Part of their code is closed source and proprietary. This doesn't mean that they are mining your data, but it leaves the possibility open, unlike shit like Qwant.

I still use DDG because I like the formatting better, and am happy with the results, but that doesn't mean that there aren't privacy issues.

That's fine. I wasn't telling you what service to use. That said, the reasoning behind a lot of the shit recommended in privacytools.io is sound. DDG used to make the search engine list, but other engines have gone even further than DDG, and this is why it was dropped.

Even if ddg would gather data it doesn't matter as much as Google does. There is no, afaik, ddg account to speak of so they have no name to corroborate with that data. Also they don't have email, messages, photos and everything you do on an Android phone.

i used some plugins to monitor cookies and requests, and duckduckgo sent shit to other sites that were not suposed to. i saw that by trial and error ... it is more privat than google, but not enough...

The founder of ddg earlier owned a data company. It thus raises a red flag that the company can sell our data for money.
