CPUs:
No i5's unless cheap. Consider waiting for Coffee Lake (1 month). 8700K is certain to be the fastest gaming CPU, will be competitive in productivity tasks vs 8-core Ryzen.
>G4560 - poverty builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good bridge between the 1500x and 1200, only get a 1400 if you really need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners increased prices, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Low end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Vega is shit

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS
Consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

>This is currently the big unknown. The Bitcoin craze took half a year, but Ethereum is not like Bitcoin. The creators of Ethereum have said that they will eventually switch from their current mining model to one which based more on the ownership of the currency called Proof of Stake (yes PoS very funny). The interest decline for Bitcoin mining was do to the introduction of cheap ASIC dedicated miners that made video card mining impractical because it was so much slower. Ethereum, however, is resistant to this type of change for reasons we don’t need to go into here, but a transition to a Proof of Stake system would cause a very similar loss of interest in video cards. When this happens, you will most likely see a similar situation to mid-2014, when used GPUs flooded the marketplace.

>>
>>62053301
the stock ones are fine so you could just have a much better CPU running stock than overclocking a 1600 would have been. Btw getting the 1600x and overclocking it is a mistake because touching the clockspeed disables the extended frequency range, which is the only advantage the x even has.

Should I go with a ryzen 1600 right now or wait for this coffee lake generation?

I only have about 400-500max USD to spend between RAM/CPU/Mobo. Going for Microatx build.

Already have an H100 watercooler (dunno about compatibility), a new-ish PSU, and an RX480. Upgrading from a very old FX-8320 build.

The most taxing thing I'll do is gaming.

Coffee Lake 6c/12t is going to cost more than Ryzen 7.
Wait only if you need the extra single core performance (essentially equal IPC with 3200 memory, but Intel has a clockspeed advantage for single thread can be upto 25% faster, 4ghz vs 5ghz)
>>
So guys i got a problem
I recentrly assembled this pc (Ryzen 3 1300x, Sapphire 370 Vapor-x, Asrock Fatal1ty, 8gb of ram)
And it all worked fine, until one time every game started failing
Some games just wouldn't boot up, some booted and randomly crashed (With no message), or even Overwatch would stop working with a "Rendering device lost" error
I don't really know what to do

coffeelake is just another 14nm refresh and it's going to be overpriced. You could probably wait just to watch the lulz unfold if you're unsure. Ryzen runs very cold so it would be good for a small case. Probably won't need your cooler. You should be surprised how much better your 480 runs though.

Is ASRock bad?

I've always been under the impression motherboard manufacturers weren't too different apart from maybe their support/RMA.

Every time I look at board reviews every manufacturer has a line of boards that's either abysmal or top notch.

I've been looking at ASRock boards as well so I'd like to know.

Basically ditch 1600x because you gonna end up paying + for cooling and then be on the same price as 1700

But the 1700 has lower single core speed dunno how much that weighs in for faggot gaming compared to 1600 (x)
>>
>>62053714
Do you really need to space your post like that? And ASRock used to be bad but as of late they're alright. Check reviews as always, make sure the BIOS and stuff is alright, etc.

1700 has slightly better performance in games than 1600, but only at very high FPS, like over 120. At anything less than that they're the same. It's also improving over time,
>>
>>62053781
if you have it connected via PCIe lanes rather than SATA, it shouldn't get bottlenecked
>>
>>62053792
if all you want to do is game, it's a waste to go above the 1600X
the extra cores/threads only help with multitasking
>>

>>
>>62054394
for streaming you want the extra cores, always
look at a comparison of the 7700k vs the 1700 in streaming, its a slaughter, now imagine that but you get 25% less from the 1700 with the 1600

I don't understand the part about needing dedicated graphics when getting a Ryzen. Do I need to get one on top of the 1060/1070 I'm getting? Do motherboards normally come with one?
>>
>>62054512
Anyone who does gaming will need a proper GPU anyhow, integrated graphics a shit
I think some people may think about putting off a purchase for a bit though, hoping for a deal
You literally can't with Ryzen though, no video without a video card
>>
>>62054512
unlike intel, ryzen doesnt have a kawaii little gpu on the cpu. you will need a discrete gpu. this means that if you plan on getting a 1060, you are getting a discrete gpu
on an intel build, you could buy a gpu and just run video off of the motherboard, although you'd be retarded to do so, as you would not utilize the gpu you paid good money for

Could be a VA advertised as an IPS. Or lies all around.

Fuck, the monitor industry markets 1440p as 2K. Know what resolution 2K is? 1080p. They just didn't market 1080p as 2K, so they decided to use the 2K term for 1440p to market it by associating it with 4K.

I really want a 1030 for just doing window manager bullshit. I already have a very decent 980 Ti, that I want to do GPU passthrough with.

My problem is that most 1030's only have 2 output ports (usually an hdmi and a disaplyport) and I have 3 monitors. Is there any GPU out there just as cheap as the 1030 and as "good" with 3 or more ports instead?

Is GPU sag bad for long term?
I just got a MSI 1080ti and it had some minor sag while in the case. my turbo autism activated and I created a small GPU jack and made it level.

But I was wondering if GPU sag was even bad in the first place, like over a long period of time can the GPU just bend due to heat and die?

>pic related, its my homemade GPU support
>>
>>62062447
>Is GPU sag bad for long term?
yes. It puts stress on the motherboard, and, over time, can destroy the PCIe slot.
>>
>>62062594
Only if your motherboard is made of literal shit.
>>
>>62052640
OK, I have to point this out, i5 [email protected](this is literally nothing for this CPU,and even if you don't oc it, it has turbo that goes up to 3.8, so that's ~5% difference ) is faster than r5 1600(let's say spread is -5% in worst case and +10 % in best), in every gaming scenario(pick any GPU,resolution or game,I'm even considering famously CPU core demanding games=2 of them, PUBG now recognises 6 cores, no real performance increase).
Basically, my point is, really DO check out many sources if you considering an upgrade from i52500k,i72600k,i5 3###,i7 3770k to r5 or god forbid r3, you will be severely disappointed . And even if you are buying new PC and you are accustomed to i5 2500k speeds and up and you want at least same performance (not faster,SAME) r5 1600 is lowest you can go.
Its not any kind of Intel magic or any other nonsense, its just fact that games are developed for 2-3 years at least and sandy bridge was (probably is still) most used CPU on steam for very long time so games were heavily optimised for Intel, and games that are using positive aspects of rysen CPU probably won't be released for at least 2 years. But, here comes the kicker, when games start to appreciate ryzen 1.gen, they will be heavily outdated.
And take mining into account, building gaming pc today as an futureproof machine is totally impossible unless you go total high end.
This is the fact.

Alright outline to the basics. What you'll get is a generic functional ugooo pc. What you want to do is min max for what you really want while keeping looks in mind. Go full rgb or black or whatever the hell you want while keeping in mind what you want whether it be more fps for games or more multitask/rendering shit. Remember you're gonna keep that thing on your desk for many years. Might as well put some effort into making it look good.

>>62064395
Check your mobo size. Full size atx, mini atx, etc. Then pick a case. Pc part picker has a compatability filter so use that. Also go for the looks. Plan out what you want. Do you want a giant hulking thing with 6 fans running or do you want a more smaller compact powerhouse or you could build generic black pc with gaming stuff inside it.

Do dual monitor setups usually lag? I got a 1080 gtx yesterday (upgrade from a 970) and got a 144hz monitor as well (VG248 from Asus). Now I kept my old monitor as well (s24c300) that runs 60hz max. Im connected on the 144hz screen with a dvi and the samsung with an hdmi cable. The issue is that whenever i transfer windows between screens or just shake/resize the windows i get a ton od lag and the cpu usage goes to about 50% (i5 6600k). If I dont do anything its fine. I have the latest drivers and all that jazz. Ive also tried setting hz to 120 to match the 60hz but it only helps a little bit and the lag is still noticable. Tearing at higher resolution is much less noticeable. Honestly, I think G-sync is worth the premium if you are getting a fancy monitor (4k60 or 1440p144). For 1080p, getting G-sync seems overkill. For all you know, AMD might shit something out which is good in 2019 and then when you move to Navi, you won't have wasted 140 dollars extra on a 1080p monitor.

A lot of MOBA/"brawler" games like Battlerite, which I know the card won't have any problem maxing out. It's mostly the AAA titles I play sometimes, like Witcher 3/Nier Automota/Dark Souls/etc that I was looking at it for.

Did you mean tearing at higher refresh rates? I've only seen a 1440p monitor in person once, so I don't really know.

Higher refresher rate = more frames per seconds.
Which means the tears "flicker" appear for shorter periods of times.

If it is a 1080/144, G-sync isn't needed imo. Get sync if you are getting a more more expensive monitor. Unless you are really sensitive to tearing. Or you can't handle the "input lag" from Vsync.

That is my opinion

It is fine. Just don't overclock it too much. Monitor your temps and if it gets too hot, you can buy a 212 or H7 next month.

Which 1440p monitor should I get?

It's either gonna be
>Dell 24" S2417DG at 165hz or
>Dell 25" U2515H at 60hz

I've used 144hz for years now and I don't know whether or not switching back to 60hz is gonna be an eyesore but I also feel like that extra inch in screen size would benefit me since scaling on 1440p is going to be different.

Anyone have any experience with switching from 144hz to 60hz? Was it painful?

what middle ground? 1060 and 580 perform basically the same
>>

A lot of benchmarks show it having a pretty big gain over the 1060. But I think I'll just go with the 1070 for future proofing and more raw power for unoptimized games.

No, 580 is good for 1080p@60Hz, for 21:9 1080p you're looking at a ~40% pixel increase over 16:9 1080p. You're going to want that extra performance from the 1070, it's definitely the better choice.
