Well think of it like this, when you visit a certain site often google will start recommending it to you as a top hit, and global web results act as an extended aggregate of that, often focusing on the part of a site that the majority of visitors see when they go there. People who go to 4chan are usually regulars, so they never actually just go to 4chan.org, when they can just type ~/g to get to where they need to immediately. I haven't seen the front page in months and when I do it's usually by accident.
