I personally have a 34 inch 1080p ultrawide freesync enabled, I don't really care about PPI since I came from dual 900p 20 inch monitors. If you're the type that cares about pixel density and have the power to drive a 4k screen without forcing yourself to downscale to 1440p or even 1080p (GTX 1080ti) get the 4k. Else for especially for movies and even games. The immersion is unmatchable by a 16:9 4k display. One con i find with ultrawide is game support. Starcraft 2, Dark Souls do not support 21:9 ratio at all, and need so work arounds/patches to work. Pic related is movies almost perfectly fit ultrawide monitor without the top and bottom black bars

I'm really not sure, it would save a LOT of money for me though. My initial thought was to get a 4K display + GTX1080, but an ultra-wide 1080p display + GTX1070 seems way more feasible for the long term. The 1080 is probably not gonna pull 4K/60 next year anymore. I would definitely get the Scarlett 2i2. The Audioengine d1 is unbalanced and from what I can tell only has RCA outputs so you'd need to adapt that to TRS or XLR to work with your studio monitors. Scarlett 2i2's have both xlr and TRS already.
I use the Fiio E10k because the 2i2 is a really shit amplifier for headphones. I like my music loud and the 2i2 just doesn't offer that when using headphones.

Well the DAC itself on the 2i2 is probably just as good as the e10k but the actual output is extremely weak and high impedance.
If I were you I'd get a Mackie Onyx Blackjack. They're cheaper than 2i2's and offer TRS support for your monitors and a decent DAC with great headphone output. Pretty much a 2i2 and e10k combined.

It's actually not a Mac, I just modified a PowerMac G5 case to accept ATX components and wired up the front USB's and Power button / power LED then I turned my PC into a hackintosh. I run the Node 304 for my ZFS NAS. Great little case.

I got that cooler master case with someone's build (which I sold everything except the ram & processor from). It's really low quality compared to some of the other stuff on the market. But I hear you on price. Mini cases are expensive. NCase M1 is ideal; but $185 for some sheet metal...

I did a Ryzen 7 1700/GTX 970 build for my girlfriend with a Node 202 that turned out absolutely fucking beautiful though.
