Why does /g/ have a knee jerk reaction to decent, well regarded hardware?

because the surface laptop doesnt have decent, well regarded hardware.

The truth is they can't afford it.
Look at majority of "purchase" bragging on /g/, it's all used cheap shit. Thinkpads. Chinkphones.
Cheap cheap cheap.
>>
>>62073794
Unironically this
>>
I don't. But what I do react to is a macbook ripoff with an irreplaceable battery, marketed as better value than the macbook despite being doomed to be replaced after 2 years.
>>
>>62072872
I don't like hardware i can't open and replace shit.
And this thing is the epitome of "you can't open me".
It needs a LOT of effort to beat apple at this game, but microsoft did it somehow.
Also the hardware sucks.

The surface laptop is garbage, something like 25% failure rate in the first year. The tablet is fine though, I wouldn't mind one for a work device.

Surely if they were so great you'd have an argument as to why they are, other than "yur poor n dum I win xD"?
>>

Yeah and that looks like an abomination compared to the one in OP.
>>
>>62073916
Coal miners also have jobs, what's your point carlos?

>>62073966
And here's an example of what I mean. Poorfags tend to lash out in envy over what others purchase, which is why we get so much shitposting about macbooks and iphones. Literally no one with good money gives a fuck. Yet here you poor manchildren are whining.
>>
>>62073991
>Looks like
This isn't /fa/.

>>62074001
Literally 99% of shitposting about shiny metal wealth signalling toys (including this thread, if you look at the OP) is created by poor people who bought something they can't afford, got buyer's remorse, and go justify it on /g/ to feel better.
>>
>>62073794
I can afford a MacBook and a Surface. I bought a ThinkPad P50 and eventually sold it because it was overkill for what I needed.
>>
>>62073794
A lot of people here buy thinkpads due it's unique feature of being able to disable the intel spy coprocessor, the so called intel ME.
You can't do that to the surface, EVEN if people discover how to do it on the hardware it carries because it is all glued together and once you open it, you can't close it again.
>>
>>62074026
N-no u aren't! Ur poor! Feel bad! I bought a Macbook with Daddy's credit card and it's all I have in my life! LIER LIER PANTS ON FIRE haha /g/ BLOWN THE FUCJ OUT

I'm a roofer who was tasked with repairing a rotten plywood section of a roof and the shingles, repainting the white trim around a 2-story house. I worked all day today for 12 hours. I get paid $20 an hour but $30 for overtime. I just made ~$300 today alone and waiting until there's a giant fucking hole in your roof seems to be growing in popularity here in new york.

I am anything but poor. In fact I haven't used my 10K credit line in over a year, I might actually cancel it soon.
>>
>>62074080
>$20/hr and $30 overtime
What fucking trade do I need to get into for that? I plan on moving Stateside.
>>
>>62074098
>$20/hr
Any
>>
>>62074098
Sign up as an assistant carpenter (most available position lately). Construction companies out there have programs for roofers.

Be warned though, bossman usually works us all to the bone. I'd recommend you at least hit the gym for a few months before you even sign up. We got a high turnover rate in our field. Also don't be scared of heights.

>>62074120
Yeah but roofing has a lot of overtime. I usually get 2-4 hours overtime during the summer and fall.
>>
>>62073857

Wasn't knocking the pay just commenting that any trade is usually starts at $20 an hour. If anon wanted to he could join any union, and get training + that pay. IIRC electricians get good start + amazing overtime. They usually have strong rep around the country.
>>
>>62074080
>$20 an hour for skilled work

Lmao, americucks, not even once.

It doesn't have an apple on it so it is by default better. It could grind up children for power and I'd rather have it than fucking apple shit
>>
>>62074190
$20 an hour isn't horrible depending where you live. When i was younger I made about that, and lived a sexy lifestyle, but I would worked horrible overtime (did a 36hr straight once).
>>
>>62074179
>>62074190
>>62074229
see >>62074140

Anyway it depends on where you live desu. In my section of newyork a 2 Bedroom apartment is just $1,400. Literally left with over $1K for food and bills each month.
>>
>>62073794
This, kind of. The thing about "affording it" though is that it only makes sense if you're rich enough to throw away thousands of dollars on frivolous purchases without caring, regardless of whether or not you have enough money to buy it (which is basically guaranteed if you take out a loan).

If you're someone who can just about reasonably afford a Macbook/Rolex/designer clothes/whatever, it's still a shit purchase because you could buy 4-5 items of similar quality for the same money. It's a poor allocation of your funds.

>>62074209

Surface is shit on so many levels.

>Consumer Reports: Microsoft Surface is Dead Last for Reliability

>The consumer advocates at Consumer Reports have delivered a stunning blow to Microsoft: The nonprofit organization has pulled its recommendations for Surface products, citing an industry-worst failure rate.

and guess who's the best...

>Apple stands out as being the most reliable laptop brand. Microsoft, on the other hand, is less reliable than most other brands. Due to its comparatively higher breakage rate, Microsoft laptops cannot be recommended by Consumer Reports at this time.

>But as Consumer Reports notes, the reliability of Apple’s laptop and tablet products are consistently the most highly rated by its readers. So whether you believe that MacBooks and iPads are innovative, they are indeed the most reliable products of their kind.
https://www.thurrott.com/mobile/microsoft-surface/132728/consumer-reports-microsoft-surface-dead-last-reliability

Then there's an issue with that alcantara cover that's non-removable and attracts dirt like crazy. Oh, and it also degrades and becomes hard as a rock after a year.

Surface is junk for literally everything.

>iFixit grades MS Surface Laptop 0/10
>The Surface Laptop is not a laptop. It’s a glue-filled monstrosity. There is nothing about it that is upgradable or long-lasting, and it literally can’t be opened without destroying it.

The irrational hatred comes from having to work with Apple devices and knowing how shit they are, plus people constantly claiming that Apple devices are stable or intuitive or not bug ridden messes.

This.

Even the people who brag about having Macbooks and shit don't show actual photographic proof. They just use images from Google.

Everyone here is dirt poor.
>>
>>62072872
Because, as far as the whole collective is concerned, you really need to hit a balance in efficiency and purpose. The surface offers neither of these in compared to other similar devices out there at a far lesser cost.

Because it's unrepairable and can't be maintenanced. It's designed to be thrown away after 2 years. Capitalism at it's finest. You buy this thing if you fucking hate your wallet. I can buy 100 of these laptops, but I'd rather just buy 1 and spent the rest of the money on travel.

Besides, the carpet cover gets dirty as fuck after a while (even if you're a clean person) and is impossible to clean.

And that mouse gives you RSI.
>>
>>62072872
Personal preference. For the same price in a thick laptop I can get hardware that's almost a generation better.

>>
>>62073794
This is simply false.
Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to waste it. I could very well buy 3 Macbooks with the expendable money I have every month, but why sould I? Why would I want a Macbook to begin with?

I got a Thinkpad and an XPS 15 for work related stuff and a desktop computer.

You do know that people who get rich don't get rich by wasting all their money on overpriced crap, do you?
>>
>>62072872
>rated 0/10 by Ifixit because unrepairable
