you don't need both, technically, but I find it easier to use both. They have different strengths, let each one do what they're good at.

Security perhaps. uMatrix won't cover all types of attack. But certainly not another ad-blocker, no.

uBlock Origin. uMatrix can't do cosmetic filtering and it blocks everything of a resource type from a domain (e.g. all scripts) whereas uBlock Origin can block only selected ones.
