What went wrong?
fuck off retard
serial got quicker.

No
too many holes for my trypophobia
Normies who don't use computers for any reason other than communicate with other normies

So it's the same thing as the "printer" port Op posted

Why the fuck would you need a separate port for every fucking type of peripheral. It's all the same ones and zeros
>>61937563
Way too slow to still be justifiable.

When using off-the-shelf IC to build digital systems, you can't always avoid race conditions during the design stage so sometimes muxing and demuxing is a better design choice because it ensures data integrity without taking a long time to troubleshoot during the design process to track down exactly where the races were occuring and also stays fast because you don't need to block. Duh.

People cared more about throughput than latency

Lack of DMA (pre ECP) and FIFO buffers meant that communication through the parallel port required a shit ton of CPU involvement with precise timing, which sucked hard for any multitasking OS.
Also the port itself, cables and connectors were unwieldy.

That's why we had Serial and Parallel ports, it was all the same fucking ones and zeros, one just transferred them in parallel the other in serial, depending on the application, you could pick what port suited better for a particular device.
All most all peripherals used one or the another.
