But if you have an idea about what part of the password might be, say you know it might contain the word "John" or "Dingus" or any other word or number you may use in your passwords, you can generate permutations based around those and try to crack it with a dictionary attack based of that list. Basically reduce the complexity of the brute force by remembering parts of it. So it might be "Dingus1988" but you only remember that it might be something with dingus, so you generate permutations around dingus and one of them will be Dingus1988. If it's info you'll want in the future, it might be possible to crack it then or a vulnerability might be discovered.
