Yes/No and why
>>
>>62038126
No. It uses a non-functional package manager.
>>
>>62038135
The package manager is fine. And you can use ports.
>>
>>62038126
OpenBSD is better.
>>
>>62038160
Neither the package manager or ports are purely functional. They all require you to manage your system's state, and you can't easily switch between configurations without fucking with a bunch of packages.
>>
>>62038166
okay why?
>>
I don't care.
>>
>>62038303
Because it supports less software and hardware. Or that's what OpenBSD advocates unironically believe.
>>
Dude, Install this shit its awesome.
>It's garbage.
Fool me once, shame on me.

It's superior to Linux in every way imaginable.
>>
>>62038126
If you have to ask you should just go with linux.
>>
Rock solid for server use.
Absolutely fucking awful for desktop.
>>
>>62038126
>muh corpurashunz
>>
>>62038126
shitty maintenance, terrible package management (combining pkgng and ports), terrible security and it uses for over 2 decades the cancerous sendmail as default mta because the fagboy founder of freebsd sucks the dong of the fagboy that writes sendmail

the only positive points i can see in freebsd is more software availability, linux emulation and better/more hardware platform support.

openbsd is much cleaner in every regard.

Poop.

true shit
>>
>>62038780
What makes FreeBSD terrible for desktop use?
>>
>>62039516
No Skype.
>>
>>62039549
But that's a good thing. Nobody uses skype anymore when Facebook messenger, discord, mumble, ts, and IMs exist. Plus it's become bloated and it's literal spyware.
>>
>>62038126
FreeBSD is shit, don't bother with it. Tried it on two seperate machines and there were no wifi drivers at all.
>>
>>62039549
> Installing skype
Why would you ever pollute your system with that bloated botnet shit? You know you can use it in the browser, right?
>>
>>62038303
It works on at least the hardware that it claims to work on.
>>
>>62038126
No:
- devs that purposely leave back doors in their system
- wrong license
- hardware support which is even shittier than on Loonux
- weak software. Most of which is outdated GNU/Linux ports
Yes:
- nice filesystem
- somewhat easier to manage because it has less commands and they feel less random
>>
>>62040446
>wrong license
Chinese gov't shill just leave.
>>
Portmaster is really fun.
>>
>>62039549
I don't want Skype.
Is there anything else that makes FreeBSD a poor desktop? Because if that's all ...
>>
Having no stock DE is a good thing because different people prefer different tastes.
>>
I had some trouble with debugging on it, probably a result of using both clang and gcc in different parts of the system, which made it impractical for my use case.

Other than that, it is a pretty good system. It is systemd free and from a userspace perspective a rolling release system, paired with stable base system, which is a very interesting approach.
>>
>>62040509
No Wine
No Docker
No Steam
No drivers
Uses Linux layer to do anything
Cuck license
>>
>>62041813
systemd and coreutils is stable and not having systemd is a negative.

>>62039549
>>
>>62038126
Nope due poor hardware support. It doesn't even have support WiFi on RPi3
>>
>>62040509
>>62042546

>no wine
Wine support is equal to that of linux
>no docker
>
There are plenty.
>no steam
Use wine.
>cuck license
No more than GPL.
>>62039549
It has skype. If you dont want to use the linux emulator then spoof your user agent to windows and use web.skype.
>>
>>62038126
yes. in fact i could use it as my daily driver if it had any good graphics driver support
>>
dont fall for cuck license memefags

I would rather go with openBSD route if I were you, just research if your hardware is supported, its cleaner and more secure system overall
>>
The man pages are pretty greater than the Linux ones
There are basically 2 things that will solve any problem in BSD re assigning symlinks or sysctl vars. Which ones is another harder question.
It's more secure. They fix problems that don't even exist yet.
I like it

Why would I use FreeBSD when I could use a pure OS?

For the last time, will you Chinese agents just leave!
