Why does the tech community seem to have inexplicable infatuation with shitty products from underdog companies that are not worth your money at all?
>f-fu- fuck company x th-this is actually rlly good if you're on a budget
Yeah, a 100 $ budget maybe.
Give one example?

AMD FX 8350
>>61934912
8350 was a turd, but cheaper than Intel offerings at the time. The tech community isn't obsessed with getting the worse product, we're obsessed with getting best bang for our buck and obsessed with market competition, a stagnant market without competitors is a complacent market.

official /g/pu reccomendation bread
>100 dolla or less
GTX 1050
>100-150
RX 570
>150-250
RX 580
>250+
GTX 1070
>but muh 4k
1070 is enough for that. Only idiots that enjoy wasting money go higher than GTX 1070.
>>61934912
8350 was better at some productivity shit than the 3770k it was competing against at the time
like software x264
And you get 8 real cores, although with shared FPUs. Not bad if you wanted it to run some server shit or what else.
Still, steamroller arch was everything AMD has been able to fix in bulldozer. Nevertheless, inferior product to whatever Intel was offering at the time.
t. almost bought 8320 but got 3770k instead

>GTX 1070
Try $400. Where have you been? 580s go for 350 minimum now
>>61934941
The only bang you're getting is the bang in your asshole from AMD corporate headquarters you retarded shill.

No

>>61934973
A 1070 is only """""enough""""" for 4K if you're willing to play on medium settings or at 30fps.
>>61934973
MSRP for the 1070 is $349. Market price has been $400 for some time. Miners are ensuring its $429/$459/$499. Same goes for every card you listed. You're literally off by $100 across the board. Not sure if serious.

I dont think you can speak for the whole tech community. Some are infatuated. Some just get excited about cutting edge tech. Some support Radeon because they foster openness and aren't as shady as Nvidia. Video cards have gone beyond video and now can efficiently compute parallel work loads. Video cards are legitamtely used beyond gaming for science, Artificial intelligence, genetics research etc. For an individual, usually 1 video card suffices for vidya or maybe 2. For research and computation sometimes maybe 1,2,3,4... Bigger corporations use more but it serves to further advance society.
Then came along a bunch of faggots driven by pure greed in service to a ponzi scheme buying not 1 or 2 but 8,16,24,36,48,64 cards in order to weaponize their ponzi scheme against deflationary pressures to zero where it belongs. The idiocy began there not with those genuinely excited about a compelling product that brings them happiness playing video or allows humanity to advance via research.
Video cards are inflated by $100-$300 dollars because of these faggots. Your observation about value/budget falls apart when you have such weaponized forces acting against a fair market. Even if video cards doubled in price, these faggots would just inflate the transaction proceeds to keep the idiocy going. So, there you have it. There is the cancer killing any sensical market for video cards.

my fucking RX480 can do that
>>61937716
There's a much smaller difference in framerates at 4K, you tech-illiterate cretin. A 1070 doesn't get anywhere NEAR 60fps on higher settings, so your only options are playing with a shitty framerate bouncing around between 30-40fps, locking at 30fps or playing on medium. Even in super fucking well-optimised stuff like Doom.
>>61935559
>Gtx 760
Mah nigga. I'm upgrading to a 1080 though. Along with 4K display.
>>61937781
It runs a fuckload better on vulkan desu. You're still right though, you shouldn't get a 1070 for 4K.
there is no such thing as a bad chip. only bad prices.
to answer your question, it's mostly a knee jerk reaction to sectarian Intel/Nvidia fanboys.
>>61935374
Im confused, who's buying up all the GPUs?
>>61938362
Miners brainlet
>>61938380
that's a more or less recent phenomenon, GPUs have been expensive forever
