What is the benefit of Intel optane over a cheap ssd?
>>61982804
It's not a replacement for a ssd.
Nothing. Optane is about as meme as dvd rewinders.
>>61982804
Intel gets more money
>>61982804
Just use a RAMdisk - much faster and more reliable.
>>61982804
Only in server to Databases
>>61982804
Optane is a meme. NVMe is so much better
>>61983594
NVMe is a protocol, optane works on NVMe
>>61982804
optace is more like fag-ram for your more used stuff. It takes time to learn what you do and justifies to itself why it should do it to or even help.
basically optane is the woman of the ssd world.

until solar rays flip bits in your ram and cause data corruption.
Never store anything you give a fuck about in a ram disk.
With that being said, Ive ran vms in a ramdisk. I was thoroughly disappointed with my results.
Optane is useless. It's supposed to be for low end office PCs, but the only boards that support it are higher end.

It's a meme.

If you're that worried about googled memed solar rays flipping your bits then just use ecc ram.
>With that being said, Ive ran vms in a ramdisk. I was thoroughly disappointed with my results.
Ramdiscs would only improve loading times, and latency when compared to swapping from hdd/ssd. I'm not sure what kind of miracle you expected, but if it was more than improved loading/latency from hard drive than you where expecting too much.

idk, I thought my vm was going to act like it was on some kind of super ssd with a >1 second boot time and everything just worked instantly.
I would be using ecc but I didnt plan that far ahead and rebuilding fucking everything just for ramdisks isnt really practical in my situation.
can optane be used as an actual ssd or is it limited to that "lol ssd as a cache for your hdd" shit we already had in 2011

>vms in a ramdisk
Try low latency memory
