55 is fine. pretty good actually, tabs load a lot faster.

>2017

>not ublock origin
>>
>>62058271
55 launched as a broken piece of shit, but they patched it a day or two later. If you can update to FF 55.0.2, you should be fine.
>>
>>62060252
ublock is overkill for my uses and i hate the UI
>>
>>62060339
Not who you were responding to, but I have no idea how Ublock Origin could be "overkill." NoScript? Sure, I could see someone saying that's overkill. But not Ublock Origin.

As for the UI, you have to deal with it for, what? 3 minutes at MOST? After that, its literally just pressing an I/O button to power it on and off.
>>
>>62058271
Why does your mother look so weird on the photo?
>>
>>62060373
why switch though? noscript does the job once setup and youve got your regular sites whitelisted
>>
>>62060423
I use NoScript. That said, I could understand why tech-illiterate people would balk at using it.
>>
>>62059121
ESR?
What's the difference?
>>
>>62060502
Extended Support Release.

Basically it gets security updates for a year.
>>
>>62058271
Im on 55 and between 1-5 times a day firefox shits itself and all tabes, new tabs, old tabs, even tabs that are already loaded will display a white page with a nearly invisible loading icon. The only solution is to completely close firefox, reopen it, and reload all of the tabs again.
>>
>>62060423
uBlock and NoScript are two totally different thing. uMatrix is what you should be comparing it with NoScript.

uBlock is an adblocker and easy to use.

And if uMatrix was what you meant, then I agree that it is quite confusing to be honest but it gets easier once you actually look at it. NoScript is much easier to use.
>>
>>62060509
And after that?
Why do they want to remove the old add-ons support?
>>
>>62060580
They think its holding the browser back.

Truth be told, so long as all my add-ons are ready to go by the time 57 drops, I don't care. At the moment, its not looking good, though.
>>
>>62060560
you're probably right, whichever one has that mess of red and green boxes all over the place. its legit one of the worst UIs ive ever used on anything. TempleOS is more user friendly
>>
>>62060560
>uBlock is an adblocker and easy to use.
I'm a complete baby when it comes to this (used Adblock Plus for years with just a simple filter list).

Should any options be changed from the default uBlock Origin install?
>>
>>62060613
That's not ublock origin. Ublock Origin is even more simple than Adblock Plus. It's also open source, and modifiable if you want.
>>
>>62060632
You don't have to, but you're welcome to look around the settings and see if you want to activate or deactivate anything. If you're curious, research. If you aren't, then just leave it alone until you can be assed to be interested enough to research.
>>
>>62060591
>holding the browser back
From becoming chrome 2.0 ?
The only reason I still use firefox is because of the add-ons.
What's the alternative?
>>
>>62060660
To my knowledge, you can't have NoScript run in Chrome. FF is working with the dude who does NoScript to get it working for 57 by the time it drops, and the dude said in an interview that he thinks it will be ready by November.

So, with that logic, I guess it's a more powerful Chrome that is also faster and way more customizable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending it. I think they should put out an ESR for 56, so that the addons that aren't ready will still be able to be used while they get shit working (or so others can create an alternative), but their platform is shrinking, so they are hoping to compete with Chrome by being even better than Chrome.

I don't plan to upgrade from 56 until each and every add-on that I use is ready to go. And, at that point, it will likely be a race against Brave. Whomever gets all the extensions ready first will be what I jump to and stick with.

Is there a way to unfuck the font rendering?
>>
>>62060759
Random Agent Spoofer might help. You can spoof your User Agent. You can also limit detectable fonts.
>>
>>62058271
Now would be a great opportunity to switch to Waterfox.
>>
>>62060613
>>62060640
Yeah and that must be uMatrix. I don't really understand how to properly use it and just enabled everything when any of the websites that I frequent doesn't work at all.
>>
>>62060798
Why? What does Waterfox do that FF doesn't?
>>
>>62060580
>And after that?

By that time more and more addons will get ported to memeextensions and during this time we will not use a browser without security updates.
>>
>>62060857
I'd rather use FF56 with firejail and NoScript, flash control, UBO, an Agent Spoofer (so that it looks like I'm using Windows), Decentraleyes, and DNSSEC/TLSA Validator than FF57 without those things.
>>
>>62060713
>platform is shrinking
Because of their SJW propaganda.
Also what about old add-ons?
Things like DownThemAll?
>>
>>62060919
If that was the case, then Google's browser share would be shrinking. It's not.
>>
>>62059121
Why not esr 64 bit? Either way, good choice.

I prefer the thin lines.
Some jagged edges are much better to deal with than a blur filter smeared over everything.

After much googling it's proving rather difficult to find how to remove all the anti-aliasing and get it back to how it was.
