Should I bother with coffee lake if I have 2500k stock speed?

Or should I wait until 10nm icelake hits in 2019?

I've been running the 2500k for 6 or 7 years now and I feel like I should upgrade soon. Mainly would be using it for vidya at 4k, watching stuff in 4k, and maybe some 3D modeling/animating/music composing.

Lacking CPU power is pretty easily noticeable.
You upgrade when your current CPU isn't enough anymore. Upgrading in any other scenario (other than your CPU breaking maybe) would be stupid and a waste of money.

Coffeelake is gonna sell like bread.

Coffee Lake is going to be the last fast Intel CPU until 2019, and it's probably going to be way too hot. There's no desktop Cannonlake to low yields, and according to Intel Cannonlake and Icelake are going to be much slower than Coffee Lake/14nm++. Togerlake or 10nm+ should catch up to Coffee lake in single thread performance, and the Intel's already counting on an unamed 10nm++ refresh. 7nm will likely be rolled out for mobile, not desktop, in early 2020 assuming no delays. 7nm desktop won't be out until late 2020, by then Ryzen 2 will have been out for potentially two fucking years assuming GloFo doesn't run into issues.

It's not even a new socket, it's stil LGA 1151. Z370 is incompatible with Z170 and Z270 just because "fuck you." It's literally a one year platform as well, Coffee Lake can't upgrade to Icelake because Icelake is a new socket. It's gone from a new mobo every two gens to a new mobo every gen.
