Whatever you may save will be massively offset by the mobo cost. Just fund a nice used 4790 or whatever.

Xeons are cheap and good multithread, most of the time.
Remember that the E3 you want is locked and cannot be overclocked but does come with ECC functionality, so if you're hosting sensitive data then it might be a good choice.
I picked one up for 25 dollars from some dude on Craigslist. The mobos are really fucking rare and you may even need to preform a psu mod. I think its still worth the money if you are willing to bother with tracking down all the parts.
