When will GPU prices drop?
>>
>>61943011
When buying new GPUs for mining is no longer financially feasible.
>>
>>61943024
Damn, miners are reviving AMD
>>
>>61943011
I almost did it today /g/, I almost clicked buy on a 200% markup GPU. I just want my new build... so tired of waiting.
>>
>>61943031
Miners are also screwing all the rest of us.
>>
>>61943011
No time soon but you can just watch porn on an ARM with embedded GPU until then. There is going to be a price drop before you have finished watching it all.
>>
>>61943011
Because the IT girls mine too.
>>
>>61943047
What are you buying, might be able to hook you up.
>>
>>61943050
It's only 200 bucks

Either bite the bullet and grab a 1060 or wait untill Vega distracts coinfags.
I didn't pick the latter and now I'm stuck with Nvidias trash software

God damn, this mining craze makes me glad I got my R9 Fury for $240 last Black Friday.

>USD$200 is a trivial amount
There are a very very small number of countries where this is true. For the 98% of humanity, $200 is a lot.

>>61943165
Wait for raven ridge
>>
Miners have as much of a right to GPUs as you dumb gaymers. At least they are using their GPUs for something productive instead of meaningless entertainment.
>>
Why doesn't AMD simply reduce the price a bit now they have more market?
>>61943126
>>61943165
Vega is coming with a pretty good deal, isn't it? Like with a monitor and other stuff
>>
>>61943011
I bought my rx580 before the miners bought all the stocks here in Australia. I was initially annoyed that I bought it when I did as a few days later the price dropped $10, a week or so after that they were all sold out and prices where up more than 50%.

All in all I did good, just as well because I would have been stuck on integrated graphics otherwise.
>>
>>61943236
I ordered a 470 on PLE, they gave me a 570 for some reason lmao
Also, this was before Eth went viral

I'm guessing the factories are filling custom orders direct from miners instead of stores. There's also a supply shortage on memory as a factory burned down in China and is being rebuilt bigger and newer. All in all if you need a GPU like me, we're fucked til November at the earliest. Strap in, mr. Bones wild ride never ends.
>>
>>61943331
that animu girl has spaghetti in her pocket and it has fallen out
>>
In my opinion it won't happen. AMD and Nvidia could increase the production capacities for miners but that would only help to inflate the cryptocoin market to a point where it definitely crashes. Then they sit on their new multi billion dollar production lines that produce graphics cards nobody wants to buy anymore.
>>
>>61943210
>GPUs are only used for games and mining
What are you even doing on a technology board?
>>
>>61943234
>people are throwing money at you for your products
>crank the prices up a little
>demand is still there
>"I know, this calls for lower prices!"
>>
>>61943234
>>61943429
AMD/NVIDIA did not increase prices of any of their gpus. their profit margin is still the same. It's the retailers who are making all the profit with the inflated price.
>>
>>61943503
So why won't they fix a maximum retail price?
>>
>>61943124
Yeah, don't have that specific model. I had a few MSI 580 8GB's in stock when I left the shop yesterday. They were $325.

I get that it's above MSRP, but vendors mark up to, it's not just the retailers.
>>
>>61943530
how are they supposed to do that? they sell the gpus to vendors. then vendors make the graphics cards and sell them too retailers.
>>
>>61943210
>making meme currency is something productive
>>

>98% of humanity,

>>
>>61943083
What about if you want to use 99% of your time awake to study AI, neural networks and worthwhile fun educational activities...

And you need GPU power... you see we have to force it sooner than later.

Why don't we get opensource hardware scientific projects, where people build and cheap for that purpose alone.
>>
>>61943011
It wouldn't even be so bad but AMD literally has no offerings in a normalfag range that isn't comically bad and I don't want to buy into Nvidia
>>
It's not because of miners RETARDS. It's because of AI research and meme AI startups.
>>
>>61943671
t. miner
>>
>>61943671
>>61943606
They use nvidia cards :)
>>
>>61943693
Tbqh Nvidia is the only mainstream company that bothered to release such a farm, but it costed like 100k - 50k usd... pretty high for a dude or a group of dudes simply interested to learn.

Alternative is to buy many cheap 980 ti's and pair them, but I don't know what to look into to see if the card is at least in decent health shape because it will of course be used until the last drop of life juice pours out of it.
>>
>>61943024
>When buying new GPUs for mining is no longer financially feasible.

Buying Nvidia cards was never financially feasible for mining, but you don't see the 1060/70/80 dropping in prices.
>>
>>61943011
Bought a 1050ti at nearly MSRP. I am set for the next 5 to 6 years.
>>
>>61943693
^this and its because Radeon's software stack is shit in comparison. They have an opportunity to capture this market via solid hardware and they blow it by not having drivers ready or features enabled. Yet, they write custom roms and custom extended ISAs for miners. Shows the kind of clowns at Radeon.

That being said, GPu prices aren't going to drop until mining currencies go to zero which it just might in the timeline ahead. Pay the premium, get what you need, and remember who caused it.
>>
>>61943011
when memecoins crash and memecoin investors jump off bridges
>>
>bought a hd7770 for $30
should i start mining?
>>
>>61943855
Just took my own advice and got tired of the wait for vega meme after I read how many compute stacks are incompatible with OpenCL and AMDs lackluster software stack. Bought a 1070 for $100 over what it should cost and called it a day.
>>
September.
>>
>>61943024
Soooo... never? As long as they are available, a profit can be made. How do we combat this?
>>
>>61943733
Well, their demand is also higher because AMD cards are too expensive for gamers.
>>
If, and only if, mining demand stabilizes for a while. Manufacturers aren't going to increase production to meet a demand that might disappear at any time.
>>
They won't, in fact we can expect a 30-50% price increase due to memory shortages due to the memory companies producing less memory for GPUs and more memory for phones.

https://www.techpowerup.com/236201/graphics-memory-prices-surge-30-in-august-could-affect-graphics-card-prices
>>
>>61943031
Stop reading shitty clickbait 'stock news'.

AMD's share price was higher before this mining bubble even started, Ryzen has been selling incredibly well. But that doesn't make a good article, so they say AMD is doing well because of cryptos.
>>
>>61943814
Same
Great GPU. Cool and silent as fuck.
>>
AMD are in a situation where they are afraid to increase production because miners are fickle, and etherium might bottom out or some tiny ARM based mining box could come along and they'll be left with a ton of left over inventory.

From an investor perspective they are selling all their inventory so thats a good thing, but their stock price would probably tank if they have a shitload of "unsellable" product.
>>
>>61945654
God, I hope they overproduce. Same with Nvidia. That'd cut GPU prices by about 50% I wager.
>>
>>61945545
MINING WAR NOW!!! KILL THEM ALL!!!!
>>
>>61945734
this. we liberate the GPU. they are essentially concentration camps where they work at full capacity day and night under bad conditions
>>
>>61943011
when will SSDs and RAM get cheaper?
>>

Never, the 3 largest memory manufactures are literally colluding and price fixing.

Unless they get busted for it, i doubt it'll ever happen.

Basically same. It was powering a GTX580 before, so it even has become quieter thanks to it not having to push 20 amps.

Btw, if you have the skill and tools, clean the dust out of the psu, it made a huge difference for me.

You weak willed pussies are the reason why this market continues to practically be holding the cards ransom and people have to willingly cuck themselves into giving thieves a 100% mark up. If you bought a gpu in the past 5 months. Just know you are part of the problem. And when the Mining wars begin... you'll be the first to go

Are you guys being serious? any gaming regrets? My gpu broke months ago and I wanna buy an rx580 but the mining craze is killing me. I just wanna play the latest titles without having to remove shadows and grass and all the stupid shit that adds to the games visuals. like medium is fine
>>
>>61946758
This is my life anon... I anticipate the coming revolution every waking hour... ploting... scheming.. Their time will come
>>
>>61945775
[citation needed]
Most big companies agree not to price gouge eachother into oblivion for a healthy competitive market. If you want cheaper shit i'm sure there is an obscure chinese manufacturer producing quility cards for super low prices
>>
>>61946844
I use mine as an egpu and it works for me
>>
>>61946844
It'll do for medium at 1080p or lower.
>>
>>61947241
How do I do that? I have a T420 that I'd love to add a graphics card to so I can finally play PC games, is an egpu relatively simple to set up? What peripherals do I need?
>>61943855
>>
>>61947524
You'd need the expresscard adapter from bangood
A psu, either a Dell da-2 if you can't buy one from ebay a standard atx psu will do

Additionally
A screen if you want full performance but if you just games and can handle a bit of delay it's usable without another screen
Keyboard mouse if you're using a screen and I'd recommend a headset or Webcam if you play with friends

Heres a few hints:
Don't do dsdt override
You need to turn your system off fully then connect the card without the display plugged to boot (your laptop will turn itself off abruptly then turn itself back on)
After boot it's fair game
You can hotplug all you want until you boot
If you accidentally unplug your gpu (expresscard has no locking mech) you can just unplug the display and replug no problem
If you have problems running at expresscard 2.0 it's either your cable or psu

And yeah that's pretty much it
>>
>>61948017
Nice, thanks anon. I'll probably go for the display, mouse and keyboard, then if I do decide to build a new computer I will have those already covered.

The thing is I just spent $300 on an SSD and 16GB of RAM for my laptop a couple months ago so this way I don't have to rebuy that shit again for a separate computer.
>>
>>61948321
I still have to buy a SSD (a proper not a shitty msata one)
I was going buy a SSD first but then I found a gdc beast adapter locally so I had to get the gpu first
>>
>>61945934
why would you buy a bad psu
