My AMD Radeon HD 7950 just died after 5 years of use, what is something of equal (or a bit better) performance today?
>>
>>61931593
> HD 7950
RX 470/570? Also probably 1060 6GB.
>>
>>61931616
1060 is too expensive for its performance.
470/80 are not available.
So i'd say a 570/80 if in stock. If not in stock indeed a 1060 3gb.
For gaming beyond 1080p/60fps, 1060 6gb
>>
>>61931634
> If not in stock indeed a 1060 3gb.
I've seen posts not recommending it, because 1050Ti can do better.
>>
>>61931593
you're stuck with 1050ti within the reasonable price range unfortunately because what >>61931634 said.
>>
>>61931668

ok, say I'm willing to spend $150 over, what are my options then?
>>
>>61931691
$150 over what?
>>
>>61931709

whatever the equivalent would be to the 7950 (looks like it's the 1050Ti)
>>
>>61931730
I see on Newegg that 1050Ti prices are somewhere inbetween 150 and 180; raising the filter to $320 gives me a few 1060 6GB and an RX 560(!). See the benchmarks to decide if $150 worth the difference.
>>
>>61931634
>RX470/480
I've seen a few 4GB's pop back in stock.
>>
>>61931836
Then 480 all the way. It is a nice card for 1080p on ultra.

>>61931644
There is no chance a 1050ti can out perform a 1060. It has limited Power draw due its connection is onl a the pcie slot. By definition it cant be better.

Inb4 some snowflake case where 3,0001 gb vram is neccessary and the 1060 bottlenecks.
>>
>>61931593
Highly recommend RX 470/480/570/580 if and only if you manage to find them at MSRP (around 200$) or less. A 4GB version will be more than enough for 1080p and at higher res you might as well get a better card. 6GB GTX1060 is very comparable performance wise but if you cant find it at MSRP either your best option would be the 1050Ti 4GB (3GB 1060 is not advisable since the VRAM will bottleneck VERY soon)
>>
I also would recommend a RX 570 or even a 560, depending on what Games at what resolution you play.
>>
>>61931593
get used 280x

The HD 7970 is pretty much even with the 1050ti. I would grab a GTX 1060 or preferably a RX 4/580 if by some miracle they are in stock for a reasonable price. Check local retail stores if you have any.

>Highly recommend RX 470/480/570/580

I bought a RX 480 the week it came out

GTA V benchmark stuttered, Wolfenstein had weird screen tearing

I returned it, got a 1070, and everything was flawless
>>
>>61934282
AMD cards never work well day 1, but those cards are perfectly fine now.
>>
>>61932106
The 1060 3Gb model is like, 100 more dollars at least than a 1050 Ti. It's not worth it for the price.

You're better off getting a 1050 Ti and overclocking it if you want the most bang for your buck.
>>
>>61935239
Nvidia in general isnt worth its price as I said.
>>
>>61935295
In general you'd be correct, but miners have bumped the price of the 480 to ridiculous limits. And at its miner price, it's definitely not worth it.

>The HD 7970 is pretty much even with the 1050ti.
>A card from January of 2012 is equal to a card from October of 2016

This is fucking sweet. Why do people hate AMD again? Are Nvidia shills everywhere or something?
>>
>>61936274
>gpu from 2012 with an msrp of $550 is equal to $110 gpu from 2016
>what is innovation/architectural improvements/process shrinks/new technologies

do you understand how retarded you sound? a 290x which was like $600 ($900 at one point) is now slower than a $200 gtx 1060. why do people hate nvidia again? are amd shills everywhere or something?
>>
>>61936368
>what is innovation/architectural improvements/process shrinks/new technologies
What are those again? And do you see anyone still using an Nshitia card from 2012? Cause there are still many people using 7950's and 7970's from that time which is fucking impressive.

Meanwhile, Nshitia cards get worse with every new driver release.
>>
>>61936413
> Meanwhile, Nshitia cards get worse with every new driver release.
Well, I have a Radeon HD 5xxxx card and I can say that the driver problem was actual until the last releases for this series (which was in 2015 or something, I think). The driver still could fall sometimes, but at least it's not as bad as it was in the beginning, no bluescreen,no need to restart system, etc.
>>
>>61936413
going by the biggest pc gaming store on the pc platform being steam, there are more people still using gtx 650's than there are people using amd's best selling gpu of all time being the rx 480/580 series. there are even more people using 650s than the whole 7900 series. so yeah, i still see people using nvidia gpu from 2012.

mad?
>>
How did it 'die'? I have four Barts chips (HD6870) still running fine (they all have Accelerando S1+2xNF-P12@constant 1100RPM and the die and VRAM temps never exceed 60C), and two HD7950's, with the same cooling solution (only the NF-P12 are running@1300RPM).
>>
Buy used GTX980, if you don't mind binary drivers on lonix.

>>61931593
RIP anons card, you won't get anything much faster sadly due to faggot miners.
>>
>>61935295
you might be able to find an r9-280x or something for a reasonable price if you look in the right places.

I don't have a cooling system and I live in Australia where it's fucking hot :^) plus I let it get as dusty as a nun's cunt.

Thanks everyone for the tips - I'm leaning towards the 1060 6GB at this stage.
