If you want help:
>Assemble parts list

>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Vega GONE.

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

look at the price

also memeripper mobos are over 300 dollars for the cheapest

more than 100 over 299x

so for 800 dollars you have a faster computer + the 1080ti which is also still the fastest GPU well over both VEGAs

vs 1300 right off the top for just the CPU and Mobo memeripper (all other ryzens are even slower than just this CPU)

I have a 1000W semi-fanless PSU powering my 500W system. It is fanless most of the time, but sometimes under heavy load it turns the fan on. It's currently in my system upside down, with the fan pointed downwards breathing through the bottom of my case.

If I flip it up to face upwards, will it run cooler and turn the fan on less often? I get this kind of sounds like a 'go do it and find out xdddd' thing, but I have my cable management set up to where if I turn it around I'd need to undo a bunch of my cable management, and I can't be bothered. I'm also a bit concerned about it breathing hot air onto my GPU.

>>
>>61959061
Just search YouTube for people with similar configurations to what you want I.e. 2600k + 1080 ti.

I'd only get the 1080 ti if I knew I'd be upgrading my cpu within the next year or so but I'd get something like a 1070 or at max a 1080 if I know I'd be keeping my processor for like 3 more years because your chances of being bottlenecked is high with that old i7 paired with the 1080 ti so you're essentially paying for performance you won't even be able to take full advantage of and by the time you upgrade that cpu in 3 years the next set of gpu would have been released with 1080 ti performance at half the price.

Recheck your connections. Again make sure the switch on the back of the PSU is on. And if still nothing, start with the PSU first. It is probably the PSU.

$2000 might seem like a lot but it's mostly just the cost of drives. I plan to initially start with 50-60ish TB to give you an idea. As for a server, there are just no good high capacity options out there that are priced reasonably. Bandwidth isn't an issue for me either.

Switch AIO to air cooler.
Switch to a cheaper case.
Around 650w PSU is enough and you can safely drop down to gold rating and get Seasonic. They're the top dogs in this fight.
Pirate Windows.
Three fans are enough to cool everything and at least two should be coming with a case.

Fuck, I didn't actually notice they weren't priced. I don't have them right now and I just copied the parts from another build.

I just live in a hot area and my computer room has pretty horrible air flow. I don't want this computer to get absolutely baked.

I'm going to shove a GTX 780 in this thing. I was playing it safe with all the fans and the water cooling.

Any recommendations on that front?

AMD Ryzen 7 1700

>I live in a hot area

AIO isn't gonna be a magic bullet that reduced your temps by half. You're still blowing the same air into the radiator or a heatsink. At first it's gonna seem like it is but that's just how water works, it takes about ten times the energy to heat water than copper but that works in reverse too, it takes far longer for it to cool down.

Yesterday I upgraded my pc, I doubled my ram to 16gb, added in a second ssd and a hdd. It's primarily an entertainment machine, ie gaming and movies and it worked fine all day yesterday, watched some netflicks and played with my rift for a few hours. However I've come to turn it on today and the hdd and power indicators are coming on and the fans are spinning up, however no power is getting g to my kb or mouse and the monitor is giving me a no signal message. I cleared my cmos and rebooted and I managed to get as far as the machine telling me that defaults had been loaded but on clicking continue the mouse and kb power down and the screen returns to no signal mode. Not sure if this is quite the right thread but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next, can anybody offer advice?

Yes a rebrand of 480 which is a rebrand of 390x which is a rebrand of 390 which is a rebrand of 290x which is a rebrand of 290. Regardless of the rebranding, it has actual improves. People say Pascel is a rebrand of maxwell all the time but the Pascal cards are so much better than maxwell. You can't expect them to come up with new architectures every gen.
>>

Calling a 390x a rebrand of a 390 is like calling an 1080 a rebrand of a 1070. It's just a slightly higher clocked version of the same card but it's released as such, nobody claimed the x version of these cards where anything other than just the top end of that release.
>>
>>61960722
Disconnect everything new you plugged in. Shouldn't be too hard. Open the case, unplug the sata and power cable from the SSD/HDD and RAM. Then boot and see if it works.

If it works, then add one item by item till it breaks.
If it doesn't, that means you could have broken your setup somehow while installing your new parts.

As long as the electricity sockets are grounded properly it doesn't matter. If you have a fiber network in your area then you'll need to be connected to it via fiber, but standard copper cables are good enough for ADSL or similar technologies.

Holy fuck. Is this AMD fanboys being fucking retarded? Or is this miners being fucking retarded? No way a 690 dollar card that runs that hot is worth buying for mining right?

Regardless, RIP to anyone who thinks he can find a Vega at a fair price. If you want to buy a GPU, buy a 1080 NOW. Before everyone who was waiting goes and buys one and its prices goes up or runs out of stock.

Not really. If you have a B350 or X370 motherboard, you can just overclock the 1600 to 3.8 Ghz on the stock cooler and get better performance than the 1600X.

If you don't want to fuck around with overclocking, and don't mind buying an aftermarket cooler since it doesn't come with one, the 1600X is a better buy.

All depends on if you want to overclock.
