>>
>>62035553
You can use older iso still. Just install recent antivirus and update your windows after instalation.

But about thread, windows 7 is still viable main os. No fatal privacy issues, runs still recent games and software, no "antidarvin" shit. And it still feels like older windows.

Is it still getting security updates? If the answer to that question is "yes," then go ahead and install it.

No.
Windows was never viable as a main os.
Now its even worse because 7 is old shit.

it's OK now that they fixed the windows update taking 100% of CPU thread bug. but between circa 2014 and november 2016 (a long slice of which had the free upgrade to windows 10...) it was near-unuseable on older hardware.

An outright lie. It doesn't even claim to disable telemetry fully any more. The 'Security' level makes it clear that some data is still sent, and that's just from the overarching telemetry collection. Many other individual components transmit data in their own way, and no amount of turning off settings and tinkering with the GP editor will stop them. A firewall will catch some of them, but even then not all.

How much do you get paid per post, Pajeet? I've locked down Windows 10 as much as is possible and still see things randomly trying to call home via my firewall, let alone what's going on at a deeper level, hidden inside other processes. Windows 10 is spyware. Its entire business model is based around collecting data on its users. Anybody who thinks that it can be "turned off" is delusional, or getting paid to pretend to be.

If you just set the level to security and disable msrt and defender telemetry as mentioned in the article you've gotten rid of most of it.
Other connections you'll see aren't really telemetry.
For example there's a persistent connection used for push notifications akin to what google has on android. Any app can use that service to push notifications without maintaining a separate connection. There's a group policy that disables it.

Other than that I just disable web search, cortana and the lock screen spotlight bullshit. I leave updates, connectivity checks and such enabled.

Looks like you didn't check the article I linked to.
You can disable all the other connections and there's detailed instructions available.

The point is that just by toggling three settings you're free from actual telemetry. The rest are used for functionality that's not data gathering.

>what it takes to add a dropdown
So there's a .cpp file that defines the behaviour and a .xaml file that defines the look of the UI.
If you want to add a new dropdown of course you're going to just copy the piece of .xml that defines it elsewhere and simply change the entries.
Same for the callback, it's mostly the same for every dropdown just with different ids.
String resources are required for localization. The only issue is the sequential id requirement.

There is absolutely nothing wrong or unusual about this process.
If you've ever worked with Android you'll know that it works exactly the same except that it generates resource ids for you.
The green guy is just retarded.

Win7 fanboy here. After giving Win10 a try, I can tell you all of the shit it gets isn't just a meme. I've had games that worked just fine until an OS update came and broke them.
>>
>>62042036

Pro Moba players are full of themselves, they are elitists about a game that is shit, I don't mind the people that play it for fun.

Yes Quake players can be obnoxious sometimes, but the game is hardcore and most people doesn't know how to actually play it properly, it requires strategy, reflexes and good motor skills to master it like few games do.

>Why did you switch to VSRGs then?

I play some now and then (not osu in particular), but the variety in the gameplay is very limited, I could not play one for more than a few hours without going bored out of my mind or actually start getting mad because the "difficulty" reached autistic levels, which is basically the same patterns but faster.

I almost go insane with Super Hexagon (not a scroller, but the premise is similar)
>>
>>62042200
Quake "strategy" is just knowing when pickups respawn. Reflexes and good motor skills are an actual element in the game though.
You're probably just as shit at mobas as "most people" are at Quake. You didn't reach (or tried to) the point where strategy and reflexes start to matter. Good motor skills are arguably not as necessary in that genre but it definitely helps you gather information faster.

We had these same threads with the same responses by assblasted XP fags a few years ago as XP reached EOL. "hurr 7 is shit im using XP forever" "if i have to stop using XP ill just use linux instead" "XP works fine in 2013 bro"

Then they all disappeared overnight and now they're rabid 7 users, and the same will happen with 10 eventually. Windows users have to be dragged kicking and screaming into a new version but eventually they'll come to like it (and then they'll refuse to upgrade again saying the current version is the best ever and nothing will surpass it). Hell, it's not uncommon for people to say that Vista wasn't even that bad now.

2 years after 7's release XP still had like 60% of the market, shifts in market share among Windows versions always move at glacial speeds because most Windows machines are things like company computers and school computers that are lucky to get replaced/upgraded once every ~10 years. You'll probably see a huge dropoff in 7's market share as it gets closer to end of support as happened with XP.

hahahahahahahaahahaha 50%?? where? on steam? probably not even among their super popular titles

and valve tried hard to push linux, go look at their linux adoptions, they are probably lower than VR at this point, VR btw is one of those things that had windows "exclusivity" for a very long time because everyone use and develop for windows as their main platform so they kept postponing it, if i had swap my OS like this, just because fuck MS? id be constantly missing on a whole ton of stuff, it isnt worth it at all, ms has this monopoly for like what? more than 2 decades or something? u truly need some serious miracle to change this

Well, pretty much all my coworkers buy shitty Walmart budget laptops with Windows 10, intel i3s, and 2-4gb of ram. Imagine my shock when those shitty laptops are only barely able to handle Windows 10 out of the box. A year later, they typically either have to restore the system (if they know how), get a new laptop (more likely), or ask me what they can do, at which point, I install Linux Mint, get them set up with basic shit, and copy a tutorial/guide I made to help them get started.

Turns out that they wind up preferring Mint to Windows 10, and when they go to upgrade again, I show them this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCj7KKqyOSo

And a link to prices on ebay with an i5, 8GB of ram, and an SSD for less than what they would pay for their "budget" laptops.

Once they jump ship, they don't have much interest in going back.

Drivers still suck balls.
Literally no advanced functions available on linux with graphic cards and sound cards. Windows is obligatory if you want to do dope shit with your hardware.
Who really care about windows efficiency when every single benchmark is higher on windows than on linux.
Imagine if windows was optimized for performance. Your crappy OS would be dead and burried.

Compared to 7 or XP or even ME, it feels really mangled, like different teams did different shit then put it all together and shipped it untested, it's all over the place about how it looks, what it wants to do vs what you want to do, and where things that should be actually are, not to mention the horrible mess that is the "apps" or telemetry, that pic really sums it up, the have too much money and believe they have a monopoly on the OS market, so they'll just keep "innovating", google is drifting the same way with android too, albeit being much much smarter about it.

There is absolutely no reason to use 10 over 7 other than DX12 and that's a meme in and of it self.

steam boxes were handled spectacularly bad by both valve and the third party manufacturers trying by to offer something like a htpc/console setup for the price of a decently specced low/mid end pc - plenty of people have tried, and failed, to push the pc as a console/couch gaming setup on windows as well

aside from that steam and gaming in general on linux is better than ever with all valve games working brilliantly and plenty of third party developers taking some serious time and effort to port and optimise games for steam, and with amd finally getting their shit together with amdgpu and vulkan being less niche it's only up from here
