idea

to be clear, it doesn't prove the system partition area is good, just that the chip itself at least isn't totally dead

>>
>>62081078
There's nothing for it I'm afraid to tell you. One of the biggest issues a lot of us are facing at this point is that the flash memory has simply shit the bed. It was never good product to begin with and for a while they didn't even have TRIM support. That might still be haunting you (even though IIRC it was added in Jelly Bean) so look up online how to do a pass with LagFix.

It's also just underpowered for the times. Only 1 GB of RAM with the weak Tegra 3 that disappointed us on the Ouya too. No ROM is going to solve that. The one thing I can say is to never turn it off. Not only is boot atrociously long, but it's slower than cold molasses for a good 30 minutes afterward.

worst case you just just try to sell it off as "for parts" to make back some of the cost if it really is broken, the screen seems to work, which is a commonly saught-after replacement part

actually fixing it probably won't be worth it though, as that would mean a replacement mainboard, which is the single most expensive part of any tablet

a. immediately (died before it reached you)

>>62082114
I'd say the most likely thing is that you misconfigured your vpn somehow and you've been downloading torrents from your real ip address. I don't really know how to test that theory besides running your own p2p tracker on a vps though.

So I opened up the PSU on it and was greeted by a burnt smell. The fuse was burnt but even worse was that it looks like a resistor have burnt as well.

Heres a pic I found on the net of someone having the same issue. The burnt resistor on the pic is the same as the one on my unit.

I guess at this point it's safe to assume it's dead?

>I don't know anything about github
github is a place to host source code and track changes to it. It comes with a bunch of features that are helpful when lots of people work on the same project simultaneously.

>but github says that "all checks have failed".
github doesn't do checks. The checks come from Travis CL which is a site that offers a way to automatically run tests on everything "committed"/uploaded to a specific github repo.

>Will this code not be included then, until the checks pass?
Depends on why the checks failed. The person who wrote the checks would be able to understand them more but it looks like a bunch of specific test downloads failed.

>Is this a normal wait time?
Depends on the project. Sometimes changes take years to get included into the main branch of the code.

>A "pull request" is basically someone offering code to be included in a project, right?
In git you can use the command "pull" to include changes into your code. A pull request on github means someone changed your code and is asking you if you want to "pull" it into your version. The owners of the repo get a chance to inspect the changes, comment on them, assign people to work on them, etc. The owners have done nothing with this request. Likely they're ignoring it. The fact that it failed checks might have something to do with that.

the physical flash will be 256GiB, but usable space will be less due to reserved space internally for use as spare blocks to elongate the life of the drive
>For example i have this spinner which is 500GB on paper but at the end of the day in windows explorer it effectively is shown as having only 465GB free
a 500GB will actually have 500GB of usable space (usually slightly more, in fact), the confusion for hdds is due to the fact that there are two definitions for a gigabyte
the disks are advertised with a gigabyte being 10^9 bytes (the literal meaning of "giga-")
but computers typically define it as being 2^30 bytes (computers use base2, not base10, natively, this is a little larger than 10^9)
the "465GB" you see is actually using the base2 definition, and, when converted to the base10 definition, is actually 500GB, you aren't missing any space

Are there any actual laptops that are good for programming? My budget is around $800. I bought a nice Chromebook to put Linux on, but it turns out that the people developing a Chromebook-centered-distro don't know how to get internal audio working on the thing, plus dual-booting means that every time the Chromebook boots, it prompts the user to factory reset the Chromebook by pressing spacebar. It's fine for now, but I'd really like to upgrade to something a bit more... useful for my computer science classes.
I need a laptop specifically because we're supposed to program in a computer lab, but we can't use the computers because student accounts can't access the command prompt or some shit. I dunno. I slept through the first lab. Otherwise, I would just bring my desktop to my dorm.
Requirements:
>Be able to handle Eclipse (Professor insists on using it and I'm too dumb to use anything else)
>Be able to have at least 10 or so Firefox tabs open (Assignments are posted to 3 different websites, jfc)
>Have zero problems with using wifi in, say, Ubuntu
>Be powerful enough to last through a college's computer science course
>Have a battery life of at least 6 hours, or have the option to buy an extended battery or something
>Durability is a plus
That's it. It could have a screen resolution of 1024x768 for all I fucking care. Just don't tell me to get the shitty touchscreen ultrabooks that all the articles about this are shilling.

i also really wish storage manufacturers would be more clear about capacities
basically every medium has at least one gotcha
for example;
cd-r: advertised as 700MB, but that refers specifically to mode-1 cd-rom, which is just one way of formatting a cd-r, interestingly, that's actually the lowest capacity format, you can, with other formats, get a bit over 800MiB onto a "700MB" cd-r (at the cost of reduced ECC), the 700MB is actually 700MiB
dvd-r: 4.7GB is accurate this time around, like with hdd's, in GiB, it's 4.38
tape: often the most prominent number in advertising is the amount of data you can store with an assumed amount of compressibility, for example, they might say "1GB", but mean "500MB with 2:1 compression". total bullshit
even non-computer things like VHS had similar things, like advertising prominently the number of minutes when recording in LP mode, rather than the normal, full quality SP mode

Should I bother building a PC? I'm having a bit of a dilemma here.

On the one hand, I want to build a PC so I can have a machine that doesn't crash when trying to record music in a DAW, and I also would like to be able to play some modern games on decent settings.

On the other hand, I don't really want to do intense research into building, and I'd rather just be spoonfed because I just don't have a lot of time to research and I really don't care enough to waste a bunch of time finding what parts to buy and how to build it and whatever.
I'm also not a ridiculously avid gamer, and there's only a small handful of modern games I want to play right now, and I can just play them on console, which I generally prefer, but there are some games I want on PC like New Vegas and a few more modern games like the new DOOM. Finally, the biggest issue is I'd really prefer to spend around 500-600 dollars. I really don't feel that I want to sink a lot of money into this unless it's going to be worth it.

So my question is, should I even bother trying to build a PC, or should I just buy a pre-built one and call it a day?

They didn't even use my home IP, they don't have access to that. They just send a message to my vps provider that a server was downloading GoT content and the provider forwarded the message to me. So to me it sounds like the film authority monitors that specific AS the provider is using and correlates the traffic.

The question still remains, is there anything I can do to further mask that traffic. I mean I could tor the internet traffic from the vps to the internet but that's just way too slow.

I'm setting up my Raspberry Pi to become an environment control for my reptile enclosure. I've got the LCD display working, displaying temperature and humidity (from both DHT22s), but it doesn't appear to be updating for each iteration.

Here's the code relevant for the DHT22s which I'm using in a loop to display to the LCD:
import Adafruit_DHT

sensor = Adafruit_DHT.DHT22
pin = 4
pin2 = 22
humidity, temperature = Adafruit_DHT.read_retry(sensor, pin)
humidity2, temperature2 = Adafruit_DHT.read_retry(sensor, pin2)

...

while True:

lcd_string("TempAmbi: "+'{0:0.1f}'.format(temperature)+"\xdfC",LCD_LINE_1)
lcd_string("Humidity: "+'{0:0.1f}'.format(humidity)+"%",LCD_LINE_2)
time.sleep(5)

lcd_string("TempCold: "+'{0:0.1f}'.format(temperature2)+"\xdfC",LCD_LINE_1)
lcd_string("Humidity: "+'{0:0.1f}'.format(humidity2)+"%", LCD_LINE_2)
time.sleep(5)

From this library:
https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Python_DHT

How do I get new readings from each iteration? Do I need to make an ugly CRON script which updates every minute (plz no)?

Second issue is with what's labeled as "R" in pic related. I'm trying to sniff out radio signals from my socket remote controller so I can switch sockets on and off. An anon tried to help me here:

The first line of commands in his second post fails, but I did manage to install rpi-rf. This is the command I'm trying, but it doesn't display anything when I press the buttons on the remote control:
sudo rpi-rf_receive -g $17

This second question is pretty critical in order to automate things like a humidifier. I already have an actual thermostat for the heating pad (probably wouldn't need that if I get this working).

Is the socket remote control simply incompatible with the rf receiver I got?

Building a PC is quite simple. At this point, all that is required is to snap together prebuilt components. You don't even need to apply thermal paste if you're so lazy, I believe most any CPU you buy will have the heatsink already attached.

I would say to go on pcpartspicker and look around a little and see if you're interested. You would most likely save a bit of money building it yourself (in terms of quality for price), and it could be a fun activity. I personally derive a lot of pleasure from knowing exactly what's in my computer and shopping around comparing different items and prices, and the little kick you get out of successfully putting it all together. You might discover you like that kind of tinkering. What can it hurt to try it out?

No idea what self shadowing is, but ambient occlusion is making holes and shit darker because less light should be able to get in there. The light sources don't necessarily create a shadow there, but it would still be darker there. I'm guessing self shadowing is some sort of technique where it creates shadows on a model or something?
John Carmack had a talk about ambient occlusion (and some other lighting stuff) at least. It's very informational, if you have an hour to spare.

It's very simple to build a PC, the most complicated part is reading your motherboard's manual to find out how to connect the front panel for your case. Everything else can only go in their respective slots one way, it's very difficult to put a PC together wrongly if you just have patience and consult the manual if in doubt.

I don't know what that shit says, but I know in my windows, sometimes the explorer doesn't updated immediately after I move files.
So try reloading the page there, see if the files are still Schrodinger.

Short filenames might help? Or something like that? Just google that, for Windows obviously. I think you should be able to find that.

Dual core will be just fine. You'll be better off spending the money on 8GB RAM and an SSD. It's a matter of diminishing returns.

is BIOS battery change a good solution for booting problems?

Only if you've had it longer then 15 years

What the fuck is this and why did it randomly pop up?

The glass is made to be used by fingerprints...

so I downloaded utorrent today for this first time in years. I thought utorrent was chill but apparently not...

there's clearly some extra bullshit that got installed with it and now i'm pretty sure there's some sketchy shit running on my computer now, everything is ever so slightly laggy and I blue screen today for the first time in probably over a decade.

is there anyway to purge this filth from my computer without re-installing windows?

If I was in your position, I'd move the router to my room even if it fucks with wifi reception a little in the opposite corners of the house.

Regarding the coax: Usually there is a master closet with all the coax (and ethernet, if your house is prewired) drops. The guy who setups your internet takes the master coax feed and splits that to whatever room you asked him to setup internet in (in this case, the center of your house) if you got cable like Spectrum.

In some cases, you'll need to reroute that master feed to the coax wire that runs to your room. In other cases, the guy who set it up put it on a splitter and ran it to multiple rooms already for you.

You could just run a ethernet cable with some cable clips if you don't have a wife/gf to complain about it.

This is why you should check the /g/ archive before installing anything.

Just restore from a previous save state, Windows has that thing where it saves your system before major installations or updates so that you can go back in case you fuck something up.

It installed a cryptominer. Try getting some free antivirus like Malwarebytes. Also going to reccomend qbittorent as an alternative.

I already tried restoring my computer to an previous date. However after it finished I still found a utorrent folder in, localDisk(C:)/programfiles.

This really disturbed & confused me

Deleted that shit along with another file that had no reason to be there. Probably from that shady DOOM torrent I downloaded.
