What did Intel mean by this?

Is Raven Ridge kill?

no they're using the same graphics chip

No. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_HD_and_Iris_Graphics#Kaby_Lake_Refresh

Almost certainly.

Why don't they update this huge pile of shit? The GPU is literally the same since Haswell...
>>
>>62036252
There's pretty much nothing to update on the 2D side, and anyone who wants non-shit 3D performance will get discrete graphics anyway.
>>
>>62036252
Wrong, Gen9.5 is a huge upgrade over Haswell

Haswell Gen7.5 doesn't even support D3D12 FL12_1 while Gen9.5 GPU does and includes HEVC Main10 8K hardware decoding & VP9 10bit 8K hardware decoding

Don't post if you are clueless and ignorant and don't know shit
>>
>>62036252
They did, but it's still underpowered trash, and Iris only comes on $400+ CPUs which makes it fucking pointless if you want a basic build with decent graphics.

>30fps on "high" setting 780p on igpu
That's impressive desu
>>
>>62037572
kek, hell no.
>>
>>62037592
Compare it to bristol ridge which can play modern games at full hd on mid-ish settings at 60 fps for 100 bucks. That's impressive.
>>
>>62036875
The Iris Pro 5200 is Haswell, the latest one is faster than that.
>>
>>62037714
>can play modern games at full hd on mid-ish settings at 60 fps
top kek, play GTA V at full HD medium and it will get sub 20fps.
>>
>>62037767
And it's not going to run at all on intel hd, what's your point?
>>
>>62037714
What hallway simulator is so horribly CPU-gimped that a Bristol ridge CPU can actually run it?
Sure, the integrated GPU is nice but if the CPU can't actually play games at 60fps what's the point?
>>
>>62037849
I play GTAV on my laptop easily at 30fps, and it's not even a good iteration of HD graphics it's a basic 620 or something

>>
>>62037849
Iris Pro 5200 mobile here, 30fps at 720p.
>>
>>62037954
Iris is faster than that. You know "normal" settings are actually the lowest settings right?

> fine
Video title is "almost fine", and it's actually not fine at all, sub 30fps and random lags.
>>
>>62038036
And here >>62037954 is 35 fps on full hd
>>
>>62037954
Problem with AMD is they fill just such a tiny niche of users.

Minecrafters are fine with Intel HD.
Anyone wanting better gets dedicated without having to pay extra for an APU they don't need.

About the only use I can think of for an APU is for an HTPC with a couple games/emulators thrown on there to entertain kids during parties.
>>
>>62038065
>Iris is faster than that.
So, what are 100 bucks cpus with iris?
>>
>>62038067
Yeah, but I'm on a 45W laptop CPU while that A12 is a 95W desktop part. Desktop i7's with Iris graphics will be a lot faster.
>>
>>62037572
bost broof
>>
>>62038069
>Anyone wanting better
Raven ridge will be much better anyway and more than enough for dota/lol/overwatch.
>>
So not only CPU improvements are dead even GPU stopped. Did they JUST decide to stop spending money on research?
>>
>100 bucks cpus
Extreme poorfagness, that's not even a Ryzen CPU, so not acceptable by today's standard. Even Ryzen 3, which is the lowest tier, costs more than $100 and doesn't even have a GPU. There's almost no market for those cheap APU's with shitty CPUs in, only extreme poorfags would buy them.

Integrated graphics only matters on mobile, and while Raven Ridge isn't out, Intel destroys every mobile AMD APU both on CPU and GPU performance.
>>
Why the fuck do Intel even bother with graphics

What do they gain? Is it just so they can keep more shitty laptops exclusive to them?

>>62038172
meant to: >>62038097
>>
>>62038176
>What do they gain?
uhhhh... basically 99% of the laptop market + 99% of the low end PC market altogether? Intel Graphics is the most popular GPU if you didn't realize that yet.
>>
>>62036145

>>
>>62038481
With the current craze of thin&light, the biggest factor in mobile computing nowadays is power draw
Kaby lake was a HUGE jump down in heat/wattage (nobody paid attention because muh desktops) and the latest igpus are slowly getting better and better
>>
>>62036082
>Raven Ridge

Man, the faggiest thing about "tech" is the product code names. What's wrong with numbers?
>>
>>62038481
Keep telling yourself that :^)
>>
>>62036833
>Haswell Gen7.5 doesn't even support D3D12 FL12_1

No one cares about pajeetx 12
>>
>>62036833
DX12 is DOA technology. At least DX11 added actual features back in the day like tessellation and such. DX12 was all about muh optimizations yet the performance difference is negligible.
>>
>>62036145
>Your latest action footage
Pornhub will compress my compilations anyway
>>
>>62038612
I get like 15 extra fps in Warhammer TW in dx12 mode.
>>
>>62038612
DX12 has an amazing CPU core advantage over DX11
DX11 starts plateauing performance after 4 cores, DX12 *can* scale up to 6 cores
>>
>>62038976
I will not argue with what you said anon, but practically how is the performance? All of it is stuck in theory.
>>
>>62036082

>literally a naming rebrand from Intel HD graphics to Intel UHD graphics to cash in on the 4K meme hype
>>
>>62040355
Just like putting "VR ready" on their CPU boxes
>>
>>62040355
Honestly, HD is a pretty old term. Intel HD graphics can easily handle 4K content, so it's a fair change.
>>
>>62039393
Still devs' fault
>>
Print this: Raven Ridge's Vega GPU wont beat the most powerful Iris Graphics.
